Foreword London will host the Olympic Games between 27 July and 12 August 2012 and the Paralympic Games between 29 August and 9 September 2012. The city will be welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world to enjoy and participate in the Games and surrounding events. Most overseas visitors will arrive and depart on scheduled flights to one of the many well-connected airports in or around London. But others will wish to use private or chartered aircraft. This will present a challenge, in terms of both airport capacity on the ground and managing the airspace over South East England, which is already among the most crowded in the world. To deal with this challenge the Government is proposing to introduce new measures to help control the flow of aircraft during the Games period. This will include the need for prior booking of arrival and departure slots at all airports and airfields in South East England: aircraft will not be permitted to operate without these. There will also be new airspace control measures in place, both for capacity and security reasons. London s largest airports are already heavily used. Heathrow in particular will have no spare capacity to accommodate additional aircraft movements during the Games period. However, South East England is fortunate to be served by a wide range of other airports, both large and small, as this booklet illustrates. All of the airports and airfields featured here are able and ready to take additional private and non-scheduled commercial flights during the Games period. They have been listed on the basis that they are within an approximate 120 minute journey to the main Games site at Stratford, either by rail or by road. The information they have supplied here is intended to provide an initial guide to what is available and where. Those wishing to operate non-scheduled flights during the Games period are encouraged to make use of the contacts supplied to confirm details and availability. Early contact is recommended, especially for those who have particular needs or preferences as regards location, type of aircraft, or timings. Many operators are making their plans now. Slots at peak times are expected to be subject to heavy demand, and are likely to be fully subscribed well before the Games at many airports. The airports in and around London look forward to welcoming you in 2012 but please make your arrangements as early as possible to ensure that your needs can be met. UK Department for Transport London March 2011 Notes 1. While the Department for Transport (DfT) and its partners and agents have made every effort to ensure the information in this document is correct, the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of that information cannot be guaranteed and no liability can be accepted for any loss or damages of any kind resulting from reliance on the information this document contains. 2. It should be noted that not all of the airports featured provide full Air Traffic Control services and some are outside the controlled airspace structure. Operators should contact the airport of their choice to ensure that their individual needs can be satisfied in this respect. 3. It should be noted that possibilities for helicopter transfer to and from Central London, as referred to in some entries, are likely to be limited during the Games period. 1

Bournemouth Nearly 50 million has been spent recently on upgrading the airport s facilities. As well as a new terminal building, the runway has been resurfaced, apron space has doubled, new primary and secondary radar has been installed, and a new Cat 3 landing system has been introduced. The airport is recognised as an area of aircraft engineering excellence, and is the base for a number of maintenance companies. Bournemouth has an excellent weather record, and there is significant parking space available for all types of general aviation, as well as executive jets and aircraft up to Boeing 767 s. Bournemouth is one of the few UK airports to offer an in-flight catering service which regularly provides a top quality service for commercial and executive aircraft. The airport s excellent facilities, good weather and operational flexibility as well as proximity to the Olympic and Paralympic sailing venue at Weymouth and Portland, means that Bournemouth will prove a popular location during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, so early booking is strongly recommended. 10 Image - Bournemouth

London Oxford Oxford continues to evolve as a thriving London option for business aviation users and operators with ongoing investment in the facilities and infrastructure. Some 20m has been invested in the last five years with hangarage increasing by 80%, construction of a new main runway, installation of an instrument landing system and an award-winning FBO. With the same runway length as London City Airport, longer opening hours than its peers and enhancements such as Cat 6 RFF and pet importation approval, Oxford is just an hour from the West end of London and has attracted several engineering and charter operators with its lower costs and ease of access. Partially in readiness for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, an additional 4.4 acres (1.8 hectares) of new parking area was constructed in 2010. At Oxford, business aviation enjoys all the benefits of VIP services at considerably lower costs than London alternatives. In recent years, regional airline operations have commenced from Oxford utilizing the exclusive executive business aviation handling facilities. 38 Image - London Oxford Airport

It is the home of five training organisations (notably the Airways Flying Club (formerly BEA/ BOAC and then British Airways). There are engineering facilities for piston and turbo-prop aeroplanes, but limited hangarage is available as over 200 aircraft are based here. Additionally, the two based helicopter companies operate around 30 machines for training and charter. Usual Fixed Base Operator (FBO) facilities available, along with full Air Traffic Control and Rescue & Fire Fighting Service. Local taxis, hire cars, hotels and trains to London are available.
