NORTHERN SPAIN Barcelona is the cosmopolitan capital of Spain s Catalonia region. Known for its art and architecture and the fantastical Sagrada Família church and other modernist landmarks designed by Antoni Gaudí dot the city. Tarragona is a port city with many ancient ruins remaining. The Amfiteatre Romà is a 2nd-century arena facing the Mediterranean, the Necropolis contains Roman tombs and traces of the Forum stand among the alleys of this walled, medieval Old Town. Lleida is an ancient city with La Seu Vella, a Gothic-Romanesque cathedral in a ruined hilltop fortress, towering over the city. Below with shops sit inside many of the old town s striking buildings. On a hill the 12th-century Castle of Gardeny explores the region s Templar history. Zaragoza, also called Saragossa, overlooks the Ebro River. In the city center is baroque Nuestra Señora del Pilar basilica, a famous pilgrimage site with a shrine to the Virgin Mary and multiple domes. Pamplona, with its grand cathedral, archaeological treasures and 16th-century fortifications, there s much history hidden in these atmospheric medieval laneways. Bilbao, with the Guggenheim Museum as a great international symbol, is the gateway to the Basque cultural universe. It is a city that is an example of urban transformation at a global level and has maintained a number of hallmarks that make it singular and unique. Burgos still preserves important vestiges of its medieval splendour. The city, which was the capital of the unified kingdom of Castilla- Leon for five centuries, boasts a masterpiece of Spanish Gothic architecture: the cathedral of Burgos, is declared a World Heritage Site. You will visit the Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família (Church of the Sacred Family), the Guell Park, a reflection of Gaudí s artistic genius and Las Ramblas in the historical centre, famous for its vibrant and lively promenade. Catalonia La Pedrera, Barcelona (or similar) B Day 3 Today with your Local guide you will enjoy a full day tour to Tarragona, a city with a millenary history. The ancient Tarraco, founded by the Romans was one of the most important cities of the Mediterranean. This impressive Roman legacy, symbol of the current Tarragona has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. But Tarragona is not only Roman monuments, it also has an important medieval past, modernist buildings, white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, a picturesque seaside neighbourhood, forests and protected natural spaces, traditions and popular culture..even the most adventurous can dive in the largest urban cave in Catalonia. Here you will vist the historical center, the Roman Amphitheater and the Cathedral. Day 5 This morning you will meet your Local Driver to travel to Zaragoza. On the way you stop and meet your Local Guide to have a half day Tour of Lleida to see the historical center, the Turó de la Seu Vella (the old Cathedral of Lleida) and the Paeria Palace, the name of the City Hall, built in the civil Romanesque style dating back to 1264. Vincci Zaragoza Zentro (or similar) B Day 6 This morning you will meet your Local Guide for a half day Tour in Zaragoza starting with a panoramic tour of the city to see the amazing architecture followed by a visit to the Aljaferia Palace, a fortified medieval Islamic palace built during the second half of the 11th century and the Cathedral of the Savior of Zaragoza, constructed in 1683 and now a World Heritage Site. Lunch and the rest of the day is at your leisure Tonight you will enjoy dinner in a local restaurant with beer, wine & soft drinks included Vincci Zaragoza Zentro (or similar) B, D Day 7 This morning you will meet your Local Driver to transfer to Bilbao. On the way you will stop and meet your Local guide in Pamplona for a city Tour to visit the Portal de Francia, the City Walls dating back to 1324 to understand how and why the bastions were built. Day 8 This morning you will meet your Local guide for a full day Tour of Bilbao. You will visit the Guggenheim Museum, a great international symbol and the gateway to the Basque cultural universe. Barceló Bilbao Nervión (or similar) B Day 9 This morning you will meet your Local Guide for a full day visit to Burgos which has many historic landmarks, of particular importance; the Santa Maria Arche and the Cathedral of Burgos declared d as a World Heritate Site by UNESCO as well as a visit to the ancient Palace of the Palace of the Condestables of Castile. Commissioned by the High Constable during the 15th century, its creator was Simón de Colonia. It served as meeting point between the Catholic Monarchs and Christopher Columbus on his return from his second journey to America. The Courts in 1515 were also held here, in which the union between Navarre and Castile was approved. It was an emblematic building for the Monarchs of this period.all the Hapsburgs stayed in this house at some point in time. Its name refers to the cord of a Franciscan monk that frames the main entrance.
