TABLE 1: Built Resources (BHR) and Cultural Heritage Landscapes (CHL) Within and Adjacent to the West Whitby Secondary Plan Area Site # 1. CHL Recreational 300 Taunton Road West, north side Cullen Central Park Former Cullen Gardens was opened as an attraction in May of 1980, and expanded east of the Lynde Creek to the Mitchell property in the mid-1980s. The Mitchell house was later relocated to the west half of the Cullen land holdings as part of a street of historic residences salvaged from other places and relocated to the site. The municipally designated Lynde House was relocated to the site. The buildings remain unoccupied at present. At its peak, the site included 36- acres of show gardens, retail shops, the renowned miniature village, banquet and picnic facilities, children s daycamp, and a full service restaurant. A Wildflower Garden featuring more than 250 species of native Ontario plants, a pond and walking trails was established in the valley in the mid-1990s. The Town of Whitby purchased Cullen Central Park in 2006. Lynde House municipally designated. 2. BHR Residential 380 Taunton Road West, north side View obscured from roadside by vegetation. 2 storey brick residence with a hip roof, stone lintels and voussoirs and corner bay. 3. CHL Agricultural 540 Taunton Road West, north side. Including a mid 19 th century brick residence, 1½ storey, brick, side gable roof, 3 bays with a central entrance with rectangular transom and sidelights. 4. CHL Agricultural 865 Taunton Road West, south side Includes a south facing farmhouse, 1½ storey with side gable roof. Farmhouse is located to the south of a large gambrel roof barn and silo. Displacement due to 407 East Whitby WDL. 5. CHL Agricultural 880 [?] Taunton Road West, north side, northeast corner of Halls Road intersection. Former Relict farm complex including a barn foundation and silo and remnant orchard, farmhouse demolished. Appears to be location of Charles Bell House built c1810 and municipally listed property. 6. CHL Agricultural 945 Taunton Road West, south side Later 19 th century. 1 ½ storey brick farmhouse with front gable with decorative vergeboard and ell plan with verandah, set close to the road and associated barn complex to southeast with two joined gable barn structures, silo and several outbuildings. 7. BHR Residential 4595 Country Lane, east side 19 th century vernacular residence, 1 ½ storey with a side gable roof, 3 bay front elevation, modern metal siding and sheet metal roofing. 13. BHR Agricultural Lyndebrook Road, northeast of bridge on Heber Down Conservation Area lands. Vacant building on hill overlooking creek, appears to be a small agricultural building with a gambrel roof and board and batten siding. 14. CHL Transportation Coronation Road, north and of Taunton Road West Roadscape Rural paved road with little to no gravel shoulders, grass ditches. South end at Rossland Road has been realigned for railway track. 15.
