SEE WHAT FAMILIES HAVE TO SAY DAY DAY CAMPCAMP! ABOUTRADNOR RADNOR Our son has enjoyed his first year of camp at Radnor. We loved the scheduled events and structured weeks and the well screened counselors have a contagious energy that the kids definitely pick up! We will be back! The performing arts provided my Meghan is exceptional. She is a huge reason why we come back to RDC each year. She is always positive and cheerful, and gets the kids so excited about performing at the end of camp. Ms. Mustard is another favorite. She allows the kids to create with few rules and my child has really had a blast in her class. My daughter comes home with a smile on her face and stories to share from her day, after camp at Radnor! She has some existing friends, and has made some new ones - and loves the counselors. Great activities and great field trips! We ll be back next summer for sure. My son has attended RDC for the past 7 Summers and still loves it. He has created lasting friendships that have continued well into his middle school years and hopes to work as a counselor when he is in high school. My daughter began the Radnor Camps at age 3 for Tot Lot. At age 10, she s still going strong. She loves it. This staff is very professional and really fun for the kids. Literally, our best camp experience on the Main Line for 7 years running at a great price. Monday to Friday, June 25 to August 3, 2018 No Camp 7/4/18 Full Day: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Half Day: 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM Radnor Day Camp, traditionally known as RDC, is a six-week summer day camp for children entering grades 1st through 9th. Planned activities include arts and crafts, sports and games, swimming, performing arts, special events, and field trips*. (*Field trips and special lunch days are optional and require additional fees.) (*Half day field trips may return to camp later than the 12:30 pm pick up. Call for more information 610-688-5600) When registering for Radnor Day Camp you can choose to sign your camper up for Full Day or Half Day. If you decide to sign your child up for Half Day, taking place from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, they will have an abbreviated version of the typical RDC day.. Campers are grouped by the grade they will be in as of fall 2018. Leaders are assigned to each group depending on the size and need of the grade/group. Campers will spend the day with their group traveling from activity to activity. If your child participates in Radnor Township School District s Extended School Year (ESY), English Language Learners (ELL), or Literacy Program (LIT), they are still eligible to participate in RDC! We work closely with the Radnor Township School District in order to provide a modified summer camp experience. Field trips and special lunch days are not prorated, and you must select either all trips and lunches or no trips and lunches. The field trip schedule will overlap with the RTSD summer school schedule, therefore, you must decide if your child will attend the field trips or if they will attend ESY/ELL/Literacy Camp. Campers who are enrolled in Radnor Township School District summer school programs are eligible for a prorated fee. Please contact us for more information! CAMP LEADERSHIP CAMP STAFF Camper safety and staff development are our most important areas of focus. This program provides the opportunity to be mentored by the LIT Director and camp staff in order to gain a basic understanding for summer camp operations and the leadership skills that are necessary to supervise campers. LITs will assist in the supervision of and interaction with Radnor Day Campers and help enhance the camp experience by offering creative ideas and activities. Experience. Participants will have the opportunity to experience a team approach to supervising campers, planning activities, and solving difficult situations as they arise. Throughout the summer, LITs will practice communication, conflict management, decision making, and group management skills, benefiting their development outside of the camp setting. Their experiences will help to increase interpersonal skills and enhance leadership skills for application in future situations. Role Model. This is a great opportunity for teens to mature and act as role models for younger campers. In order to track their progress throughout the summer, LITs are encouraged to set short- and long-term goals that they would like to achieve during the summer and keep a journal about their experiences. Participants will periodically meet with the LIT Director for interactive, educational sessions and to discuss their development. Accountability. LITs will be accountable to the LIT Director and the RDC Director. Weekly educational sessions will take place within the LIT program where LITs will reflect upon their progress towards personal goals as illustrated by their involvement throughout the week. These weekly meetings are designed as small group forums where LITs learn new leadership strategies and help one another to solve difficult problems presented throughout the week. LITs will be expected to apply the skills they learn in the program to the RDC setting as they shadow our Leaders and provide additional support while developing leadership skills for their future. COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT SUMMER CAMP ACTIVITIES! Thank you to the RDC families who provided feedback about our program in 2017 - we take it very seriously and have used it to strategically plan for 2018 and future years. The graph to the right represents the opinions that were shared. We strive to go above and beyond at RDC, but recognize that our program does not provide the best fit for everyone. The following are typical questions/comments that we receive each year that you might find helpful: Swimming - Why is the schedule limited? Why is it inconsistent each week? For swimming, we must bus from our camp site at Radnor Elementary School to Radnor High School, therefore only allowing us four swimming timeslots each day. On days with special events and trips, the schedule can be even more limited. We realize swimming is a big part of RDC and we do our best to have as many swimming periods into one day as we can. Location - Why doesn t camp take place at Radnor High School? In advance of each summer, we work closely with Radnor Township School District through the process of site identification. Radnor Elementary offers a dynamic location that is conducive to the delivery of RDC for both the Township and RTSD. Weekly Field Trips - Can you change up the weekly field trips from year to year? While we have changed the field trip destinations over the years, we have kept many of them consistent over the last few years. We have done this mostly for the campers safety and to not drive up the costs of camp. We are evaluating creative ways to change the field trip schedule and keep it fun along with adding special events and visitors at the camp site. Camp Hours - Can there be longer daily camp hours in the morning and afternoon? Over the years, we have offered extended day hours and they have not been successfully attended. We continue to evaluate this each year. Camper Progress & Daily Schedules - Can I learn more on how/what my camper is doing on a daily basis? If at any time you have questions about your camper s experience at the camp, please know you can always contact us while camp is in session and we can set up a time for you to talk with our Director. Daily schedules have also been added to the website. Communication - How do I communicate with RDC/How does RDC communicate with me? RDC s cellular phone number is 610-955-4179 and is available only on days that camp is open from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday to Friday. You may contact the Recreation Department at 610-688-5600 or by emailing recreation@radnor.org. Please reach out to us in a timely manner to report all forms of attendance such as early dismissals, late arrivals, daily absences, and vacations. All RDC correspondences, including important and timely announcements, will take place electronically by email and will be posted to the Township RDC website - if you do not have electronic access, please let us know as soon as possible and we will communicate with you by paper and phone. Each Friday, an RDC Newsletter will be published and includes important and fun information. Page 3 Page 8
