May - Aug 2015 Volume 3, Issue 2 DIRECTOR S Corner Another fun spring season! We started with Pre-Laughlin with 48 PSHOG members. Saturday evening was interesting with a power failure. However, that didn t stop us from having a great time. Then the following week we had a Chapter Poker run with a BBQ right after our chapter meeting. Thanks to Bob, Dan and Scott for being the Chefs for the day and thanks to Michael for a great job leading us through the valley on the Poker Run. Then there was a group that spent 3 days in the Apache Junction area in Arizona. Two weeks later, we headed off to San Diego for Point Loma. Thanks for a great day to Jim and Linda Jones. We started the first week of June in Big Bear with Steven and Giuseppe leading the group. Weather this year was far from normal. Many headed out for their summer rides, while some of us held the fort down and had two summer breakfast runs to Idyllwild. In fact, in August we had 26 attend the breakfast ride. Yea! Dan s Safety Tool Box Tire Maintenance Now that the riding season is rapidly approaching, it s time to insure your bike/trike s tires are in good condition. On most motorcycles, the Front tire usually lasts longer than the Rear tire. Fronts usually go about 15-20 thousand miles compared to the Rear that usually lasts about 8-15 thousand miles (depending on your riding style and amount of weight you re carrying). On trikes, I m assuming the Fronts are the same but you need to pay attention to the rear tires for tread wear. Also, make sure you maintain the right air pressure for the amount of weight you re carrying. So before you hit the road this season, make sure you have good rubber on your ride. Wow, that is a good itinerary enjoying our Harley-Davidsons along with PSHOG friends. Check the calendar for our upcoming fall rides. Don t miss the fun. See you on our next ride. Death Valley, Red Rock Canyon & Valley of Fire by Kurt Davis Mar 12 15 Palm Springs Hogs know how to ride and party. We had 34 members participate in the 4 day ride through Valley of Fire, Red Rock and Death Valley. The weather was absolutely perfect! We rode over 1125 miles through some of the most magnificent scenery. The red colors were bigger than life in the Valley of Fire. We also did a movie shot in the valley. Come to the year-end party to see the shot. The following pictures tell some of the stories. Wow, we had way too much fun with many stories and memories. 2
Pre-Laughlin by Michael Hardwick April 10 12 Our annual Pre-Laughlin ride started out with 48 attendees and Linda driving the chuck wagon. We headed out of the desert for our first fuel/rest stop in Amboy then back on the highway for our lunch stop in the beautifully large, spacious city of Goff. There we feasted on Subway sandwiches, chips and drinks provided by PSHOG and delicious homemade cookies. We arrived at the Aquarius Casino Resort after a beautiful ride through the hills and down into Laughlin. Fun and games in the hospitality suite wound up our first day of riding and relaxing. Saturday s ride to Oatman was a blast hanging out with the wild burros and checking out the old historic mining town. Our lunch ride to Hualapai was not without incident as we lost our membership officer s trike due to mechanical issues. After getting everyone on their way, lunch at the resort was yummy followed by a ride down to the Kingman Harley Davidson dealership to shop for a bit. Our Saturday evening started with a delicious buffet in the casino with all the members and concluded with the loss of power all along the river which was not restored until early Sunday morning. Nevertheless, we still had a great time, as we always do, and putting another PreLaughlin ride in the history books. It will be one to remember but it s always good when we re all together riding the roadways! 3
Poker Run & BBQ By Michael Hardwick April 18 A day of fun with our Harleys, a barbecue, friends and a poker run. We always make a get-together event with something for everyone. Ok, so we started out after our chapter meeting and shopping spree (thanks Mike!) with 11 bikes and one trike and rode a short run down to La Quinta park to draw our first card. We then headed over to Valley V Twin where they had a nice setup for us to relax and shop and draw our second card. Next, off to the Desert Community Center on Dillon Road for draw number three and a break. Then is was back to the dealership for our last card draw with our own director Kurt scoring the high hand and the cash! Out in front of the shop we find Scott, Dano and Bob working the grill to perfection with brats and all the yummy fixings. Love those peppers and onions Dano! More fun times! That's how we do it at Palm Springs HOG! 4
