Dave explains that he began the scratchbuilt model while a college student. Over the years he painted, then weathered the gondola. Recently he added an appropriate MOW load of cable. Model of the First Quarter 2012 Troy, MI: The challenge for Division 8 s Models of the Quarters will be a variety of rolling stock and structures in 2012. D e c e mb e r 1 5, 2 0 1 1 Rules: 1. Trestle model a. Can be built in any scale b. Can be built using any materials c. Must represent a real prototype (made from steel, iron, or wood) 2. Trestle model may be: a. Scratchbuilt or b. Built from a craftsman kit or c. Kitbashed The subject for the first quarter s model is Build a Railroad Trestle. 3. Minimum details required: a. Model must be painted b. Contain track appropriate to the scale modeled c. Be operational, i.e. suitable for installation on a layout and subsequent use by trains. Rick Ware displayed a rail and tie car in G scale. Rick scratchbuilt the tie box which rides atop the flat car. Phil Doolittle offered a project-in-progress, a deck girder bridge for his Wheatland Jct. Free-Mo module. M-of-Q contest entry. Ken Scherer brought in photos of the Grand Trunk Western Phil also brought in a great photo that his wife Althea took of a Tweetsie 4-6-0 and 2-8-2 double-headed on a trestle. Althea took the photo while they were attending the Narrow Gauge Convention. Fred Cosgrove offered a layout plan with photos of his On30 railroad. A combination of 3 lines make up the railroad including a lumber line, harbor line and the mainline. The engines range from 0-4-0 to 2-8-2 Mudhen. Gene Kome offered photos he took a while back in southeast Michigan of the Grand Trunk Western and Chessie. Terry Bossick read part of a story from the Hot Box 1988 summer issue.
