Fatima Camino de Santiago * All Masses are subject to approval from local ecclesiastical authorities. Day 1: Monday, May 20th, 2019: Depart USA. Board your flight and relax onboard as you fly into Spanish skies. (Group departs from Chicago to Madrid. Other departure cities may be available for an add-on cost.). (M) Day 2: Tuesday, May 21st: Madrid & El Escorial. Upon arrival at Barajas Airport in Madrid, clear Spanish (EU) Immigration and Customs formalities and follow your escort to the Groups Assembly Exit. After boarding our coach, enjoy a panoramic drive of the great Capital of Spain, featuring its most famous sights like Puerta de Alcalá, the Gran Via, Cibeles Fountain, the Royal Palace and the massive Cathedral of the Almudena, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Here a Mass* of Thanksgiving for a safe arrival will be celebrated. Travel on to the Castilian countryside to visit the famous Escorial. San Lorenzo del Escorial (St. Lawrence of Escorial) functioned as a Royal Residence, a Basilica and a Monastery. Stay in San Lorenzo for dinner and the first of our two-night stay. (M, L, D) Meals Legend: M = Airplane Meals B = Breakfast L = Lunch D = Dinner Day 3: Wednesday, May 22nd: Segovia & Valle de los Caidos. After breakfast, travel to Guadarrama mountain range to visit Valle de los Caidos (Valley of the Fallen) where a giant cross stands marking the place of rest for the fallen soldiers of the Spanish Civil War. Afterwards, travel to magnificent Segovia to enjoy a walking exploration of this historic city. First, we view the amazing and ancient Roman Aqueduct still standing tall after so many centuries! Then follow our local guide to the center of town where Isabelle the Catholic was crowned Monarch of Castile and Leon. Here we visit The Lady of Spanish Cathedrals, Spain s last Gothic Cathedral, Catedral de San Frutos. After visiting and praying at this massive Cathedral, continue down the road to the amazing Alcazar de Segovia castle where our local Tour Guide will show us the inside of this amazing building. Afterwards, we descend the promontory in a rosary procession until we reach the Carmelite church which houses the incorrupt remains of St. John of the Cross, coreformer of the Carmelite Order. Mass* is celebrated here. After Mass, admire the amazing view of Segovia s imposing Alcazar Castle as we take a group photo! Segovia is one of the most captivating cities in Castile and one of UNESCO s patrimonies to humanity. Return to San Lorenzo for dinner and the second of our two-night stay. (B, D) Day 4: Thursday, May 23rd: First walk on the Camino (7.6km). After breakfast, we depart early towards Molinaseca, a small town on the Camino de Santiago (Road of St. James). After a lunch break, follow your guides as we embark on a pilgrimage of a lifetime! Take all your stamina, adrenaline, your excitement, your faith, and all your prayer intentions on the road! The pilgrim group will walk the Camino until we reach Ponferrada. Upon arrival in Ponferrada, we celebrate Mass at the Basilica de la Encina right next to the Knight s Templar Palace. Camino de Santiago D a y 5 : F r i d a y, M a y 2 4 t h : P o n f e r r a d a t o S a r r i a a n d Portomarín (22.4km). After breakfast, proceed to Sarria on coach where we begin the final 100 kilometers of the Camino walk required to obtain the coveted Certificate of Completion. Upon reaching Portomarín we gather to board our coach that will take us to our Mass* in the city of Lugo. After Mass, walk to our hotel for dinner. (B, D) Day 6: Satur day, May 25th: Por tomarín to Palas del Rei (25km). Start the day with Holy Mass* in Lugo. Then return to the hotel for breakfast. Afterwards, we once again reconnect with the Camino. Our walk this morning will be a gradual climb through the village of Gonzar and then several quaint hamlet s (all with Castro in their names). The afternoon will be mostly even surface walking, passing through Portos and Lestedo on our way to Palas de Rei. At the end of the day, return to our hotel for dinner and discussion of your experience with fellow pilgrims. (B, D) Day 7: Sunday, May 26th: Palas del Rei to Arzúa (28.8km). Sunday Mass starts the day. After Mass, walk back to the hotel for a hearty breakfast. Afterwards, we embark on our 3rd full day of walking the Road of St. James. Although the longest of our walks, today s 17 miles covers a relatively easy terrain. Travel through many small villages and cross a Roman bridge in Campanilla. At the end of a long day we check in to our hotel in Santiago de Compostela for the 1st of a 3-night stay. We retire after dinner preparing for the final 2 days of walking. (B, D) Day 8: Monday, May 27th: Arzúa to O Pedrouzo (19.1km). After a good breakfast, we are fueled to start the 1st day of the final 2-day stretch of the Camino. Today, we leave Arzúa, walking through various hamlets on our way to O Pedrouzo. The terrain has some change in altitude and the views are breathtaking. Holy Mass* will be celebrated at a chapel in Santiago. At the end of the day, the coach picks us up and takes us to our hotel for dinner. (B, D) www.materdeitours.com 800-515-2632 Fatima Day 9: Tuesday, May 28th: O Pe d r o u z o t o S a n t i a g o d e C o m p o s t e l a ( 2 0 k m ). A f t e r breakfast, we begin our final walk passing by the Mount of Joy where we get our first glimpse of the imposing Cathedral from afar. We begin to anticipate our triumphant yet humble arrival at the world famous city of Santiago de Compostela, the resting place of St. James the Greater. This evening we once again enjoy dinner with our fellow pilgrims contemplating our visit to the Cathedral to complete our pilgrimage within a pilgrimage. Mass* in Santiago. (B, D) Day 10: Wednesday, May 29th: Santiago de Compostela Fatima. Enjoy a well-deserved breakfast in preparation of our visit to the impressive Cathedral Basilica of St. James, with its immense censer locally called the Botafumeiro, which requires several men to make it swing from end to end. Mass* will be celebrated here (Botafumeiro operation is not guaranteed). Walk the town and enjoy the excitement of so many pilgrims that have completed their journey. Visit the Administration building and obtain your formal certificate, presenting your Camino Passport with the many stamps you have earned along the way. Say farewell to the Camino and begin a beautiful journey into Portugal! Relax and enjoy the ride through the Portuguese countryside as we approach one of the holiest Marian Shrines, the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. This is the famous site where Our Lady appeared to three little shepherds in 1917. There will be an orientation walk this evening in order to get you acquainted with the shrine. We stay at a retreat hotel with our own Chapel. (B, D) Day 11: Thursday, May 30th: Fatima, Aljustrel and Valinhos. Join our pilgrim group this morning for the Hungarian Way of the Cross, a special gift of the Hungarian people to Our Blessed Mother for their liberation from Communism. Here we visit the sites of the August 19 th Marian Apparition as well as the apparition site of the Angel of Portugal. Also visit the homes of Blessed Francisco and Blessed Jacinta (with a possibility of meeting relatives), as well as the home of Lucia s family. After visiting the parish church where Blessed Francisco used to spend his days consoling Jesus, return to the hotel for lunch. Mass* has been requested at the Capelinha (the site of the apparitions). Tonight, join your pilgrim family for farewell dinner. Rosary procession follows for those who wish to participate. (B, L, D) Day 12: Friday, May 31st: Return to USA. This morning we depart for the airport for our journey home saying goodbye to Spain but keeping the experience close to our hearts to share with family and friends as we arrive home. (d.b.a. = doing business as Mater Dei Tours and Relevant Journeys) is acting as an independent intermediary (travel agent) between you and suppliers of goods and services, which are not directly supplied by Mater Dei Tours, such as air transportation, hotel accommodations, ground and sea transportations, tours, tour guides, escorts, etc. and shall not be responsible for actions or omissions on the part of such suppliers, which may result in any loss, damage, delay or injury to you or your travel companions or group members. Mater Dei Tours and any religious or private organization contracting it s services shall not be responsible for any injuries, damages or losses caused to any traveler in connection with social or labor unrest, mechanical or construction difficulties, diseases, local laws, climatic conditions, war, terrorist activities or any other actions omissions, or conditions outside their control. By embarking upon his/her travel, the traveler(s) voluntarily assumes all the risks, and is advised to obtain appropriate insurance coverage against them. Your booking shall constitute a consent to the above and engaging the company, acknowledges these conditions and agrees to hold the company blameless in making the arrangements on his/her behalf, and agrees that restitution or damages, if any are claimed, shall be sought directly from the suppliers. Deposits: A deposit of $500 per person is required to secure your space to Mater Dei Tours Your deposits are used to cover and guarantee your space. Deposits will be refunded in the event the tour does not meet the minimum quorum necessary to make the trip possible. If you use a credit card as payment, you agree that if any cancellation penalties are due, Mater Dei Tours is authorized to charge the penalties to the credit card listed on the registration. Final Payments: Full payment must be made no later than 100 days prior to departure unless otherwise stated. Payments may be made by check, Visa or MasterCard. If payment is not received as scheduled, your reservation may be automatically canceled and your deposit payment becomes forfeit. If you use a credit card as payment, for your convenience, you may opt to have Mater Dei Tours charge your balance to the same authorized credit card on the registration form by simply calling us with your verbal authorization. Cancellations: All cancellations must be received in writing to our company prior to tour departure during normal business hours (9:00am to 5:00pm CST, Monday through Friday). All Cancellations are subject to the following per person penalties prior to departure: 100 days or prior $500.00 99 to 65 days..50% of tour 64 to 35 days..75% of tour 34 to 0 days..100% of tour (No Refunds) No refund can be made for independent non-refundable airfare. Note: Travel Insurance Premiums are not refundable. If you use a credit card as payment, you agree that if any cancellation penalties are due, Mater Dei Tours is authorized to charge the penalties to your credit card on record. (space may sell out before deadline) *Early Angel Discount expires December 31st Tour Membership: To ensure a positive experience, the Mater Dei Tours reserves the right to reject any client (before or during the trip at the expense of the traveler) whose conduct is incompatible with the interest of the group. Mater Dei Tours is not responsible for lost persons and for the expenses incurred while being lost. Each traveler assumes responsibility for staying with the group. Travelers with Special Needs: Passengers who require attention must advise the tour operator at the time of booking. A qualified and physically able companion must accompany travelers who need such assistance and must assume full responsibility for their well being. Coaches are not equipped with wheelchair accessible ramps, therefore all tour members must be able to mount 3 to 5 steps into the coach. Participants should expect to walk between 1 and 15 miles in one day (if they choose to participate in all the organized walks). Walking surfaces may at times be uneven and difficult. Mater Dei Tours is not responsible for denial of service by any suppliers. Young Travelers: Travelers who are less than 18 years old on the departure date must be accompanied by an adult and must share the adult's accommodations. If a child will be traveling with adults other than the parents or with only one parent, it is highly recommended that a notarized letter be written by the parents or non-traveling parent granting authorization to travel, including the dates of travel. We suggest that you also contact the appropriate consulate and airlines because they may have additional requirements. Roommate Assignments: Mater Dei Tours will make every reasonable attempt to find you a roommate. However, this is not guaranteed. If no roommate is found by the registration deadline, the passenger will have the option to upgrade to a single room (if available) by paying the single occupancy or cancel altogether with a full refund. Mater Dei Tours cannot be held responsible if the roommate you were assigned to is not agreeable to you. If you desire to get your own room, you will be responsible for all the financial consequences of such action, including but not limited to, covering the single occupancy costs of both you and your ex-roommate. Air Transportation: We have selected airlines that are most suitable with land arrangements. All fares are subject to government approval and are subject to change without notice. Airfares are guaranteed once they have been paid in full and ticketed. Name changes required after tickets have been issued are subject to cancellation and re-ticketing at a higher fare and subject to change fees. Some airlines do not allow you to earn frequent flier miles for group bookings. Airline Seating: Passengers who require specific seating due to medical conditions are advised to obtain Doctor s Orders so the airlines may have proof of the condition and may accommodate the order. In addition to making the request through our company, please bring the doctor s note to the ticket counter. Passengers who desire a specific non-medical related seat are requested to contact the airline directly, approximately 30 days prior to departure for preferred seating. Group seating is under control of the airline and Mater Dei Tours can only pass on your requests. Voluntary changes to itinerary: Independent voluntary changes to an individual passenger s itinerary are usually not permitted by most of our tour suppliers. Some exceptions may be granted in a case-by-case basis. All change requests must be made prior to 45 days before departure. If passenger purchased a land only package, they are free to plan their own itinerary before or after the trip (read Land Only bookings for restrictions). Not Included: All items of a personal nature (room service, beverages, telephone charges, laundry, etc) and meals not specified on the tour itinerary are not included and must be paid by the passenger. Accommodations and Itinerary: Land arrangements are provided as described in the tour program. The tour company reserves the right to change or substitute (1) hotels for accommodations in similar categories (2) or features of the itinerary in order to accommodate changes in the schedule. Meals: Meals are provided as specified in the tour program. If you require special meals due to dietary restrictions, we must receive written details of your requirements at the time of booking. We cannot guarantee your requested diet but every effort will be made to accommodate these requests. Passports: Obtaining a passport is the sole responsibility of the passenger. Passports must be current and valid beyond the dates of travel. Your airline ticket name must match your passport name or you may be denied boarding the airplane. Passengers who are denied boarding due to discrepancies between ticket and passport names or because of expired passports accept full responsibility and are subject to the cancellation terms of the tour. Some countries such as Israel require that your passport expiration be 6 months beyond your travel dates. We recommend that you apply for your passports (if needed) at the time of registration. Smoking: Smoking is not allowed on the motor-coach but frequent stops are made throughout the day. Intercontinental airline transportation provided by: IBERIA AIRLINES Tips: Gratuities for baggage, hotel and restaurants detailed in the itinerary are included. Gratuities for Tour Guides, Local Guides and Motor-coach Drivers are NOT included (unless otherwise stated in the brochure) Please see your Essential Reading Material (provided with your documents) for recommendations on tipping (usually $12 USD per person, per day). Please budget accordingly. Total Group Cancellation: If it becomes necessary to cancel an entire tour prior to departure, Mater Dei Tours will offer the next available date or will make a full refund of money paid. Mater Dei Tours cannot accept responsibility for any additional costs, fees or cancellation penalties relating to any independent nonrefundable airfares (unless air reservation was booked as part of our negotiated group booking). Land Only Bookings: Passenger(s) who desire to book their own airfare do at their own risk. Land only passengers are responsible for connecting with the group at the hotel. Passenger(s) accept all responsibility for costs incurred due to misconnections with the group. Mater Dei Tours cannot accept responsibility for any additional costs or fees related to such a booking or for any cancellation penalties due to independent non-refundable airfare (even if Mater Dei Tours assisted with this booking). Luggage: Handling of one piece of luggage per person is included in the cost of this tour wherever hotel luggage service is offered (some hotels do not have bell captains). Luggage is carried at owner s risk throughout the tour (insurance suggested). Hand baggage and small articles such as coats, umbrellas or cameras are entirely in the care of the passenger. Size and weight limitations for carry-on and checked baggage vary from airline to airline and even according to destination, and are becoming more restrictive. Airlines with domestic connections reserve the right to charge airline baggage fees. Some international flights are now charging airline baggage fees. Check your final documents for details of acceptable luggage fees, dimensions and weight allowed on your tour. All baggage and personal effects are at all times and in all circumstances at the risk of the passenger. Baggage insurance is recommended (see Travel insurance section below). Validity: Rates in this brochure are valid for the travel period stated on the brochure, and are quoted on a per person sharing twin/double room basis.
