August 2016 Well, Hello all my fellow HOG members. Just want to say once again, It is sad that we lost John Van Wyke and I hope his family will do well with his absence. As we all know John loved his wife and family and he also loved to ride his Harley. Now as for us, I know the weather has not been nice to us but we can do what we can to compensate for it. Light colored shirts, long or short sleeve, Lotion, water, lotion, and water. Oh and did I say water? I'm trying to come up with rides to cool areas if they exist. Input is always welcomed from all members. Now some safety reminders, Never ride beyond your means. Always get the big picture, (Look forward about 200 feet). Big Bear Ride Don't Tailgate you never know what might come from under the car ahead. Check your tire pressure and oil levels on your ride. So with all that said, Be Safe, Ride Safe... Lawrence P. S. Don t miss the next chapter meeting! There will be a surprise announcement that you don t want to miss!
AUG 2016 It s a sad time for our Chapter after losing 2 of our LLHOGERS and one in the hospital and now home recovering. Brings up how precious our time is and for us not to take anything for granted. The memorial service for LLHOG ER John Van Wyke was on 6 AUG 2016 (pictures on page 8). The LLHOG Chapter rode out together from QUAID S to pay our respects to John and his family. We had a good turn-out and enjoyed talks about John and a lot of good food at the union hall where John formerly served as president. The Chapter collected some money and used some Chapter funds to help John s family with the abundant food after the service. Flowers we sent were also present at the memorial. Even though it s a sad time in the Chapter we need to be strong and continue riding for the memories of John and Donnie. Just a short one this month. Stay Safe and Ride in the Wind and remember the cagers out there don t always see us, so ride with all of your senses at 100 percent. Randy Kim Treasurer, LLHOG
Hi All, I hope this finds you all doing well, I'm sure we have all been trying to beat the heat and still get some riding in. We had a great time at our dinner get together at Pinnacle Peak and hope we can do that again soon. Thank you Barry for the idea and organizing event. Give us some suggestions for a place you think we might enjoy. I know Angus McCurdys in Redlands is opening soon and they make a great burger and tri tip sandwich as well and a bakery that will make you put your diets on hold for the day! Attention Ladies: the Ladies of HOG from Temecula Valley Chapter are having a Fashion Show and Lunch at their dealership, Saturday, August 20th at 12:00 pm and you have all been invited. In case you need the address, it is 28964 Old Town Front Street, Temecula, CA. I have had some ideas for get togethers including a Progressive Dinner that was also on my list of things I would like to do. After running the info by "the dudes" and getting the OK (hint, hint) I'm hoping some of you ladies would like to help plan and get it in motion. Randy and I are still working on the picnic, we're trying to decide on the food and date. It's been kinda hot and I know some of you would like to have it during cooler weather. I don't know if we are going to actually get cooler weather but we are trying to pin it down. I'm hoping to have some details by next meeting. Well that's all I have for now, see you all at the meeting! Sandy
It is with sorrow of heart that we must report on the loss of John Van Wyke, member of the Loma Linda Harley Owner s Group and consistent participant in Dan s Ride on Wednesdays. He loved riding his Harley and by joining his friends on Dan s Ride he found relief from his heavy responsibilities during the week. He spoke affectionately of his Sweetheart, his beloved wife Ester, and introduced her to his Harley riding friends when he had the chance. John s wife loved her hot chocolate every evening and John was there to make sure she got it, sometimes taking her out for it at her favorite place. John was very involved with his church and his servant s heart made his faith evident to all he came in contact with. His friends and relatives spoke with affection and genuine amazement at how he was always there to help any time a need arose. It became clear at the memorial service, held at the union hall where he had served as president, that John was a handy-man s handy-man and was known by all his neighbors as the guy who helped them fix their electrical problem, roof problem, house problem, or anything that was broke or needed improvement. John liked to tell the story of the time he was riding at the back of the pack, where he was most comfortable on Dan s Ride, and the pack made a U-turn, then continued on down the road. It dawned on them that John was not behind them anymore and they went back to find him. He had gone off the side of the road and crashed. He was hurt bad enough to warrant time in the hospital for recovery. But riding his Harley Davidson was his favorite thing and he was soon up and riding again, telling friends of his crash with a laugh. From everything I have heard about John, he was the kind of guy that good people want to hold up as an example and emulate. The thing about John s accident in this case, is that it had nothing to do with being on a motorcycle or committing a riding error. A young person driving in the opposite direction went onto the shoulder of the road, over corrected, and in a split second was right in front of him. There was nothing he could do to avoid it. John will be remembered with fondness and missed by a multitude of friends and loved ones. The memory of the righteous is blessed.... Proverbs 10:7 Greg Robertson
