AN EXCITING NEW PARTNERSHIP FOR NFA IN 2018! From 1 st January 2018 Norfolk Folk Association (NFA) and Suffolk Folk (SF) will be working in partnership - this follows declining membership and fewer volunteers willing to serve on respective committees - in the case of NFA, no volunteers came forward to join the committee following our recruiting letter of 11 th April 2017; a particularly disappointing response - there is, however, a great deal to be gained from our associations pooling expertise, enthusiasm and opportunities to promote Folk in our counties. The new grouping will be known as Mardles and will be internet/website based only - NFA and SF will retain respective identities under this new umbrella nomination. NFA s Folklist booklet and SF s Mardles magazine, will cease from 1 st January 2018 - Folklist is currently produced in hardcopy format for half NFA s membership and the remainder digitally, free of charge. It is not available to non-members - Mardles magazine is currently produced in hardcopy and digital format, free of charge to members and on payment to non-members - the information both contain will be transferred into a new Mardles website. Mardles website will be the information and advertising carrying forum for both - comprising articles, details of activities, clubs, sessions and events, and third party paid advertising - advertising revenue will be used to fund Mardles activities promoting Folk. A new Mardles Committee will run Mardles - Norfolk s representative will initially be Peter Rushmer who will liaise with remaining members of the NFA Committee during the transition period up to the launch of Mardles - NFA Members will be updated on progress in the months leading up to the launch - John Heaser (of Norfolk Ceilidhs) will be technical adviser and website designer. Mardles will have NO PAYING MEMBERS and NO SUBSCRITIONS TO COLLECT - NFA and SF membership will cease on and from 1 st January 2018 - SO PLEASE DO NOT PAY ANY NFA SUBSCRITIONS FOR 2018! - there will be OPEN ACCESS TO Mardles WEBSITE - if you would like information included on Mardles website please send details by email to peterrushmer@hotmail.com or by hardcopy to NFA Hon. Secretary, David Radnedge, 20 Kenneth McKee Plain, Norwich NR2 2TH, or tel: 01603 615524 - we should also be grateful if Club Secretaries, Callers, Bands, Session MCs and other organisations would continue to keep us up to date with any changes to their details and ensure that we have their current and preferred contact details. Many thanks! Page8
