Project Search Newsletter April 2015 Past events Upcoming events Shout outs Intern of the week Interns Easter Holidays Positive Quotes In This Issue:

On the weeks of the 20 th 24 th and 27 th 1 st of April/May all of the Project Search interns had their employment planning meetings with their parents. Prior to this, feedback was gathered from the interns buddies to review how they re all getting on in their rotations. The meetings took place in the Graham Hills building in room GH620. On the 1 st of April, there was an information event at the City Chambers. This event shared information about Project Search to young people and their parents who may be interested in applying. Two of the current interns (one from the University of Strathclyde and one from the Victoria Infirmary) gave a presentation about their experiences of Project Search and how it has benefited them. This was well received by all who attended the event. We are pleased to inform you all that Craig Brown has started his new job at Mainstay on the 20 th of April having been successful at his interview on the 30 th of March. He came in on the 23 rd to see us all one last time and for us to say this; (Ross is still waiting to hear his start date but hopefully it won t be long now.)

College Interviews On the 5 th of May interviews will be continuing at the City of Glasgow College for next year s Project Search. Engage with Strathclyde On the 6 th of May, we ll be attending Engage with Strathclyde event at the University. This will be an opportunity for prospective employers to realise the success of Project Search through case studies presented by employers and interns. University Interviews On the 18 th and 20 th of May, there will be interviews for the future Project Search students who were successful at the college interviews. These will be held within the University. Presentation On the 21 st of May, there will be a talk in Fife to young people and parents/professionals to promote Project Search. This has been arranged by ANS. The 5 th of June will mark the end of our journey on Project Search and so, there will be a Graduation day within the University on this day. Invites will be distributed nearer the time. Put the date in your diaries!

Emma Thomson (intern): Presenting at information evening 01.04.2015. David Kelly (intern): from other PS for presenting at information evening. Christine Palmer and Elspeth McCallum, from the City of Glasgow College Industry Academy for carrying out mock interviews with interns prior to the Easter holidays. Elaine Loudon and Linda Soutar: from Sir Robert McAlpine for talk and mock interviews 27.4.15. Stephen McAvoy (Enable) for delivering session on Money advice (24/4/15) 02.04.2015 - Emma Thomson. For speaking well at employers event and also improved her interview skills and application forms. 10 + 17 holidays. 24.04.2015 No One was outstanding that week.

Due to the Easter Break, there weren t too many things that happened this month but many of us have shared what they were up to over the holidays. Hannah Brown I did a show with my theatre group on the first week. We did our production of Little Shop of Horrors which is a musical about a giant plant monster named Audrey II. Or Twoey for short. Until Friday (opening night) & Saturday (closing night), we rehearsed all week, including dress rehearsals, to make sure the show was perfect. I played a customer & a street urchin. The show went brilliantly & was a success. On the second week, I did a bit of shopping with my mum on Monday & bought a few new clothes and a new umbrella & with my dad on Tuesday & bought a new pair of trainers with memory foam from Sketchers & had lunch with him at the Hard Rock Café in Buchanan Street, Glasgow. Michael Warnock During the 1 st 3 days Saturday to Monday I took a break from job searching and did my own things, finishing up my characters and coming up with new ideas and watched Anime s. On Sunday I applied for a WHSmith job, on Tuesday to Friday I did a bit of job searching, found and applied for a Lidl job, but didn t get it. On Sunday to Tuesday I got distracted with doing my characters because I was close to finish it. I was trying to print off lots of CV s, but was having printer problems till Tuesday and printed off 15 CV s and on Wednesday to Saturday I did CV handouts to stores I could do Retail in. During the last 2 days I tried taking a break. Euan McManus During my Easter holidays I met up with friends to see Fast and Furious 7 the movie was brilliant and I also went to the cinema and a day trip to Edinburgh during the holiday as it was a nice day. Christopher Thornton In the first week of my Easter Holidays I went up to West Kilbride with my family and my relatives from England on Easter Sunday and the weather we had was great and had a Chinese Takeaway with the whole family. A Few days later me and my parents went to Blackpool on Wednesday and Fort William on Friday just for the day and I did some job search in between the holidays.. From Thursday to Saturday I travelled down to London by train with my Big Brother and went to Wembley Arena to see the Live Orchestra that was performing live music from a video game series called The Legend of Zelda and absolutely loved the event from start to finish. During London we walked past Trafalgar Square, past Downing Street and walked towards Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. We also went out to Hard Rock Café in London as well as in the Premier Inn at Hanger lane where we stayed. I really enjoyed my time in London with great weather and a great way to end my Easter Holidays. Ross McMillian On the first week I went to Possil Park to see my new job at Hawthorn care home I got a bus into the town and I got off the bus at Jamaica Street near McDonalds and I waited on the 75 bus to Possil Park. I found out a new route as well dropping me at the back of the care home. For a couple days to I got to practise and me and my mum went back on the bus back into town - we got something to eat in Weatherspoon s after that we got the messages in town, it was busy after that we went home. I went to the pictures to see Fast and Furious at the Forge on Friday the first week it was awesome and magic. The second week I went to Paisley with my mum. Over the weekend I went to Edinburgh on Saturday to see the football Hearts v Raith Rovers at Tynecastle. It was a good match Hearts won 2 1 me and my mate sat at the main stand of Tynecastle. Me and my mate travel by train to get there - it was a good day we sat at the Hearts side it was awesome. On Sunday I went to Hampden to see the football Inverness v Celtic - it was a very funny match because Celtic got beat 3 2 by inverness. Unfortunately I sat with the Celtic end- it was a very funny match. I was laughing. It was busy at the Celtic end but not the Inverness end.

No Matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world. Robin Williams 1951-2014 Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life, but it ain t how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. It s how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That s how winning is done. Sylvester Stallone (Rocky) Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Nelson Mandela 1918-2013 The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven t found it yet, keep looking. Don t Settle. As with all matters of the heart, you ll know when you find it. Steve Jobs 1955-2011
