WITM-MATTA Fair 6 to 8 September 2013 1 st MATTA (Malaysia Associations of Travel & Tours Agents) Fair held in conjunction with the World Islamic Tourism Mart (WITM). Featured a trade segment that allowed the travel and tourism sectors to network, discuss and expand market share. 28,000 sqm exhibition space spread over 8 exhibition halls at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur. 200 exhibitors occupying 1,250 booths. Exhibitors Breakdown - Travel Agencies (53.6%), Airlines (2.6%), NTOs (11.7%), Hoteliers (12.2%), Cruise Companies (1.0%) and Other Business (18.9%).

Malaysia Airlines @ WITM-MATTA Fair 2013 MAS occupied the entire Mezzanine floor at PWTC and placed great emphasis on promoting Darwin : 2 display panels dedicated to promoting Darwin. Full-page, full-colour advertisements in various major vernacular newspapers promoting various destinations including Darwin. MAS s subsidiary MAS Golden Holidays offered 6D/4N Darwin City Break package at RM3,100. MAS gave away 2 return Business Class Tickets to Darwin for a Buyer Contest. MAS lowered its Darwin promotion fare from RM1,480 to RM1,099 at MATTA Fair, and further lowered to RM899 on the last day of the Fair to attract passengers. DESTINATION TRAINING SEMINARS Feedback from Sales Calls and MATTA Fair o The lack of publicity for Darwin and the NT resulted in passengers knowing nothing about the destination and thus resulting in no enquiries for NT / Darwin packages. o Agents also did not know about Darwin and the NT. Those who were aware of Darwin and the NT only knew of the crocodiles and Uluru (Ayer Rock). With MITM Travel Fair, organized by the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association, to be held soon from 4 to 6 October 2013, the above factors prompted immediate action to organize Destination Training seminars for product planners and frontline sales staff. Attendance o 38 travel agencies, including Tourism Australia, Malaysia Airlines and 17 ASPs, with a total of over 100 participants attended the training. o The casual and interactive training sessions were well received and effectively equipped the participants with much knowledge to promote Darwin and the NT.
