Junction City Elks Lodge # 1037 2017-2018, Issue # 3 www.elks.org June/July 2017 News from the Exalted Ruler: May 5 th -7 th, Brenda King, Paula Ash, and I attended the KEA Spring convention in Wichita. As always, we had a great time visiting with members from other lodges and getting the opportunity to meet the Grand Exalted Ruler. A big thank you to George Quigley for loaning us his helmets to use during the fun and games night and for providing the MRE's as prizes. On May 20th Brenda King, Jack Allen, Tom Boland, Gary Hall, John Roe, Jon Dulaney and I helped with the Geary County kids fishing derby. There were 91 kids that participated in the derby. They had a great time and caught a lot of fish. On June 9th, we will have a new member s appreciation night. Any new members that were initiated since the beginning of the year will receive a free meal that evening, the cost for all others it will be $5.00. On June 10th, Brenda and I will attend the state flag day in Parsons, Kansas. I encourage our members to try to attend. All the information is in the Sunflower. I hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July. July 16th-- 19th Brenda and I will be attending the grand Lodge convention in Reno Nevada, and we will report on any new information we get from there Charles King 2017-2018, Exalted Ruler JUNE BIRTHDAYS Alva Bowyer 02 Kevin Westover 12 Paula Frazier-Ash 05 Lanny Wolf 17 Robert Hiatt 06 Jim Snowberger 18 Gaylen Johnson 07 Dean Hudson 19 Jonathan Dulaney 10 Stacey Roesener 22 Rhoda Wilson 10 Juanito Ernacio 24 C Tom Burnham 11 Graham Stevens 24 Steve Krajkoski 11 Cliff Engstrom 28 JULY BIRTHDAYS Webb Davis 02 Kathryn Zimmerman 19 Wayne Erichsen 03 Denny Johns 20 Philip Howe 03 James Taylor 20 Roger Watt 04 Craig Paxton 22 Ray Kamphaus 06 Thomas Chavey 25 Larry Githerman 08 Robert Geisler 25 Rick Scott 10 Hugh Mueller 26 Nigel Hanson 11 Willie Murphy 26 Lana Pender 12 Michael Ryan 26 Steve Roesler 12 Bruce Collins 28 Heather Capper 13 Robert Locke 28 Rhyan Holzer 13 Ben Bennett 29 Ronald Johnson 13 Manfred Nelly 29 Bradley Collette 17 Robert Diehl 30 Ronald Janasek 18 Bobby Ellis 30 John Roe, Charles King, Jon Dulaney, & Brenda King

House Committee: The summer months are upon us and usually that means that things at the Lodge slow down as other s activities pick up! It is no different this year. There are not a lot of activities planned for June and July because of this slowdown in business. I want to remind all our members that the House Committee meeting is open to anyone who would like to attend. Starting in June the meetings will be held on the 2 nd Tuesday of each month. This is to allow us to report any changes at the first Lodge meeting of each month instead of the 2 nd and to bring anything that might be of concern to the Trustees in a more timely manner as well. June Happy Hour will be 3-4 pm and coin day will be on Thursday. On June 9 th we will have a New Member Appreciation Night. All of our new members will be invited down for a free meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans and chips. The cost for all other will only be $5.00. We are encouraging our members to invite a guest. Any member who brings a guest that night will be given a ticket for a chance at several prizes we will have available that evening. Also in June, on the 17 th we will be serving an enchilada dinner with rice & beans and chips & salsa for $9.00. July Happy Hour will be 4-5 pm and coin day will be on Mon. On July 4 th the Lodge hours will be 12 2 pm. Don t forget our 6-7 pm Happy Hour Monday Friday. After a long workday stop by and relax. Also, come down and meet our new bar manager, Bonnie Moen Buz Bruzina presents 6th grader, Mariah Rickert, St. Xavier a certificate and a $15 gift card, from the Kansas Elks Association.
