BOARD MEETING A lengthy agenda but we got through it in 2 hours. Of most importance were the: Inquest into the murder victim. The funds raised were substantial. With the sponsors covering costs the revenue raised was $5230. However, if we are to proceed with this again next year we, as a club must get behind it in a big way. The majority of tickets were sold by Gordon, Sue and Clive. There was very little support from other Rotary clubs in the area. This is a very worthwhile money raiser but we certainly need to focus on the sales aspect of it. Bunnings BBQ s A procedures document was tabled and a healthy discussion arose concerning roles, records, ordering and rosters. David undertook to make a presentation to the club on Tuesday next, August 22. Inner Wheel Trivia Event This will be held on 8th September so all you trivia buffs get organised. See the flyer September Social Meeting This is in the safe hands of Michael so something to look forward to. October Social Meeting We hope to have our social meeting at Camp Breakaway. The Raffle Although Con is going down to my home territory this week to visit a friend and great bloke having some health problems he will be back shortly and the community raffle organisation is well under way. Go Trees We decided that we would continue with our donations to Rotary H part in this project. ealth rather than take My Rotary President Gordon will be looking at one of our newer members to take on this role of collecting the information from members on what hours they have put in as volunteers. Honorary Mmebership The following have been offered and accepted honorary membership for this Rotary Year: Lionel Maddams Rob Unwin James Sleeman Charles Zammit The Rotary Club of The Entrance Page 3

FREE TRAINING Jeremy Carter - President of Norwest Sunrise Rotary Club has offered his company's training course for Board Members - for free to Rotarians and $50 for Non Rotarians. Saturday 9 September 2017-8.00am-11.30am 8.00am Coffee & Registration 8.30am - 11.30am Training incl. Morning Tea Register HERE by Tuesday 5 September 2017 for catering and room organisation purposes. Advisory Boards Unlocking success in your organisation Having a great board of advisors is a powerful asset for your Rotary Club (or any organisation for that matter) to get objective advice, identify unexplored opportunities, open new doors and increase profitability and sustainability. This workshop covers what you need to know in order to establish an effective Advisory Board from inception to succession. Unlike corporate boards, advisory boards do not have fiduciary responsibility and their advice is non-binding. Topics include: The importance of governance in organisations How to setup an effective advisory board Choosing the right people for the board Setting objectives, expectations and compensation Planning for Meetings Running effective board meetings Best practice communication strategies We'd appreciate registration by Tuesday 5 September, so that necessary catering and room organisation arrangements can be made. Kind Regards, Jade The Rotary Club of The Entrance Page 4

SPIN & WIN ROSTER Please note: Spin & Wins times are now 10.30am to 1pm September 9 Saturday September 16 Saturday Stephen Hammond- Parker Robin Hearder David Waterhouse Con Bartsos Torben Nielsen George Clifford Gordon Crawford Stan Crellin Clive Denmark Torben Nielsen Please let me know if you change with someone Revised Issue 1st August Definitions: Nation A society united by a delusion about its ancestry and by a common hatred of its neighbours Andrew Bierce Memories Like mulligatawny soup in a cheap restaurant. It is best not to stir them. P.G. Wodehouse. A little old lady who lived on the third floor of a block of units broke her leg. As the doctor put a cast on it, he warned her not to climb any stairs. Several months later, the doctor took off the cast. "Can I climb stairs now?" asked the little old lady. "Yes," he replied. "Thank goodness!" she said. "I'm sick and tired of shinnying up and down that old drainpipe!". An elderly gentleman had dinner at a very nice restaurant. After he finished his wine, he went to the men s room, then walked out through the bar. It was a beautiful night so he decided to leave his car in the car park and walk home. When he arrived athis front door, he realised he did not have his keys. He finally figured out they were in his jacket pocket, which was still hanging in the restroom. He walked back to the restaurant, found his jacket in the restroom and realised he had left his hat on the table. He strolled back to the dining room to retrieve his hat, and when he got back to his table, his wife asked, Is anything wrong, you took such a long time in there? Rotary Information Trivia How much were annual dues at the first Rotary Club? There were no dues at the first Rotary Club. The group voted there would be no dues and all club expenses would be paid from 50-cent fines. Sounds like an excellent idea, Treasurer Stan For how long was Rotary primarily a friendship and business reciprocity organization? Only about two years; then the club added a third objective to perform civic service. At the first Rotary Convention in 1910, keynote speaker Daniel Cady of the Rotary Club of New York told the audience that Rotary, then with 16 clubs, would have 1,000 clubs around the world within 80 years. Sorry Daniel, you got it very wrong. The 1,000th Rotary Club was added in 1921, only 11 years later. In 1911 Paul Harris gave Chesley Perry a budget of $25.44 to complete a daunting task. What was the task? To print and mail a new publication, The National Rotarian, to all 2,000 Rotarians in the 23 clubs nationwide. What is the greatest distance from Chicago that a Rotary Club banner has been displayed? Astronaut Frank Borman, of the Rotary Club of Space Center Houston, took a club banner on his orbit around the moon in Apollo 8. Rotary International s official motto is Service Above Self. But what is Rotary s secondary motto, adopted in 2004? They Profit Most Who Serve Best THE FOUR WAY TEST Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? We thank our Sponsors The Rotary Club of The Entrance Page 8
