Schedule of Events Introduction: Cobh, formerly Queenstown, in Cork Harbour, was the last Port of Call for the magnificent cruise liner Titanic. To mark the centenary of the Titanic s voyage, Cobh Town Council has initiated a programme of inspiring events running throughout the centenary year of 2012 to pay tribute to the Titanic and the people associated with her. Included in the series we anticipate a number of national and internationally promoted events as well as events with regional interest. The events will appeal to a wide audience. Some will predominantly focus on The Titanic and Ireland s part in the history of the Titanic. Others, although still having the centenary in mind, will concentrate in the underlining themes we believe were prominent in the time of the Titanic, positive themes that are still prevalent into days society. These themes are: Remembering bygone times and people past Connecting people and places Imagining being creative and daring to dream Believing Anything is possible if one has the belief The Titanic 100 Cobh 2012 Event Series will offer insights into Ireland s connection with the Titanic as well as incorporating stories of the Diaspora and emigration. The events will stir the emotions and leave our audiences with a greater understanding of Cobh and Cork Harbour. Summary of Event Series: March 2012 5.30 3 rd March 2012- A singing tour of Cobh In association with the Cork singers club and taking place from 1.30- Take the train from Cork to Cobh and gather at The Cobh Heritage Centre to kick-off an afternoon walking and singing your way through one of Cork's most historical and colourful towns.

10 th March 2012 Irish Rail 150 th Anniversary of the Cobh train line. - A Market, photo exhibition and entertainment at Cobh Train Station to celebrate 150 years of service will be a great experience for all ages. Some of the Titanic passengers used this train line on the way to boarding what was then, the largest ship in the world. 17 th March 2012 - St Patrick s Day Parade Cobh 1912 - Cobh will host St Patrick s Day Parade with a difference. The theme of this year s parade is The Cove of Cork 1912 2012. Experience what it might have been like in Cobh in the year that Titanic arrived in Cork Harbour 1912. The parade will feature themed floats, and entertainment for one and all. 19 th March 2012-Shorecrest High School Marching Band The Shorecrest High School Marching Band return to Cobh. 120 musicians will arrive in Cobh to experience the Titanic Trail walking tour on the morning of 19th March. After their tour they will march through the town and play a Titanic commemorative performance in the promenade at 1.30pm 23 rd March 2012- An Ceilí Mór The Cobh Lions Club Ceilí Mór comes to Cobh on Friday 23rd of March in Cobh GAA Club 9pm till midnight. A great night of Craic Agus Ceoil will be had by all. Tickets 5 April 2012 A weeklong programme of events remembering the Titanic and the people involved with her. Our events will have underlying themes that are as relevant today as they were in the time of the Titanic. There will be something of interest happening in Cobh every day during this special week. Including: - Monday 9 th April: Balmoral Cruise Liner welcome The MS Balmoral is retracing the Titanic s journey and will arrive in Cobh. Cobh will host a welcome to the liner and her passengers. This will be a joyful occasion, welcoming the Balmoral and paying tribute to the Titanic.

- Monday 9 th Sunday 15 th April - Daytime Performance and entertainment will be on offer every day during this special centenary week. Come to Cobh and experience a real week to remember - and of course activities available throughout the year will be operating during this week as usual. The Cobh Museum reflecting cultural, social and maritime history of Cobh opens a Titanic Related Exhibition Reflections and Reactions, The Titanic Trail offers a number of tours including the daily Titanic walking tour. The Cobh Heritage Centre is a must with stories of emigration, and a wonderful Titanic exhibition. Titanic Experience Cobh, situated in the original offices of the White Star Line, is and interactive visitor attraction which tells the story of Titanic through the eyes of the 123 passengers boarding from Cobh, then Queenstown, and visit the Sirius Arts Centre where you can enjoy exhibitions, concerts and community engagement programmes. - Monday 9 th Sunday 15 th April Day time: Maritime Fair Quality stalls will be set up along the deep water quay giving many visitors the opportunity to try different styles of food and experience various other vendors. Enjoy viewing the water activities while relaxing with the family in this market stall environment including children s entertainment, magicians etc Tuesday 10 th April: Irish Ancestry research Centre (IARC) will hold a workshop in the Commodore Hotel at 12pm. This workshop is suitable for anyone with a keen interest in their family history. IARC will show you how to trace your ancestors on the Titanic using passenger lists in conjunction with other available sources. Exactly 100 years from when the Titanic arrived in Cork Harbour and the last of the Titanic s passengers and supplies left Cobh and boarded the mighty vessel. This National tribute will commence with a Fleet review from the Irish Navy in the presence of The President Michael D. Higgins. Prominent dignitaries will be invited to attend this once in a life time occasion and respects will

be shown to all those who lost their lives as a result of the tragedy. Wednesday 11 th -14 th April: Titanic Rowing Challenge Come and see Rushbrooke Rowing club row for 82 hours in the town centre, in a bid to raise support for local charity Breaking the Silence. Each participant will row for 5 hours over 4 days to retrace the journey time that it took for the Titanic to reach the Iceberg. - Wednesday 11 th Saturday 14 th April Evening: An Irish Connection - Outdoor concert performance will be telling the story of the Titanic and emigration as well as its connection with Ireland through music and performance from many genres, supported by the Orchestra of Ireland and a twenty piece professional choir. This concert running for four days will feature internationally renowned artists and composers. This waterfront event situated in the Promenade will be the event of the season, with exclusive seated concert viewing in the Promenade and also free viewing in public areas. Tickets for exclusive seating for each date will be available soon. Details will be advertised on the website - Saturday 14 th April - Daytime The Irish Coast Guard will be performing a number of spectacular displays. Utilising many disciplines, you will get the chance to see the many techniques used during search and rescue displays. Vintage Cars of the period of the Titanic will be gracing the streets of Cobh. - Sunday 15 th April - Daytime The Centenary of the Titanic tragedy will be acknowledged with a Remembrance Service at Cobh s St Colman s Cathedral, followed by ceremony in the center of Cobh Township.

Sunday 15 th April: Great Island 10 Run This year s race will take place on April 15th @ 10.30am again for the benefit of the Irish Cancer Society, with special emphasis on palliative care. Taking in some of the most beautiful scenery that the Great Island of Cobh and Cork Harbour has to offer, the route also poses a challenge to the serious runner and occasional runner / walker alike while at the same time helping cancer support. A 5km walk will also take place on the same day for those less inclined to run and who want to show their support. - Friday 20 th Saturday 21 st April The Titanic Lectures A series of lectures which will investigate the many aspects of the Titanic story will take place. Well-known authors including Professor John Wilson Foster, who has written a number of books on this subject, will deliver lectures over this weekend. This is a must for any one with the urge to receive an academic view on the subject of the Titanic. Christian May 2012 May 16 th -19 th Belfast to Cobh Cycle: Christian Aid Ireland has organised a major fund raising, profile building event, Christian Aid Titanic Cycle Challenge 2012 which ties in with the Titanic centenary celebration series in Cobh. The key element of this marathon cycle event is to celebrate the Irish roots of this great ship in its centenary year. This cycle is another link to bring Belfast and Cobh together. Starting at Belfast s Harland and Wolff shipyard, on Wednesday morning 16th May, where the Titanic was built, this 280 mile cycle will take cyclists through some of Ireland s most beautiful countryside, finishing at Cobh, on Saturday 19th May, the Titanic s last port of call. Sunday 20 th May Sea Sunday Service Rev. Brian O Rielly, the Rector of Cobh Church of Ireland community will be hosting a Sea Sunday Service on Sunday 20th May. This service acknowledges and celebrates all seafarers who work around our coastline. The service, this year, will be broadcast live by RTE Radio."

June 2012 9 th June - The Ford Short Film Competition 8 Minutes open to all..from school children to retirees. This competition encourages entrants to produce a short film of no more than 8 minutes in length. The emphasis is on creativity and imagination. All film content must have at least one element relating to the Titanic. Prominent film industry professionals will judge the films and the best 12 entries will be shown to a live audience in a purpose built out door cinema. Details of how and when to enter this competition will be updated on www.titanic100.ie Closing date 8 th May. Friday 22 nd Sunday 24 th June - Concerts on Spike Island will give the public a unique opportunity to be entertained by international and local acts on arguably the most historical island in Ireland. July 2011 August 2011 14 th /15 th July - A Vintage Fair in the streets of Cobh will attract many visitors intrigued by the Victorian and Edwardian era. Step off the train at the Cobh Train Station and be transported back to the beginning of the 20 th century. Take a short trip on a horse and trap, or maybe a penny-farthing bicycle. Be entertained by a magician of the Victorian era or listen to the music of the time. - Cork International Gourmet Festival An international gourmet Festival held in the first week of August leading into the bank holiday. It will run over a week in Cork City with a Titanic Day hosted by many restaurants and food outlets in Cobh. Included in this Festival will be a Titanic themed gala dinner which will kick off the festival on Saturday 28 th July. - Titanic 100 Cobh Peoples Regatta One of the longest running regattas in Europe will be enhanced to commemorate the Titanic Centenary Tribute year. The year would not be the same without a maritime festival and we plan to add even more to the already very successful annual regatta. Sept/Oct 2011 Dec 2011 - Various Titanic themed lectures, exhibitions, recitals and plays will be ongoing in Cobh and surrounding areas through 2012 with September and October no exception. Come to Cobh in the autumn and you will still have the opportunity to be absorbed by this fascinating story that is Titanic. - Closing Ceremony and Christmas Market: As 2012 comes to an end we will continue to remember the Titanic and the people involved with her. We will reflect on the past year in

Cobh and remember the Titanic once again. Plans are going ahead to coordinate this event with the first of what is hoped to be an annual Christmas Market in Cobh. The Titanic Series of Sporting Challenges A number of sporting challenges are scheduled throughout 2012. Included in the series are the Cobh Golf Club s Titanic Golf Classic, a national triathlon, and the already very successful Ocean to City boat race which we will be supporting. Sailing activities, exhibition rugby games, GAA and football matches, the annual Escape from Spike swim, a cycle from Belfast to Cobh and an endurance rowing effort that will see the participants row the distance from Cobh to Titanic s final resting place. Other events throughout the year are expected to take place and will be included in the Titanic 100 Cobh 2012 event calendar soon.
