Bossier City Hog Newsletter Nov. - Dec. 2012 Director David Hanson Hello Bossier HOG, I am going to keep this article short and sweet. Again I want to say thank you all for a wonderful year as Director of Bossier Harley Owners Group. As we move into the winter months I want to remind everyone to take the time and check the safety of your ride as the temperature drops hose will get brittle things will leak and tire pressure will drop. I would also like to say that supporting the new Director and Officer corps will be critical the success of the coming year. If you can lend a hand here and there please do. I hope that everyone has a great year of riding in 2013 and I will see you all in 2014 when I return. Do not forget to get your historic destination rides in. The details can be located on the chapter website at www.bossierhog.com If you every need anything do not hesitate to call me directly 318-525-4008 or southernboy.david@gmail.com Again let me thank you for this opportunity to lead a great organization. Secretary: Gayle Pearce Well, I guess by the time this is published, we will have our new Director and Officers. I m sure most of you are aware of the change the Chapter is going thru, and some of you are a little nervous, but I think the Chapter will come out just fine! I think it is great that the Dealer is going to be more active with the Chapter. I m sure we will see some changes, but maybe that is for the best. Change is always good - Just remember to keep a positive and open mind. Negative ideas and comments are only feeding grounds for more negativity! I, myself am looking forward to some new changes and ideas and all I can say is Bring it on!! I like new adventures!! Well enough on that on other news, the past two months seem to have just flown by! It seems like we ve had rides every weekend and still more to come in the upcoming weeks. First, we had the BOO Run, which, as usual was a huge success the day turned out to be great riding weather the only thing wrong was I was hoping I would win the Harley and trailer!!! Next, if you didn t make the Run with the Nuns, you missed another great event. I met some of the nuns that were in town for a conference and one rode with Steve on the ride and had a blast! I think she waved at every single vehicle we passed, whether there was someone in the car or not. This was the first time they had ever ridden on a motorcycle and they were just blown away They said they are definitely coming back again next year and want to ride again! I think they all have a permanent smile that will never come off!! Another great ride was the Toys For Tots, we collected a ton of toys for kids, the Harley Dealer did a great job cooking for everyone and the band was great!! All in all we had a great event. Thanks to everyone that helped out in registration and especially Ron for playing Santa Claus!!!! If you missed these rides, there are still more coming up, the Vets for Vets, and Shriners Toy Run just to name a couple. Also, remember, we will be having our Christmas Party, December 1 st -- if you want to exchange gifts, just bring a wrapped gift to the party (valued at $20 - $25), just remember it s 1 gift per person!! Hope to see everyone there!

I also want to wish all the HOG members that have a birthday coming up in November and December a VERY HARLEY HAPPY BIRTHDAY Reminder to everyone about our monthly breakfast ride the same day as our meeting, and as usual it is led by the one and only Eddy Settle. We still meet at the old Shreveport Harley Shop at 7:00/a.m. and KSU at 7:30/a.m. sharp! There is another group leaving the Bossier Harley Shop at the same time for you folks living in Bossier. This is a great breakfast and the price is donations only. All proceeds go towards the Charity Indoor Sports, who are wheelchair bound. So, plan on getting up a little earlier and join us you will be eating breakfast anyway, so why not contribute to a good cause and get your belly full too. Trust me, it ll be the best breakfast you ll have in a long time! Until next time--------------- Ride Safe and Ride Often!!!!! MEMBERSHIP CORNER By Johnnie Hall Covington Annette Young is an LPN but has been studying for an advanced degree and will graduate in December as a Registered Nurse. She hopes to work in a hospital emergency room. She and husband Greg Young live in Marthaville, Louisiana, and are the parents of five children--their youngest is nineteen. The couple owns a 2005 Ultra Classic and Annette enjoyed riding behind Greg but she saw other women riding. Annette took a riders safety course and she rode her son s Softail for a while but she felt it was

too big for her. As a 27th wedding anniversary gift, Annette got her 2012 Sportster 1200 Model Forty-Eight which fits just right. She can handle the bike well and loves its retro look. Annette is active in her church. Brian Hughes lives in Shreveport but is gone about two-thirds of the year on cross country hauls as a truck driver. His fiancée Courtney travels with him in the truck and is also his passenger on his 2013 Electra Glide, his first Harley-Davidson. They travel to all of the Lower 48 in the truck. Recently they rode the new bike on a 300 mile loop from Shreveport, Minden, Alexandria, and Toledo Bend. Brian likes paintball and plays at Off Limits in Elm Grove but has participated in paintball tournaments in Chicago and other big cities. Brian Lindley and wife Anita used to ride a Goldwing but then the babies started coming so they got rid of the bike. When the fifth child graduated college, they knew it was time to get back on two wheels so they bought a 2013 Anniversary Edition Ultra Glide, their first Harley-Davidson. They live in the country in the Marshall, Texas, area. Anita is a nurse practitioner at the VA Clinic in Longview and Brian is the vice-president of McBride Builders in Bossier City. McBride has built a number of Barksdale Federal Credit Unions and will be constructing a large church soon. The couple just returned from their vacation home in Colorado which they bought 15 years ago. They enjoyed the first snow of the season while there. Brian likes fishing from his Ranger Bass Boat but also likes fly fishing in streams in Colorado and New Mexico as well as on the 9 acre pond on their property in Marshall. Chad Darden traded his 2007 Sporty in on his 2012 Dyna Super Glide. He and passenger Wanda Page attended the Boo Benefit and they ve made other weekend rides with friends to places like Natchitoches. Chad is fitting the Dyna with saddlebags so they can take longer rides. Chad works for Blue Haven Pools and when he s not working, he likes to ride four wheelers in Texas and hang out with his two children, ages seven and eight. Shawne Marsala is riding her fourth Harley, a 2013 Street Glide, which she rode recently to the Hot Springs Rally. Shawne also has a 2006 Triumph Bonneville which is a town bike. She is a Section 504 Coordinator for the Bossier Parish School Board. Shawne likes jogging, working out, reading, and dove hunting and has plans to soon go to the Gulf of Mexico with her parents for redfish fishing. Michael Douglas has a 62 Panhead and a 2003 police Electra Glide and now a 2013 Ultra Classic Limited. He and wife Cat live in Brandon, Mississippi, where Cat is an accountant. She is looking forward to riding behind Michael more often since they have the Ultra with a princess seat. Michael is a dispatcher for Entergy Mississippi Power Company. The couple plans to ride to Santa Fe, New Mexico, for Thanksgiving and to the Dakotas in the spring. Alan Bauldree has an interesting occupation; he is a blacksmith, metalworker, and armorer. He makes Medieval style armor for those who study the Middle Ages and are involved in reenactments and ancient competitions like jousting. Alan has sold his works of armor to people living in Australia, Germany and other European countries, as well as the United States, especially in the Northeast. He makes the armor from 16 gauge steel. Jousting suits are heavier as they take quite a beating in the competitions. Alan and wife Charlotte live in Homer, Louisiana, where she works for H&R Block during tax season and is also a substitute teacher. Charlotte enjoys crochet and ceramics. Thirty years ago Alan rode a 1952 BSA but now is enjoying his 2013 Street Bob. It s a much bigger bike than the BSA and Alan has some health issues but he is practicing and hopes to ride with the group soon. He also has parts of a 1957 Triumph and he hopes to use his metalworking skills to make it road worthy. The couple has a 4 month old granddaughter named Alana who lives in Oklahoma and they are thinking of moving closer so they can see her more often. Robert Heard put 10,000 miles on his 2011 Fat Bob in the first year. Robert said he has ridden all his life but the Fat Bob is his first Harley. He and his wife Stacy live in his hometown of Haynesville and they have ridden all over Arkansas, East Texas, and Louisiana. Stacy is a teacher in Magnolia, Arkansas, and she has two children by a previous marriage. Robert is an oilfield mechanic for Key Energy and primarily works on pumps for disposal wells. Robert has a 21 year old son who is a surgical tech at Willis-Knighton North. Robert and Stacy just got married in June and they both enjoy hunting and fishing A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul. George Bernard Shaw If you are a new HOG member, please contact me so that I can write about you and your bike in the next newsletter. FuschiaRoadKing@aol.com or 318-865-5955 Webmaster: Ed Goerbig It has been a great summer. Now that we have moved into the last couple months of the year and the temperature are cooling, riding becomes hit and miss with the weather. This is the time of the year I start to think about increased motorcycle maintenance. Checking or replacing tires, battery, brake pads, and oil changes if needed. I use the colder weather for this time. November to February usually brings us our coldest months. Great time to plan out your motorcycle maintenance needs and personal protection needs for next year. Maybe Santa will bring you a Harley gift or two if you have been nice.

On the website front, we have had 13,005 visitors to the website so far this year. We are averaging more than thirteen hundred people a month. I imagine that most of that traffic is our members using the site to stay up to date on the current events that are happening, but it also serves as an example to others of what we do for fun. We had two really fun chapter rides to the Boo Benefit and Run With The Nuns events. I have posted new photos (provided by membership) to the website of the events. Weekends filled with motorcycles and friends. That is the best part of the HOG chapter for me. It brings people together who share the same interest as you. Having fun and meeting new people while motorcycling. That s what it is all about You can find out about our events by visiting our website or facebook page: http://www.orgsites.com/la/bchog/ www.bossierhog.com Treasurer: Lisa Delaney Hard to believe 2012 is coming to a close. Mark your calendar to join us at the Christmas Party on December 1st at 7 pm at the Krewe of Gemini (2101 East Texas St in Bossier). I hope all of you had as much fun riding as I did this past year. I met some wonderful people & many new friends by being involved with our local HOG Chapter. Let's all make 2013 another great year. Riding is an adventure and changing road conditions keep us challenged. I am not certain what the road will be like for Bossier HOG in 2013 but I do know how to lean into a curve and enjoy a new adventure! Merchandise and E-mails/ Editor: Tammy Stephens Thanks to all the officers and members that made this a memorable year for Bossier HOG. The newsletter is open to members as well, so if you have an article of interest you would like to submit feel free to e-mail it to me and I will publish it in the next edition. If you are not getting the HOG e-mails or you know someone who isn t please contact me at Saintsfan44@bellsouth.net It s your group, let s own it!
