About the Airport Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, located in Mesa, Arizona is recognized as one of the fastest growing small hub airports in the United States and has earned a reputation for being a "just plane easy " commercial alternative to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The Airport serves 39 cities with non-stop service via Allegiant Air. Over 1.3 million passengers used Gateway Airport in 2015. By 2024, Gateway is projected to see more than 2 million passengers annually. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is owned and operated by the Phoenix- Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. The Authority currently consists of the City of Mesa, Town of Gilbert, Town of Queen Creek, Gila River Indian Community, City of Phoenix, and City of Apache Junction. Operated by a staff of 121 employees, the Airport has a current operating budget of over $18 million and a current capital budget of $18.6 million dollars. In 2015, the Airport accommodated more than 222,000 takeoffs and landings, making it the 43rd busiest airport in the United States, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The Airport is home to more than 50 companies and contributes more than $1.3 billion annually to the Arizona economy. With three long runways, 1,000 acres within the airport s planning area, direct freeway access, and a supportive political climate; Gateway Airport is the centerpiece of the Phoenix East Valley. Gateway Airport has begun preliminary work, including an Environmental Assessment on land that will accommodate a future expanded passenger terminal facility. p a g e 2

A variety of exciting events are held in Gold Canyon and the Superstition Mountain area throughout the year including the Canyon Arts Festival and ongoing Farmers Market. Arizona s only Renaissance Festival comes every spring and boasts attendance figures into the hundreds of thousands over the two month event. Gold Canyon shoppers have a variety of shops to choose from including multiple art galleries. Hiking trails abound throughout the Gold Canyon area. Over 350 miles of improved trails exist in the adjacent Tonto National Forest. The forest is home to the Superstition Mountain s famous Flat Iron, a towering peak of over 5,000 feet that overlooks the entire city of Phoenix. Experience The Culture Museums and attractions are not to be missed. For a uniquely Southwestern experience, stroll through the Desert Botanical Garden to see desert plants, or visit the Heard Museum for Native American art and culture. If it's contemporary art you seek, the Phoenix Art Museum and SMOCA are for you. Also the Arizona Science Center hands-on exhibits, the Phoenix Zoo and the Dorrance Planetarium are must-dos. Education Education in the East Valley Region is a key economic driver and determinant of the region s quality of life. Education is a priority for East Valley residents and they are served by world-class institutions, key industry partnerships and a strong culture of learning. Arizona State University and Chandler Gilbert Community College are located within walking distance of Gateway Airport Serving over 10,000 students with plans to grow by 50%. The percentage of the population age 25+ that have earned a bachelor s degree or higher is 33% while the national average is 28%. Get Outdoors The region provides one of the lushest and most colorful deserts in the world, and rugged mountains define the city's horizon. In winter, sunshine warms hiking and biking trails. Sporting Events & Activities In The East Valley & Greater Phoenix Region There s always a game happening in the area, which is home to the Arizona State University Sun Devils and University of Arizona Wildcats as well as five professional teams - and the fans that support them. The Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB) play in Chase Field, while the Phoenix Suns (NBA) and Phoenix Mercury (WNBA) run the court in US Airways Center, and with both venues downtown Phoenix, getting around is easy. The Arizona Cardinals (NFL) and Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) play at University of Phoenix Stadium and Jobing.com Arena respectively, and they are neighbors in the West Valley. The Waste Management Phoenix Open is the well-attended tournament on the PGA Tour. The biggest names in golf play the tournament every year at the TPC Scottsdale in early February. Cactus League Spring Training showcases 15 teams within miles of each other, so you can see the biggest names in the MLB up-close. Sit in readily available stadium or lawn seats and have the chance to get your memorabilia signed by your favorite player. Cactus Leagues lasts the month of March each year. The NASCAR series comes to town twice a year, with the Subway Fresh Fit 500 in February and the Kobalt Tools 500 in November. The Position Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Deputy Director is responsible for administration and managerial duties overseeing and guiding departments and special projects to ensure that the policies and objectives of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) are achieved in a safe, effective, efficient, and professional manner. The Deputy Director manages, directs, and supports the daily operations of major support and operating functions of the Airport; supervises staff and activities of various departments; identifies, analyses, and executes policies, programs, and procedures to enhance the operation and efficiency of Gateway; assists the leadership team in formulating business strategy and assumes the responsibilities of the Executive Director during his/her absence. The Deputy Director will have the ability to effectively communicate with the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) Board, the general public, project contractors, vendors, management, public officials, and Gateway staff in order to complete various planning and projects. He/she will maintain effective working relationships with staff, tenants, customers, vendors, and the general public and make oral presentations in public and internal meetings. Further, the Deputy Director facilitates team projects and coaches team members. The Ideal Candidate PMGAA seeks a progressive, decisive member for the leadership team of one of the fastest growing Airports in the United States. The ideal candidate has professional and practical aviation experience, with the background and achievements which will assist in moving PMGAA forward with its future operational and capital goals and who has a proven track record of earning the respect and trust of internal and external stakeholders. To be considered, candidates must have any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Aviation Management, or a closely related field. A Master s Degree is preferred. Candidates must also have extensive experience in directing or assisting in the direction of airport operations and activities, including supervisory responsibilities.
