Basic Information: Location Summer Day Camp will be held at Ford s Farm in Savannah,MO (Directions are included as a separate attachment) Date and Times: Thursday June 23rd from 6:30 pm to 8:30pm Friday June 24th Saturday June 23rd from 8 am to 4:30 pm Pony Express Council, Robidoux District 2016 Day Camp Things you shouldn t forget! Please be respectful of the Fords Farm Recreation Area and its grounds. This way when it is time for you to leave it won t take as long to clean up! All campers (Leaders and Scouts) will wear the assigned colored wrist bands at all times. Open toed shoes are not allowed at Day Camp, so please wear the proper footwear at all times. All prescription medication shall be checked in with the onsite Nurse and administered by our Health Officer or under their observation. All Scouts and Leaders should be walking to and from all activity areas. Please maintain 2 deep leadership at all times. No matter the age, use the buddy system! Please pay special attention to all announcements you may hear from your staff it just might be something important! We have male and female Leaders at Day Camp, so please take that into consideration when you enter the latrines. Knock before you attempt to enter. Everyone must check in and out of camp not only with your Pack, but with at the Registration tent whenever they arrive or leave during the camping session. This allows us to keep track of who is in camp in case of an emergency, as well as for security.

Alcoholic Beverages, Drugs and Narcotics Alcohol is not allowed on the grounds of the Fords Farm. Prescription Drugs or narcotics are only allowed with a prescription and must be checked in with the onsite Nurse or in a locked container under adult supervision. Tobacco Do not smoke or use tobacco around the campers. It is preferred that you do not smoke at all at Day Camp. If you do need to take a smoke break, please do so outside of the view of the campers, including your own child. Make sure that the campers are left with adequate supervision (two deep leadership) when you take your break. Swearing and Abusive Language There is no place at any Scouting function for swearing and abusive language. It will not be tolerated from the boys and it will not be tolerated from the staff and/or leaders. Using profanity will be cause for a fine! Remember: A Scout is Clean. Count the Campers Constantly Always know where they are. Make sure all are accounted for. Firearms, Knives, etc. Absolutely NO FIREARMS are allowed at Day Camp. No pocket type or craft knives will be allowed at day camp and no youth members will be in possession of either unless under direct supervision during an activity requiring its use. If in possession of a pocket knife a Scout must have his Whittling Chip and show proof, if asked. No fireworks are allowed. No other devices or weapons which could inflict a wound on a person or animal or nature will be allowed at camp. Stay hydrated Keep your water bottle close by at all times. Be a good example. When you ask your campers to take a drink, you should take two. Be a good sport, and be prepared. Last minute changes may be necessary. Be a positive role model for your campers by showing them that getting along with others and being flexible is a good thing. Practice what you preach and be a good example! Flag Rules Show respect to our American Flag by standing quietly and saluting during flag ceremonies. The boys forget sometimes we need to set a good example and remind them when necessary. The camp T shirt is our uniform so it is proper to use the Cub Scout salute. Please remind boys to remove all non Scout hats during the flag ceremony. Boy Rules we have established S (Safety) rules hopefully, it will help the boys to remember. Stay with your Buddy. Stay within the boundaries of camp. Shoes always wear them. Slow down run only during games where it is needed. Sanitation wash your hands before you eat and obey proper dining rules, trash Sticks leave them on the ground. Stones Leave them with the sticks. Snakes Leave them alone, and they will leave you alone. Stuff Stay out of other people s stuff. Observe the Outdoor Code at all times. As an American, I will do my best to Be clean in my outdoor manners, Be careful with fire, Be considerate in the outdoors, and Be conservation minded.

Directions

Check In Procedures Upon arriving at the Fords Farm Recreation Area, you will be met by a member of the support staff and they will direct you to where you may either park for the day or to drop off your Scout. Once parked, please make your way to the Registrar s area, which will be located in the north corner parking lot. If you are dropping off your son and not staying for camp: 1. You MUST have a pre arranged agreement with your unit leader or unit representative for camp. Once your son is signed in and dropped off, your son will need to stay with that leader or representative. The Directors and Support Staff will not be able to watch your Scout. 2. You MUST proceed with your Scout to the Registrar s area. You will receive a wrist band for yourself and your Scout. You must sign both security bands and only you will be able to pick your son up at the end of camp. You must be wearing your wrist band and it will be checked against your Scout s wristband for a match. If someone other than the parent dropping off the Scout will be picking the Scout up, you must speak to the Registrar. Once your Scout is checked in and you both receive a wristband, your Scout can then be put into the care of the pre arranged unit representative. Only one leader from each unit attending camp will be actually checking in for your unit. Do not enter the Registrar s area unless you need medical assistance. Once the Registrar announces sign ins can start, your unit leader for the day will enter the area and proceed through the line to receive their information, and t shirts for the day. Questions will be answered at this time, but try to limit the number of questions to ensure other units can check in. A recommendation is if you have a lot of questions; perhaps make your way to the end of the line. Or, contact the Director s prior to arrival. You need to be assembling as a unit prior to check in. Parents dropping of their Scout MUST do so to a recognized unit leader from your unit. If your son is attending Camp by himself, without a unit, you must speak to a Registrar. The Registrar will gladly assist you and help place the boy into a unit for the day. All Scouts and registered parents/leaders that will be staying for Camp MUST have a filled out Form A and B of the Annual Health and Medical Record. If your son will be taking medications while at Camp, the parent MUST see the on site nurse. Do not leave your son with his medication and leave the grounds without speaking to the nurse! If your son did not get registered by the deadline, he may not receive a t shirt the day of camp.

Check Out Procedures Any Scout, Leader, Parent or visitor arriving on camp grounds, MUST check in and out at the Registrar s area. The Day Camp Staff are responsible for the safety of each person attending camp and must have an accurate record of who is on site and who is not. Periodically staff will conduct a head count and what they have on paper must match those on site. If you are picking up your Scout, remember you must sign out your scout and present proper photo identification. Safety of our Scouts is our number 1 priority. What to Bring and Not to Bring to Day Camp Here is a list of what your Scout is recommended to bring to camp with him: Completed Parts A & B of the Annual Medical Form, emergency phone numbers, sunscreen or sun block, mosquito spray, old sneakers, hat, any medications for the day. You are recommended to contact your on site leader before camp and perhaps arrange for just one bottle of sunscreen/sun block and mosquito spray to be on hand to reduce the amount of items your son will bring to camp. What NOT to bring: pets, bad attitudes, game devices and youth cell phones or media devices. This is a time to have fun outside and enjoy nature, not to be playing electronic games and texting. Activity Areas and Descriptions Archery Learning basic shooting skills. Opportunity to earn the Archery Belt Loop. Opportunity to earn the Pin if requirements have been completed. May not be able to complete all requirements at camp. For more information refer to the Cub Scouts Sports and Academic Guide. Certificate issued. BB Gun Top Shot Learn the beginning skills, safety, and rules for BB Gun Shooting. Will earn the BB Gun Shooting Belt Loop and will complete some requirements for the Pin. Remaining Pin requirements to be completed on your own. Certificate issued. Boot Camp Obstacle Course A good agent can maneuver around obstacles to complete their mission. Can you make it? Medics Station Even the best agents can get hurt and you always have to be able to take care of your partner. Basic introductory first aid for outdoors will be discussed and demonstrated. Time permitting, Scouts will use their learned skills to perform first aid.

Down Time An agent needs some downtime once in a while to be at the top of their game! Scouts will be joined by the Missouri Department of Conservation to learn the ins and outs of fishing. Mission Preparation In order for an investigator to do their job, there has to be some preparation work. We ll have crafts to make sure each agent has the tools they need to be prepared! Clue Hunt Hike Leave No Trace Do you know what to take with you on a hike? What is the difference between hiking and backpacking? What are the principles of Leave No Trace you should be observing on every hike? Find out as you work toward the Hiking Belt Loop and complete some requirements towards Leave No Trace. You will also observe your surroundings and investigate a crime! Parachute Powerhouse Scouts will get to cut loose and attempt many exciting games working as a team real parachute. No known requirements or electives known to be met, just fun to be had. Forensics Lab What s the point of collecting clues if you don t know how to read them? Our investigators receive the best training in chromatography, fingerprints, and reading imprints. Slingshot Duck Hunt Have you ever played Duck Hunt? We have our own version. Step to the line and show your Slingshot skills to pummel our ducks. Don t worry, it s all in fun, and the ducks won t feel a thing. Who is it?! Fun guess who type games to help us read evidence. ***Please remember we cannot complete all requirements or electives at camp. It is up to the boys, leaders, and parents to help each Scout complete. We will give you the tools to let you keep track of what they have accomplished. Please also use the sports and academic guide to assist with completion!***
