A Great Art Museum Hello and welcome to Madrid! It is a lovely 1: morning in the Spanish capital and ENW has just alighted from the metro at the Banco de Espana metro station and have a 15 min walk before we reach our first location on this Madrid trip. Where is ENW heading this late March morning? Well, we are going to one of the world s great 2: museums - The Prado. Museo del Prado is the national art museum for Spain and was first opened in 1819. 198 years ago the museum only had a 3: of 1,500 paintings. Today the collection consists of 7,600 paintings and more than 1,000 4:. Included in the museum are works from Goya, Raphael, Ruebens, El Greco, Rembrandt, Poussin and Lorrain. The painting that ENW really wants to see today was painted in 1634-35 by Diego Velazquez and is titled The Surrender at Breda. It has been described as one of the most 5: of all pictures and is a painting of the Siege of Breda in Holland in 1624. To avoid the long queues ENW has already paid 24,00 for our ticket and guidebook at The Prado website. So, as we enter the museum ENW must stop 6: so we hope to catch you later after we have finished our museum visit. Q & A 1 What year did The Prado first open? 2 How many painters are named in Location 1? 3 Which painting does ENW want to see? 4 How much was the entry ticket + guidebook? 5 What season is it in Madrid?

The 81, 000 seat stadium is home to Real Madrid, the most successful team in world history and the winner of 11 European Cups/Champions Leagues. Sadly, there is no home game this week so ENW cannot watch a game, but instead will pay 18 and go on an 80 minute tour of the stadium and club museum. Real Madrid likes to call itself the best club history, but ENW cannot agree with that! Obviously the team from the blue side of Manchester is by far the greatest! Maybe. But ENW is looking forward to visiting the stadium and in particular the team dressing room and the trophy room - with replicas of all the European Cups that Real have won. Between 1939-1981 the painting was displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. However in 1981, eight years after Picasso had died and with Spain a democracy again the painting was returned and displayed in The Prado Museum. Yet it moved again in 1992 to the Reina Sofia Museum 800 z: from The Prado. It is now too fragile to move again.
