WMO International Workshop on Climate Services Information System Operations and Coordination Nanjing, China 21-24 March 2017 GENERAL INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS VENUE The WMO International Workshop on Climate Services Information System Operations and Coordination is being organized under auspices of WMO Commission for Climatology Implementation Coordination Team on Climate Services Information System (ICT-CSIS), hosted by the WMO Regional Training Centre (RTC) Nanjing. The Workshop will be held in Room C101, WMO RTC Building of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST). Registration of participants will take place at the meeting venue from 8:30 till 9:00 on 21 March 2017. Participants will be provided with a ID badge, which serves as a pass to access meeting space and canteen meals. Therefore, all participants are kindly requested to wear the identity badge during the entire workshop. Computer-connected projection facilities will be available for presentations. White boards/flip charts and general office supplies will be available to facilitate discussions. Detailed information on the working arrangements and schedule of the Workshop will be provided in the Provisional Agenda and the Programme. 2
COMPUTER AND INTERNET ACCESS The participants are recommended to bring their own Wi-Fi/Ethernet-ready laptop. Internet access is available at the venue in NUIST, and in the hotel through WI-FI or cable connection. Instructions to avail the facility will be provided at the time of the meeting. VISA APPLICATION Participants may need a Visa to enter China. An official invitation letter with facilitation of Chinese Meteorological Administration (CMA), issued officially by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of China will be provided. For this purpose participants are advised to provide a scanned copy of his/her ID document (e.g. passport) to rtc@nuist.edu.cn. It may take some time to process the visa; therefore, you are encouraged to begin the visa application as soon as possible. ACCOMMODATION and MEALS Lodging for Participants: Block booking has been made for the participants in the Jinling New Town Hotel. The single room fee is USD90 per night, which covers the following services: 1) breakfast 2) shuttle minibus from hotel to conference venue 3) Fitness centre: treadmills, swimming pools and other facilities in operation in the hotel. Fig.4 Front of Jinling New Town Hotel Room reservation for participants in the Jinling New Town Hotel will be made by organizers, as soon as participants provide their itinerary details to the local contacts: <rtc@nuist.edu.cn>, copy to <wy92380@163.com>. A list of all confirmed participants will be provided to the hotel reception in advance. After reaching the hotel, participants only need to check-in providing their passport. Please, be advised that all participants (including those supported by WMO) must pay directly to the hotel the cost of the room and any extra room charges such as telephone, fax, laundry and mini-bar. Please, inform the local focal person, if you have special food preferences, or any restrictions. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION The following local transportation will be provided to the participants by the host. Airport-Hotel-Airport Transportation from the Nanjing Lukou Airport to the hotel, and back to the airport will be arranged by the host. as soon as the ticket is issued. In case of unexpected flight changes or delays participants may contact 86-25-5873-1401 or 182-5199-0739 to promptly rearrange airport transfer. Arriving at the Nanjing Lukou airport, please, approach the person holding a placard with the logos of WMO, CMA and NUIST (see below) and s/he will arrange your ride to the hotel. Welcome to Nanjing! ICT-CSIS Please note that the airport-hotel ride may take about 1 hour. Hotel-NUIST-Hotel The daily transportation between the hotel and the NUIST (meeting venue) will be arranged by the host. The driver will be waiting at the lobby of the hotel at 8:00 a.m. every morning. Local Weather Weather in Nanjing in March is still cool. The average temperature is about 9.3. The average maximum and minimum are 14.2 and 5.3 accordingly. The average total precipitation in March is 79.6 mm. Electricity The power voltage in China is 220V. There are two kinds of sockets widely used in Mainland China: type A and type I. (Fig.6). Fig 6. Types of power sockets Medical care and insurance The participants should take responsibility of their travel and health insurance which covers their travel and visit period. The local host will be on duty all day during the workshop. Please contact related coordinators for first aid or medical care services. The medical e x p e n s e s should be borne by the patient. Participants are strongly advised to arrange their own overseas travel insurance. Currency Exchange Local currency in China is the Chinese Yuan (RMB), with the approximate value 1 Euro = 7.24RMB, 1 USD = 6.87 RMB (Rates on 15 February 2017). The exchange rate is subject to daily variations. Chinese currency is decimal. Notes come in 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, and 1 yuan denominations. Coins come in 10c, 50c denominations. Major currencies can be exchanged at the banks in downtown area. The most common credit cards (e.g. Visa, American Express, MasterCard) are accepted at major hotels and stores. 6
