Editor Sunil Perera MENS SHED STRATHMORE From President Lisa On Monday 20/10/2014 the Moonee Valley City Council, with support from the Rotary Clubs of Essendon, Essendon Nth and Strathmore, held a Come and Try Strathmore Mens Shed Day at the Strathmore Community Centre. Past Mayor Narelle Sharp opened the day with enthusiasm and support of the Mens Sheds programme. A number of people came along to have a go and make a planter box which they were able to take home with them. For many it was the first time they had ever held a drill including Gwen Mollica. (Well done Mum xxx) And as the majority of those who wanted to have a try were women so I am confident that at least one session a week when the Shed is built will be a Sheila s Shed session. One young girl also attended so I see great potential for a youth session with the more mature attendees in a mentoring style programme. It would provide for really satisfying and marvellous experiences for all involved. Our club is full steam ahead with raising funds to build the Mens Shed so throw your support behind our events and then take advantage of being able to attend a great place to socialise, keep your hands and minds busy and access great health information all while have a great time with friends HELP REQUIRED AT CLUB MEETINGS The Club Services Committee needs people to help pack up the room after each meeting. Please help if you are able to stay after the conclusion of the meeting. Trivia night see page 9 Please register and pay at the front desk for the trivia night. Auction items are still required for the major and silent auction. Please come along and support this club activity. Helpers required to set up on the morning of 24 October, please contact Cathy or Shirley if you can spare a few minutes.

Membership Proposals: The following people have been nominated for membership. Tammy Willenberg ( Business Strategist ), Des Malcom ( Breathometer Manufacturing ) and Albert Cavallo ( Breathometer Sales ). If there any objections could they please be with Secretary Rob by COB November 4, 2014. POTENTIAL MEMBER NOMINATIONS If you are nominating a potential member, please provide all information requested in the proposal form on page 47 of the Club directory. GOLF DAY see page 7 & 8 The Paul McDonald Real Estate - Rotary Club of Essendon Golf Day is being held on Tuesday 25 November. The day will raise funds for the Club s project account, enabling us to support a wide variety of projects in our community. For the day to be a success we need the support of members and friends to play golf and or sponsor a golf hole. Further details are shown below. Please contact Michael Mahoney or Glenn Smith if you would like to play or sponsor. Thank you to Paul McDonald for, once again, providing great support to our Club. CLUB ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING TUESDAY 11 NOVEMBER The agenda for the AGM is required to be issued at least seven days before the meeting. If you want an issue included on the agenda, please provide details to Secretary Rob Thomas by 4 November. Report on the Bill Early Memorial Trophy 20 Essendon Rotary Club members and friends took on a similar number from Essendon North Rotary Club in a 10 pin bowling competition at Highpoint Bowl to defend the Bill Early Memorial Trophy. (Bill Early, a member of Essendon Rotary, was President in 1971-72 and was instrumental in helping to establish the Essendon North Rotary Club). There were many and varied styles and scores on the night, with plenty of gutter balls, spares and strikes. Some hit the deck on the follow through, some hurt shoulders, some learnt that fried food & bowling don t mix and one female bowler had a system that involved a sip of wine, a massage and some encouragement in order to bring out her best. It was a hard fought contest, with everybody bowling 2 games, (or 4 in Grant Stephenson s case), and at the end there were less than 10 points in it, (Essendon North were scoring so this is yet to be verified). Margie Sheldon had the best score on the night with 4 strikes at the end of her game to finish with 200. There was lots of fun and laughter on the night and some rediscovered old talents so we may even contest it again next year. Essendon s team Margie & Kyle Sheldon, Richard & Jennifer Lawrence, Maria & John Kouppas, John, Jane & Michelle Odgers, Steve & Pam Chandler, Michael & Svitlana Mahoney, Peter Baker, Alf Puglia, Denis Kosnar, Andrew Ha, Grant Stephenson, Mark Chandler & our Exchange student Ellen.
