GROUP VISITS & TOURS MARCH 2016 MARCH 2017

THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE ROYAL NAVY The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN), established in 2009, tells the story of the four fighting forces of the British Royal Navy on land, on sea, under the sea and in the air. Its variety of attractions, famous warships, exhibitions, collections and much more, make the museum the perfect place for groups to visit and experience together. Groups can journey through 400 years of naval history at The Royal Marines Museum at Eastney in Portsmouth. They can learn about life beneath the waves on HMS Alliance at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum or visit Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower at Gosport, where visitors can follow the development of naval armaments, from gunpowder to missiles, all set within 18th century buildings. The Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton truly welcomes visits from all groups, and tells the story of the men, women, aircraft and ships who have served with the flying arm of the Royal Navy since the early 20th century. The NMRN also has the oldest historic fighting ship still afloat in the UK, HMS Trincomalee in Hartlepool. And due to open in 2016 is HMS Caroline, the last survivor of the Battle of Jutland, the greatest naval battle of all time. An amazing experience for your group

THE ROYAL NAVY SUBMARINE MUSEUM The Royal Navy Submarine Museum tells the story of the Royal Navy s submarine service. Set on the site on the submarine service s 20th century base on the Gosport side of Portsmouth Harbour, the museum is home to the Royal Navy s very first submarine Holland 1 and the only surviving Second World War-era submarines remaining in the UK, the mighty HMS Alliance and midget X24. This family-friendly museum has working periscopes and hands on interactive games. The main attraction is HMS Alliance, refurbished following a 7 million refit and opened to a Royal fanfare in 2014. An amazing experience for your group

EXPLOSION MUSEUM OF NAVAL FIREPOWER Explosion is an award-winning museum of naval warfare created within 18th century buildings at the Royal Navy s former armaments depot of Priddy s Hard, in Gosport, Hampshire. Explosion tells a human story - of the designers, makers, seamen and thousands of female munitions workers who worked with these armaments over the centuries. Female munitions workers were employed for the first time during the First World War and Priddy s Hard was even home to one of Britain s first women s football team. The museum boasts an extensive collection which includes small arms, cannon and guns, shells and munitions, mines, torpedoes and modern missiles. There s even an atom bomb, whose ominous hulk meets visitors on arrival. Exhibits are brought to life with dramatic audio-visual effects and scene-setting, computer interactives and hands-on displays. An amazing experience for your group

ROYAL MARINES MUSEUM A vast collection of artefacts, medals, paintings and archive documents help visitors to walk through history from 1664 and learn about the lives of the extraordinary people that have become Royal Marines Commandos. The museum is at the heart of Royal Marine history, in the Officers Mess of the former Royal Marines Barracks in Southsea, Portsmouth. Follow a recruit through training and on to deployment around the world, then creep through the jungle, marvel at the medal collection and take a trip down memory lane in the Second World War home front kitchen. Visitors can finish their day in the awardwinning café, The Quartermaster s Kitchen and museum shop. FLEET AIR ARM MUSEUM Based at the Royal Naval Air Station in Yeovilton in Somerset, The Fleet Air Arm Museum (FAAM) is Europe s largest naval aviation museum, with four exhibitions, more than 90 aircraft, 30,000 artefacts and two million records. Visitors can go on board the first British Concorde, view the cockpit and visit the award-winning Aircraft Carrier Experience, where museum meets theatre. You ll fly by helicopter to the replica flight deck of the aircraft carrier, HMS Ark Royal. Each of the four large halls in the museum tell the stories of naval aviation, from the first manned kites towed behind naval vessels, to helium filled airships, seaplanes, bi-planes and the carrier borne aircraft of the Second World War and modern Sea Harriers and helicopters. Outside there is a Mini Marines Assault course, and restaurant. New exhibitions include Saved! 100 Years of Search and Rescue, which tells of the century-long service of the Search and Rescue helicopter. An amazing experience for your group

NEW FOR 2016 HMS CAROLINE A significant launch for the NMRN, the restoration of the last surviving ship from First World War battle, HMS Caroline, opens to the public in Belfast in May 2016. HMS Caroline, a light cruiser built in 1914, is the last survivor of the Battle of Jutland, and the last survivor of the Grand Fleet which lay at the heart of Britain s power and politics in the period 1905 1918. The upcoming centennial commemorations of the outbreak of the First World War and the Battle of Jutland mean that it is the perfect time to present HMS Caroline to the public. Visitors will be able to explore HMS Caroline and discover an astonishing survivor of the First World War that was also the longest serving ship in the Royal Navy after Nelson s famous HMS Victory. We will tell the story of each of the different periods of her history, using HMS Caroline s unique collection of over 450 original objects. The Drill Hall will be an area where people can gather and find out about the training of Naval personnel and everyday life on board. An amazing experience for your group
