Making a better world together ICC International Cooperation Center
International Cooperation Center Welcome to ICC We warmly welcome you to the International Cooperation Center (ICC) of the Korea International Cooperation Agency(KOICA). The ICC was opened in June 2008 as an exclusive establishment for people who visit Korea to participate in KOICA's government-sponsored training programs. All orientation and training programs offered by KOICA take place at the ICC. Most participants of training programs conducted in Seoul will stay here for the duration of their time in Korea. We believe that the ICC will play a key role in meeting the increasing needs of partner countries and in enhancing the efficiency of the training programs at KOICA. We would like to request your kind cooperation to ensure a pleasant stay at the center. We hope you have a comfortable time at the ICC. 02 / 03

KOICA's Training Program The primary objective of the program is to help partner countries secure human resources for their development. Policy makers and technical staff of partner countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and CIS member states are invited to learn about the development experience of Korea and acquire new technical and managerial skills. Based on these objectives, KOICA has provided various types of training to some 32,176 people from 160 countries since 1991 in the following areas; education, health, governance, rural development, information and communications technology, industry and energy, environment and gender. KOICA is focusing on transferring lessons learned from its own development process and its technological expertise to developing countries through the expansion and upgrade of human resources. Korea presents a powerful example of how capacity building through human resources development can push the development process forward. Recently, KOICA has made efforts to diversify its training program by providing courses in developing countries or through joint efforts with international organizations. KOICA's invitational training programs are designed to encourage a dynamic sharing of Korea's development experiences, expertise, and lessons learned.

Emergency Procedures It is most unlikely that you will ever be involved in a fire emergency. However, please take a moment to read this. It will provide you with basic information necessary to make sound judgements in the unlikely event of a center emergency. Every fire is different. In many cases, the first rule may be to leave the building as quickly as you can. In other cases, you may be safer in your room. Whether you decide to go or stay, here are some tips you should keep in mind. Precautions As soon as you get to your room, locate the two nearest fire exits. Count the number of doors from your room to the fire exit since you may have to find that fire exit "blind" in a dark or smoke-filled hallway. Always put your room key in the same place. This will save time in an emergency when you don't have time to search for your key. Getting out Always grab your key first. If fire or smoke blocks your exit, you can always return to your room. Stay low or crawl, even in your room, to cause less damage to your eyes and lungs. Before opening, feel the door. If it's hot, there may be fire or super heated gas in the doorway. If it's cool, prepare yourself to be ready to close the door immediately, should there be a blast of smoke or flames when you open it. Slowly open the door, keeping your face away from the opening until you are sure it is safe to look out. Then check the hallway. Close the door as you leave the room. This will help keep the fire from spreading and it will protect your belongings from possible smoke and water damage. Leave your possessions as they'll only slow you down. Make your way to the fire exit. Never use the elevator. Bend low or crawl. Keep to the side of the hall. This way you can count the number of doors to the fire exit. You will also prevent injury to yourself or to others. In the stairwell, walk down holding the handrail. This protects you against others who knock you down while hurrying out. Be prepared to retreat. You may enter a fire exit stairwell that is clear on the upper floors, only to find thick smoke as you go down. Don't try to force your way through. Go back to your room or to the floor. In your room, fill the bath tub with water. Stuff wet sheets or towels around cracks in the door to keep out smoke. If the door becomes hot, stand a wet mattress up against it. Breathe through a wet cloth. Open the window, but be prepared to close it if smoke gets in. Before you break a window to let in fresh air, consider that you might let in more smoke instead. Use the telephone to inform the reception desk, police, or the fire department of where you are. If you jump from any level higher than the second floor, you are unlikely to survive the fall.
