Trans Sierra Nevada MTBike DESCRIPTION Mountain bike on the highest road of Europe, at an altitude of 3400m. A mountain route, one of the most spectacular mountain biking adventures, right at your fingertips, very close to Portugal. 5 days cycling around the highest mountain range of the Iberian Peninsula at an average altitude of 2000m. On the 5th day the tour will reach its peak with the conquest of Veleta Peak (3400m) after an ascent of about 35km and 2000m, along the highest cycling path in Europe. ITINERARY DAY 1 ARRIVAL in MÁLAGA Welcome to Málaga! Transfer (30min) from the Airport to the hotel. ACCOMMODATION Hotel Don Curro DAY 2 MÁLAGA to GÜÉJAR SIERRA Transfer from Málaga to Güéjar Sierra. Here we will prepare the bicycles, do a briefing and get ready for the upcoming days of cycling. ACCOMMODATION Hotel El Guerra
DAY 3 GÜÉJAR SIERRA to GUADIX Departing from Güéjar Sierra, located close to Granada, the adventure begins with a long climb up to 1800 meters of altitude. We then enter an isolated area of the mountain range and cross the gentle northern slopes of Sierra Nevada, passing by forests and canyons along landscapes similar to North Africa. On this day we arrive in Guadix, the city of the Caves! ACCOMMODATION Hotel Palacio de Oñate BIKE 81km, + 1700m DAY 4 GUADIX to CALAHORRA We start the day with a descent through a spectacular canyon. Then, after passing by some Andalusian villages, we travel along the north-eastern slope of the Sierra, maintaining an altitude of 1500m, crossing vast forests and by-passing huge valleys until descending to Calahorra, a village with an imposing castle. DAY 5 CALAHORRA to BÉRCHULES A real mountain day awaits us! Start with an ascent of almost 1000m through forests and dirt roads until Puerto de La Ragua at 2000m of altitude. The scenery is fantastic, we are now in a mountain pass that allows us to cross the mountain from North to South. Once on the southern slope of the Serra you will notice an enormous change in the landscape, now more exposed and with less vegetation, but more spectacular. Cycling on roads with 2000m of altitude, we will have views that reach the Mediterranean. Finish the day with an impressive descent to the beautiful region of the Alpujarras. ACCOMMODATION Hotel Los Bérchules BIKE 95km, + 1900m DAY 6 BÉRCHULES to CAPILEIRA A more tranquil day, in which we cross the Alpujaras region, known for its villages and towns of great Moorish influence. Pass by several villages and end in Capileira, the "capital" of the Alpujaras with time to visit its streets and picas stores. We are now ready to attack the longest climb ever of a cyclist's life! DAY 7 CAPILEIRA to GÜÉJAR SIERRA This is the day! The day where we reach the highlight of this great crossing - the pass by the Mulhacen peak (the highest of the mountain range) and the ascent to Veleta (3400m) after the longest climb in the life of a Mountain Biker - 35km long and 2000m of elevation gain. The whole climb is carried out along the most unexplored side of this mountain range and is an unique opportunity to cycle through a typical mountain landscape, with ridges, rocks and small ponds! This is the highest cycling path in Europe. ACCOMMMODATION Hotel El Guerra BIKE 60km, + 1950m DAY 8 GÜÉJAR SIERRA to MÁLAGA Having finished our adventure, it's time to return and bring with us memories of an experience that we hope has been epic!
