(Did we even have a winter?) What a great February we had! The Valentine Dinner as well as the Mardi Gras event was amazing, I hope y all enjoyed yourselves at those events. A special thanks to Mike Pope and his team, Rachel Gonzales, Rick Gonzales, Mike Pope, Alex Cortez, Cole Simecek, Diane Venable, Janice Steed & Pati Dukett and her team for these great events. All the hard work everyone puts into making these events happen at the Lodge are much appreciated. March is going to be an opportunity for you to enjoy and appreciate the new, Beer and Wine Garden on the west side of the Lodge property. The Upkeep and Preservation Committee (UPC) has done a fantastic job of sprucing up the area (see article on page 3). You can help by donating to their go fund me account and/or attending the upcoming Flavors of Spain fundraiser. Donations for this project will go towards purchasing new picnic tables and various other items that will make that area, the place to hang out this summer! I hope you all have a great March! VOLUNTEERS ARE UPKEEPING and UPDATING The Upkeep and Preservation Committee (UPC) has had a VERY busy month working each Saturday on various projects around the High Road. Some of the updates around the Lodge include: new pool gate new fence around the west side of the property trimmed the large oak in the back side moved the smoker repainted the fire lane removed two of the old chain-link fences preparing the west field for tables, decks, lighting and many more projects just waiting for you to help! This grassy area will allow people to get away from the pool deck in the summer and enjoy some shade under the trees. This is an all volunteer effort and it is mostly funded by volunteers. 4 FuNDRAISER Amplify Austin, I Live Here, I Give Here Lodge member Joan Klasson known for her Small Wonders Puppet Theater is embarking on a totally new and exciting creation. A show, specifically designed for senior citizens and memory care patients! The production includes some very high quality, sculpted puppets, who s actions and manipulations tell the story without words...just the music of their generation. With signature puppet, Murray the Musician, at the lead, we plan to build an ensemble cast of vintage-like puppets who are... All About the Music. On March 8-9 Small Wonders will be taking donations for this new program. These people really need, engagement, entertainment and joy! The elderly can, so often, be a forgotten community. 5th Annual Mardi Gras Party! We had a wild fun-filled Mardi Gras party. 100+ partiers attended and were adorned in feathers, beads, and outrageous outfits. The band, Gumbo Ce Soir, was awesome and the homemade Cajun food was out-of-this-world. Couldn't have asked for better weather. Many many people enjoyed the lodge's incredible view. Thank you so so much to the volunteers who helped make the party a success. Lodge members coming together and making things happen is what it's all about! 7
