Dear Yale Traveler It is my pleasure to announce the 2019 educational travel program Egypt: Land of the Pharaohs. Yale s past tours to Egypt quickly sold and were acclaimed by the travelers as a trip of a lifetime. Egypt: Land of the Pharaohs will focus on Egypt s celebrated history through the millennia. The life-giving Nile River gave birth around 3200 B.C.E. to a remarkable civilization that lasted for 3,000 years. Explore the glorious age of the pharaohs aboard the stylish 18-cabin yacht Sun Boat III, reserved exclusively for Yale travelers. This March 2019 program is also a wonderful opportunity to observe the new Egypt. Recent political changes that have swept through the Middle East began in Tunisia and Egypt, and have engendered monumental transformations for the government of Egypt as well as for ordinary Egyptians. Travel with Yale and witness this firsthand. Accompanying you on this trip-of-a-lifetime, although not yet confirmed, will be a Yale faculty lecturer. We expect to announce the name and biography of the Yale lecturer shortly, so check our website, yaleedtravel.org/ egypt19, for the latest information. In addition, traveling with Yale from start to finish will be two Egyptologists: Tarek Swelim and Fetiche Posma-Zaalouk. Both have accompanied past Yale Egypt programs and have received excellent reviews. Local guides will also add their expertise throughout the program. Travel with Yale and see history in the making the next chapter in Egypt s long saga begun so many millennia ago. This program is sure to sell quickly. To hold your space on this trip-of-a-lifetime, please call (203) 432-1952 or make a secure reservation online at yaleedtravel.org/egypt19. HEIROGLYPHICS Highlights Cruise the Nile River aboard the deluxe Sun Boat III, enjoying scenes of rural life along the riverbanks and an outstanding educational program. Marvel at the Great Pyramid of Giza and the nearby Sphinx; the iconic temples of Luxor, Karnak, and Abu Simbel; and the splendid new Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza. Visit Old Cairo s Islamic monuments, including the Ibn Tulun and Sultan Hassan mosques. Tarek Swelim, a native Egyptian, is an expert on the art, architecture, and history of the Middle East and has been leading tours throughout Egypt, North Africa, and the Middle East since 1979. He received his BS and MA from the American University in Cairo and his PhD in Islamic art and architecture from Harvard. He currently is on the faculty of Hamid Bin Khalifa University in Doha, Qatar.
