You need to let the bank know what days you will be traveling in Spain) Emergency Plan Domestic emergency in Spain - Leaders of group will call the International Division if anything happens in Spain that might be of concern to those in the US. In that case, the International Division will call our emergency number in Spain to find out if the national crisis is having any affect on us. - If something happens in the country and for some reason our group is separated while we are in Spain, all persons will meet at the albergue that is the scheduled stopping place for that day on the itinerary provided, whether or not that albergue has available accommodations. We will stay there until everyone is able to connect. If for some reason 2
the albergue is not a possible meeting point, everyone will call one of two cell phones of trip leaders for alternative plans. No member of our travel group is allowed to go anywhere by his or herself. Always need to go in groups - If there is a need to evacuate, the leaders will be in touch with the US Embassy in Madrid so that they will assist with the evacuation. In the case of an emergency with one of the students Students contact leaders of the group: Jeremiah Gibbs, Frank Bates, Kelly Miller, Jim Williams Medical Emergency If it is a medical emergency, leaders will assess and one of the leaders will accompany student for appropriate treatment. The nearest local hospital will be utilized in the case of emergency. Information will be communicated immediately to International Division. If a student has to return home because of illness or serious injury, one of the leaders will accompany him/her home and the other leader will stay with the rest of the group. If it is time for the group to return home and one of the students has to remain in the hospital because of illness or serious injury, one of the leaders will stay with the student and the other leader will return to the United States with the group. Psychological/emotional issues Same process will be used as for medical emergency Victim of a Crime If one of the leaders or students is the victim of a crime, the local authorities will be contacted and one of the leaders will stay with the student while authorities take appropriate action. The leader will assess whether the student needs to return home and, if so, will accompany him/her. 3
Accused of Committing a Crime If a student or faculty member is accused of committing a crime, the laws of Spain will apply to him/her. Local authorities will be contacted as well as the campus police of the University of Indianapolis. NOTICE: On the way to Spain, we have two groups traveling on different flights.
