See our web page at www.roadrunnersrvclub.com NEWS LETTER OF THE SUN LA KES ROA DRU NNE RS RV CL UB Roadrunner News February 2017 President s Message February 8, 2017 It s really starting to warm up! And with that our rally season starts to swing into high gear. Thanks to the Meyer s, the Wheeldon s, and Rich Pavlik and Betty Lauer another highly successful Quartzsite rally has just been concluded. I understand that it was a little chilly outside at the Happy Hours, but the camaraderie and food more than made up for it. Look for some rally pictures to turn up shortly on the website. On another note it s now February and some other activities are under way. This month at the club meeting I ll be naming a nominating committee to seek out officers for next year s activities. With Pat Prekel offering to return as secretary, we will need to nominate an incoming President, Vice President, and Treasurer for 2017-18. If you have interest in any of these offices, please contact me and I ll put the committee in touch with you. The Club only exists because of members like you and we need leaders to stand up and help out, just like our volunteer Wagon masters. Also, in early April we will have our annual Spring Fling, probably at Sisk Park in Palo Verde. There will be lots of food, a bocce ball contest, and a golf putting contest on the 9 hole course. So be looking in the next Newsletter for the notice of date and time in early April. Bill Hatcher, our most capable Vice President, will be putting the event together. That s it for now. See you at the meeting on the 14 th! Mike Skibo Editor s Comments: If any of the e-mail addresses or phone numbers listed in this newsletter are in error, please notify me. If anyone changes their e-mail address, please notify me, so you will continue to receive the news-letter. Thank you Ruby Meyer E-Mail: LMeyer829@aol.com Phone: 480-802-6601 or cell 480-229-3111 The deadline for the March letter is March 7, 2017. news Wagon Masters send me information as early as possible on your upcoming rallies for inclusion in the news letter. Hopefully the information will generate more interest in the rally. IT PAYS TO ADVERTISE. The newsletter is published monthly eight times a year, October through May, by the Sun Lakes RV Club. This club is a nonprofit organization established to provide opportunities for fraternization of Sun Lakes and surrounding area residents whom are interested in RV activities through club meetings and club campout rallies. It is not connected with any commercial or private business. An annual club membership of $20.00 (per person) entitles the members to participate in club social events, club campout rallies and subscription to the newsletter. February 2017 Page 3 Sun Lakes Roadrunners RV Club Board Meeting Minutes January 5, 2017 Bill Hatcher, Vice President, brought the meeting to order at 3 PM. In attendance were Bert Geiger, Treasurer, and Pat Prekel, Secretary. Mike Skibo, President, attended the meeting via telephone. Bert Geiger provided each person with a copy of two treasurers reports, one for rallies and one for administration. He also provided a membership roster which indicated if members had paid the current years dues or not. Current roster was up to 74 members. Discussion of the following topics followed. 1. The audit had been postponed due to illness. Mike Skibo encouraged Bert Geiger to make other arrangements so that the audit could be completed quickly. 2. A list of unpaid members was to be forwarded to Barb Clark, Membership, so she could follow up with those members in order to keep them from being dropped from the roster. 3. Room rental - Bert Geiger reported that the room rental is presently $350.00 for 7 months use. He was told the fee was going to increase. Based on that informa on and the fact that the service provided was lacking, Bert Geiger and Mike Skibo agreed to meet with Phase 1 to discuss price and services. It was suggested that we might want to check into Co onwood and/or Palo Verde. Bill Hatcher discussed the Benson Rally stating that the deposit must be paid at the January meeting since a payment is due to the RV Park by late January. This information was provided to Ruby Meyer and published in the recent Newsletter so all members should be aware of the payment due. After the meeting, Bill Hatcher will send Ruby Meyer the names of any one who still needs to provide a check so Ruby can email those individuals. Bill Hatcher indicated that tours have not been scheduled for the Benson rally since the information pertaining to what is available will be provided to the attendees at the January meeting. Mike Skibo mentioned that it might be necessary to schedule the mine tour in advance or it may not be available. Bill Hatcher will be bringing the white boards that he has set up for each rally so members can see the information at the January meeting. The scheduled rallies are as follows: (Continued on Next Page)

February 2017 Page 4 1 Quartzsite, January 24-26, 2017 2 Benson, February 23 25, 2017 Payment due at January mee ng 3 Lake Havasu, March 4 Lake Powell, April 26-30, 2017, Deposits due, side trips to be determined 5 Exit Rally, June 2 12, 2017 Still need rallies planned for October and November Mike Skibo brought up the Spring Fling which should be discussed at the January meeting. We need to determine a date, last year it was April 5, 2016. We need volunteers to plan the event and to reserve Sisk Park. In the past, chicken has been provided. Attendees bring a dish to pass. The budget for this event in 2016 was $300.00 but the expenses were only $160.00. Mike Skibo finished the meeting by reminding those present that election of officers will be taking place again in Spring. He suggested that new officers be provided with a welcome packet which includes information that helps to make them aware of budgeted and expense items. The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 PM. Respectfully submitted, Pat Prekel, Secretary

February 2017 Page 5 Roadrunners Club Meeting January 10, 2017 President Mike Skibo opened the meeting at 6:50 PM by introducing the executive board. All new members and visitors were welcomed. He then reviewed the mission statement of the Roadrunners Club. Mike congratulated Anna Gay Pahlow and Sharon O Brien for a very successful Christmas Dinner/Dance. Mike reported that the audit of the administrative account had been completed. The audit of the rally account is to be completed soon. The Oakwood patrol seems to be having issues with RV owners who do not notify them when they will be bringing an RV to park on the street. Mike encouraged all club members to be diligent about following the HOA rules for parking an RV on the street. Treasurer s Report Bert Geiger explained that we have 2 separate accounts. The administrative account covers expenses such as the storage unit for club equipment, meeting room rental, welcome back meeting/pizza party, Spring Fling and a portion of the Christmas dinner. The rally account is self-funding but there is a small reserve there in case it is needed by Rally Masters while planning a rally. Committee Reports: Membership Remember to pay your dues if you have not done so or your name will be removed from the roster. Barb Clark and Julie Jarvi reported that the club roster is really growing. They introduced the following guests: Dwight and Julie Hodges, Duane and Joan Garceau, Alisa Padgett and Michael Rosenhiem. They also introduced the following new member: Edna Joss. I apologize for any misspellings or omissions. Newsletter Ruby Meyer had nothing to report. Mike congratulated her for the great job she does on the newsletter. Website Mike reminded members and guests that there is a lot of information available on the club website. Equipment Mike reported that Greg Zarnick manages the club equipment but was not present at the meeting. Refreshments Pat Prekel reminded everyone that there was a sign-up sheet on the refreshment table. Volunteers are needed to supply refreshments for the meetings. Rally and Event Planning Rallies Bill Hatcher, Vice President, reported that rallies are designed to have many members participate. It is getting difficult to obtain reservations for a large number of RVs so we need to plan more in advance. There are three meetings left before summer where we can plan October and November rallies and possibly some into winter. Bill encouraged all members to come with ideas. Bill had Rally Masters give updates. Quartzsite is January 24-26. Leonard Meyer reported that plans are in order. He reminded participants that they will be paying for the camping upon arrival, $8.00/night. Bring firewood. (Continued on Next Page)

February 2017 Page 6 Benson is February 23-25, Clarks and Hatchers are hosting. Bill Hatcher reported that participants will be receiving emails concerning golf and tours. Ron Doggett reported that there will be a corned beef and cabbage dinner and a Rally Master breakfast. There are many things to do there, for example, a river boat tour which is about five hours and costs about $40.00/person, off road ATV races and a ferry boat to the casino. Deposits will be collected at the February meeting. Lake Powell is April 26 30. Mike Skibo reported that there are many things to see and do there such as Glen Canyon Dam Tour, Antelope Canyon Slot Tour, Dinner Theater Show, Arch Bridge Boat Tour, golf for the golfers and even Colorado river raft rides. A deposit of $250.00 will be due at the March meeting. Rocky Point, Playa Bonita will be in mid-may. Contact Barb and Jim Clark if you are interested. Exit Rally, California coast, June 2 12, Walbys and Carlstroms are hosting. Participants must be Elks Club members since portions of the rally will include stays at Elks Clubs. There is a waiting list for this rally. Spring Fling Bill Hatcher is responsible for this event and will contact members who have worked on it before in order to obtain a reservation at Sisk Park Pavilion. New Business One member is interested in establishing a list of members who are retired military since they may be able to organize a rally at military RV parks. A sign-up sheet was used to gather this information. Tailtwister Jim Ruddy collected monies from a few members who forgot to wear their badges. There were also a few sad tales of RV troubles. Pot O Gold Jim Clark was happy to announce three pots of $28.00 each. The meeting was adjourned at 7:53 P.M Respectfully submitted, Pat Prekel, Secretary
