COMPOSITION OF EWA PARTNERSHIP 14 partners from 8 European countries (B, CZ, D, F, I, NL, S, UK), including: 3 industrial wind tunnel operators, 3 commercial wind tunnel operators, 7 research organisations, and 1 organisation for post-doctoral education. 11 partners operate wind tunnels, which are of utmost importance for industrial wind tunnel testing for aeronautics in Europe 5 partners are leading developers of advanced measuring technologies for wind tunnels in Europe. PRESENTATION & WORKSHOP ON MODEL DEFORMATION MEASUREMENTS ETW 20 october 2005 SPT and IPCT methods principle Markers for SPT method Lessons learnt Tested methods reveal an accuracy of better than 0.1 deg in twist & 0.1mm in bending ETW-SPT is the only online system (ONERA followed few weeks later) Critical parameters : field of view, marker density, camera optics & image focussing Light reflections & shadows are further issues Improvements on accuracy near wing-tip to be considered (due to vibrations, reduced chordlenght, etc.) Aerodays 2006 - Vienna - June 19th to 21st, 2006 12

CONCLUSION After 2 years activity, the major objectives of the Preparation and Harmonisation phases of EWA are well underway : partners meet frequently, model manufacturing and testing techniques are presented and compared together, standards are proposed EWA is now well recognized by European aircraft industry : workshops are attended as reference places to get valuable information, contacts with trains & cars industry Future EWA Structure after NOE s achievement (march 2009) is currently under discussion (Trade Association, ) Follow-on activities to be proposed under 7th PCRD Aerodays 2006 - Vienna - June 19th to 21st, 2006 15
