Team 110 DisneyIlha (Portuguese for DisneyIsle) at Ilha Grande, Brazil Bemvidos a DisneyIlha! DisneyIsle, originally Ilha Grande, is a 70 sq. mile island located 60 miles from Rio de Janeiro, one of the most populated, visited and developed cities in Brazil. Tourists arrive at Rio s airport and Disney provides transportation to the resorts and theme park. The island is undeveloped and noted for its scenic beauty, consisting of tropical beaches, rich rainforest, rugged landscape and over 150 km of hiking trails. Its year-round tropical climate allows for the park to be open through winter and makes it the perfect destination for a family getaway vacation. From the business perspective, Brazil is the ideal country to invest in. DisneyIsle makes it more feasible for Disney to reach the growing South American market. Brazil is the 9 th largest country in the world, the most populated one in South America and it borders a total of 10 countries/territories. Its population is over 200,000,000 people, out of which 30% are kids and teens 0-14 years old. Brazil s economy is thriving and its tourism is rising rapidly because the nation is hosting major international events like the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics. Brazilians are greatly accustomed to American culture and the Disney experience; they are the third most popular nationality to visit the parks and commonly speak Portuguese, Spanish and English. Disney has already launched an initiative directed to Brazil and the Latin market with the Disney Brazil Channel and the upcoming Princess Sofia. The island will be the new destination for 2-week cruises out of the Port of Miami (Disney s new port-of-call). DisneyIsle is roadless, off-limits to cars and only accessible by local ferries and catamarans. It showcases a new kind of eco-friendly theme park. Transportation through the developed portion of the island consists solely of electric monorails. Disney is dedicated to conserving the natural ecologies in the island and creating a sanctuary for all local species and sea life. Story behind the design DisneyIsle merges the magic of sea and land with the ingenuity and innovation of Imagineers. DisneyIsle began with Walt s interest for nature and his 1940 s trip south of the border. The documentary Walt & El Grupo shows the South American expedition and the fascination which sparked Walt s initial dream and idea for DisneyIsle. From here DisneyIsle became home to Disney s Wildlife Preserve and this unique development. The wildlife preserve is sponsored by the Brazilian government and is dedicated to protect many species native to the island. As the design flourished, the endless opportunities of this isolated paradise became apparent to Imagineers. At the center of the theme park lies the Beauty and Beast Castle embedded into the natural formations of the island, the connection between the site and castle is undeniable. Apart from the preserve, the park is divided into four other different lands. Each land is suggestive of their story, Enchanted Forest, Adventureland, Colonia Bonita and Pixar Planet. Sustainability and eco-friendly objectives were driving factors in the design. Brazilian culture also influenced the development. The main icon is the lighthouse at the tip of the island signaling guests on ferries or cruises that they have arrived to DisneyIsle... Guest Experience DisneyIsle offers a range of adventures for audiences of all ages. It is unquestionably appealing for a family reunion, but it also inviting of newlyweds for their honeymoon and teens looking for a good time. It is a merge of Adventures by Disney meets Magic Kingdom. The guests not only get to be part of the Disney magic but they appreciate the nature surrounding them. The park is on the coast of the island; guests get a view of the sea from almost everywhere, enhancing their leisure and vacation time. The concentrated location of the facilities allow for guests to experience nature, a resort stay and the park attractions within all at the same time. DisneyIsle accommodates the family looking for a week vacation as well as the locals who are just visiting for the day. For cruise guests, DisneyIsle has a private beach adjacent to the dock and cruise terminal that acts much like Castaway Key in the Caribbean with waterrelated activities. Guests have the opportunity to also visit the park for a day. For researchers and nature lovers the Disney Wildlife Preserve allows for selected private excursions through partnerships with certain education institutions or prior arrangements.
