Overview The UK government has announced a change to the Air Passenger Duty (APD) (Tax code GB); namely passengers up to and including the age of 15 will be exempted from this tax when travelling in the economy cabin. APD is chargeable at departure time from airports in the UK and collected at time of payment for ticket issue and reflected on the e-ticket itself. This latest exception (announced by the UK Government in their autumn statement late last year) will apply to passengers aged between 12 and 15 travelling in the economy cabin only for journeys commencing on 1 st march 2016. The mandate is currently being discussed at Industry level, and long term solutions to be discussed in upcoming working groups planned by IATA. The age can be added using any Passenger Type Code (PTC) that accepts age in the input. The following existing PTCs could be used for this as and when appropriate: Ann, Bnn, Cnn, Dnn, Enn, Fnn, Gnn, Inn, Jnn, Lnn, Mnn, Pnn, Snn, Tnn, Unn, Vnn, Ynn (Where nn equals the passengers age) For a full list of Passenger Type Codes and descriptions please make the entry HEPTC.85 in the Amadeus command page. Note: many of the PTCs listed above such as Ann (Age restricted companion), Snn (Restricted senior citizen) may not be relevant to your requirements so please choose appropriately. Example: Pricing a PNR for a passenger aged 14 using FXB/RC14 or FXB/RB14 would exempt the GB tax maintaining the fare the airline has filed appropriate for a seated passenger in this age group. NB for negotiated fares the additional pricing options required would need to be added to the entry e.g. FXP/RB14,U etc. To incorporate the passenger type code in the PNR prior to pricing Cnn can be used. Examples in this document refer to using the child + age PTC code Cnn. A PTC must be present prior to or at time of pricing for any appropriate APD exemptions for passengers under 16 travelling to be applied. Page 3 of 8
Adult Passenger Where tax is collected as Normal Example TST after pricing using the FXB itinerary pricing entry GB 71.00 Tax Collected (highlighted) as normal Page 4 of 8
12-15 Year Old Passenger GB Tax Exempted Passenger Age Applied in Name Field Using a Passenger Type Code in the Name Field e.g. C14 where 14 represents the passengers age Example TST after pricing using the FXB itinerary pricing entry >FXB Best Pricer - Published Fare (for negotiated fares add the additional pricing entry options as required e.g. FXB/R,U etc ) GB 71.00 Tax is exempted. Grand total of 742.71 is now 71.00 cheaper than the previous adult fare example. Page 5 of 8
12-15 Year Old Passenger GB Tax Exempted Passenger Age Applied in Pricing Entry Using a Passenger Type Code in the pricing entry e.g. C14 where 14 represents the passengers age >FXB/RC14 Best Pricer - Published Fare (for negotiated fares add the additional pricing entry options as required e.g. FXB/RC14,U etc ) (Alternatively FXB/RB14 could also be used which could apply a published fare appropriate for a seated passenger aged 14 without omitting the UK APD charge) GB 71.00 Tax is exempted. Grand total of 742.71 is now 71.00 cheaper. Page 6 of 8
12-15 Year Old Passenger - GB Tax Exempted Passenger Age and Date of Birth applied in the name field NB Unlike the CHD child passenger type code (used for 2-11 year olds) a date of birth SSR element (which airlines may require) is not automatically created when applying the Cnn passenger type code and date of birth name field combination. If required enter manually as per the airline s requested format. Note: Date of birth information alone when entered anywhere in the PNR will not exempt GB tax for passengers. In this example it is the Passenger Type Code and Age combination (C14) which is triggering the exception at pricing time not the date of birth. Example TST after pricing using the FXB itinerary pricing entry >FXB Best Pricer - Published Fare (for negotiated fares add the additional pricing entry options as required e.g. FXB/R,U etc ) GB 71.00 Tax is exempted. Grand total of 742.71 is now 71.00 cheaper. Page 7 of 8
2-11 Year Old Child Passenger Type Code and Date of Birth applied in the Name field Example TST after pricing using the FXB itinerary pricing entry >FXB Best Pricer - Published Fare (for negotiated fares add the additional pricing entry options as required e.g. FXB/R,U etc ) GB 71.00 Tax is exempted and the child discount is also applied to the fare in this example.
