President s Announcements: President Rod opened the meeting and welcomed members of the Rotary Clubs of Sale, Sale Central and Yarram and members of the Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club. After main course President Rod reminded us of the upcoming Rotary Caravan group visit to Sale soon and to check details in the bulletin. He then asked club members interested in participating in Relay for Life with Sale Central to speak to Les Jackson. The event is being held on the 25 th of March. Rod congratulated Sale Central on winning the Wellington Shire Community Award for the Monday Tucker project. He then announced that a bank transfer of $1,000 would be made to the Seaspray Club as a donation towards the continuing work of the club. Rod then invited Presidents Raj Mani from Sale Central and Rob Davies of Yarram for club announcements. President Raj singled out Michael Page and Andrew Bradley as particularly praiseworthy for their organisation and untiring work to make Monday Tucker work every week. President Rob invited guests interested to join Yarram Club on an excursion to Sunday Island next weekend. The club acknowledges the death of PP David Strauss s father and offers any support required at this sad time for the family. Your scribe for this meeting was lucky enough to sit with President Rob and discovered that he is a veteran Rotarian of 40 years service. In fact, in his very early days in Rotary he attended the charter meeting of Sale Central in the old Airmen s Mess at East Sale in 1977. He was originally from Yallourn and his parents told him he was found in a briquette bag. Sergeant: Guest Speakers: President James Brown thanked Rotary for the continuing support and invited two young lifesavers, Stephanie Howson and Rebecca McKay, to address the meeting. Supported by great action video taken from the back of their surf boat, they told us about the development of their under 19 girls crew. They have participated in several carnivals already with mixed results but their future is bright. The girls were very appreciative of the support and encouragement they received from club members. In thanking the girls and closing the meeting President Rod remarked that although youth crime was a predominant media issue currently, the numbers of good young people like Stephanie and Rebecca vastly outnumbered the miscreants. A credit to SSLSC John and Ian haven t changed a bit since Apex days
