MI UTES OF SOCIAL MEETI G 30 September 2016 (at Soldier s Pt Bowling Club) Anne was emailing me the minutes, but they hadn t arrived at the time of leaving serviceable areas on Thursday... sorry...
Van fixed, and ready to go Binalong supermarket LUCAS TRIP TO 9 th RV AGM MALLACOOTA We arrived home from visiting the kids in Wallerawang and Mudgee on the Sunday night, collected our caravan from the repairers on Monday morning, cleaned the house, mowed the lawns, paid some bills, reloaded the van and took off on the Wednesday after lunch. Pheasant s Nest Stopped at Pheasant s Nest rest area that night, then headed down to a free camp in Binalong to catch up with Rick and Sherol Bedford and their tagalong group of 6 rigs from QLD. Had two beaut nights with them there around the camp fire, and actually won a meat raffle at the local Returning from the pub - still daylight! Binalong free camp Happy Hour pub, for a change! Then down and around through Queanbeyan to Numeralla River rest area just north of Cooma for a night. Brian and Jackie caught up with us there, as well as Ron and Louise from Mudgee and one other Marilyn s meat tray rig, bringing the convoy up to 10. Binalong Pub Next night it had been intended to stop just east of Cann River, but as it looked like rain it was decided to push on via Bombala and Nimmitabel to Mallacoota. Numeralla River free camp Marilyn and I had waited at Cann River for McCallums, but then received an SMS to say they were having lunch Toby enjoys Numeralla River
Mallacoota Inlet Good day for pies at Bega! Brian reckons no-one had told him of the revised itinerary (I HAD sent him an SMS, which he responded to!), so they had headed down the treacherous Brown Mallacoota Happy Hour Mountain on their own. They arrived at Mallacoota some 2 hours after the rest of us. Robyn and Ian also joined us at Mallacoota. Sadly, the weather at Mallacoota was pretty unfriendly to us for most of the week, with relentless cold winds, a fair amount of rain, and generally low daytime temperatures... certainly not the weather for swimming, and not even Nothing stops the fireside chat! pleasant for fishing (I only managed to land one blue swimmer crab!). Mallacoota Inlet from the walk Richo s and Bundy breakfast. Secret Beach I was pleased to receive a message from Billy to say that he, Jack and Dave would join us for a night on their way to Phillip Island for the MotoGP. We managed to squeeze the three of them under our awning for the night, and enjoyed an evening of merriment around the campfire with our neighbours. They headed off again early the next morning Happy Hour with the visitors after a sumptuous Lucas Despite the inclement weather, I m sure everyone once again enjoyed the social catch-up, and the eve- Ian cleans his bream The boys leave for Phillip Island
ning entertainment provided by Gordon and Gloria, and Rick and Brian, and a little further backing from Ken Tacon. Old Genoa bridge Genoa River My only catch from the inlet Next year s event will be at Taunton Farm near Margaret River in WA. The 2018 event will be at Boonah in QLD (between Warwick and Gold Coast). After the mob departed on the Sunday and Monday following the AGM, we meandered south and then westwards via stopovers with some of the Mallacoota mob at Lake Tyer and Marlay Point. Ken, Rick & Brian perform We then discovered this beautiful little spot in the middle of nowhere called Hiawatha, then on to my brother s place at Pearcedale (only about 3 / 4 hour north of Phillip Island). Annual General Meeting time Gloria (Cuddles) & Gordon entertain From there we ll probably head for home via Marilyn s one remaining sibling in Wagga Wagga, in time for various obligations at home, and of course, our branch Christmas party. Hi All, Invitation to Glen Innes 2016 Meet Greet In past years our Meet Greet event has been held as part of the Beardies Festival, however, the Beardies no longer operates and as such no info on our Meet Greet can be sourced from their old website. As a result a group of local motoring enthusiast clubs together with Glen Innes Tourism have developed a new event called "Glen on Wheels". The Celtic Cruisers are a co-host of this festival and have now incorporated our annual Meet N Greet activities as part of this new event. This year the festival will be held 4-6 November 2016 and will focus on all things motoring. The main festival activities to be held Saturday afternoon include Monster Show N Shine, Vintage bikes and cars, hot rods, market stalls, entertainment and catering. Our annual Meet N Greet activities continue throughout the weekend and include Welcome Dinner Friday night, Saturday morning Mystery ride, Main Street ride, Show n Shine and Saturday night dinner dance. Dinner Dance this year is a Groovy Hippie theme. All in all a great weekend for entertainment and socialising. Attached is information on Glen On Wheels, our Meet Greet activities and registration form. It would be appreciated if you could provide this information to your branch members and we look forward to hosting you and your members in glorious New England in November. As further promotional info on the "Glen on Wheels" event becomes available we will send this to your branch. Information on accommodation can be accessed through the Tourist Information Centre website at: www.gleninnestourism.com If you require any additional info or registration forms please contact either: Jack Parry, (Branch President) on 0414 534 153 or David "Shorty" Short (Treasurer) on 0407 522 911. For info on Glen On Wheels please contact Jeff McKinlay on 0458 659 555 or the email address below. Information and rego forms are also posted on the Social and Rides page of our webpage on http:// gleninnes.ulyssesclub.org/. These sites will be updated regularly leading up to the event as new information and activities are confirmed. Hope to see you in Glen in November. Lucas are back out on the track again. Yep, this much abbreviated and VERY late newsletter is coming to you from not-sosunny southern Victoria this time round, after a week of wet and cold winds at the RV AGM event in Mallacoota. Not hard to understand why we see so many Victorian travellers interstate... Actually, as I conclude this edition we are now in an absolutely magic spot, without power or any kind of communication services, with the only sounds being the birds, the little waterfall, and the babbling brook and crackling fire right beside our camp. We are at Minnie Ha Ha Falls near Hiawatha in fact, where we ve awoken to 1 degree Celsius this morning, and that s inside the caravan! This newsletter is abbreviated and late due to no members input while we were in serviceable areas, yet again, right up until Thursday morning! Bob s Blurb newsletter is from our own travel records. Sorry folk, but that s the best I can do, whilever nothing else is being submitted! This would be my poorest newsletter in 9 years... and yes, I m almost over it! BIRTHDAYS October:- Craggie, Judy McTaggart, Terry Irish, Andrew Bellott, Carol Mahoney, Big John, Cheryl Allen, Leonie McCarthy, Steve Grimmond, Bruce Gendle, and little Robyn Marlin. ovember:- Ken Williams, Trish Beddoe, Kiwi Elvis, Peter Knight, Brett Davis, Sue McGarry SICK LIST Haven t heard anything since we ve been away to indicate who s well and who isn t, but we do hope everyone is going OK. As is so frequently the norm these days I ve been waiting, waiting, waiting... but the only contribution to our Commonsense is a flower that doesn t grow in everybody s garden
