Out of Our Window by Giraffes A diary of the building work as seen out of the classroom window by the children in Giraffes class. April 2013
Monday 15 th April Walking to school, I saw some trucks and wondered what was going on. When I got into class I remembered they were constructing the classrooms for our new primary school. I first saw the pool being demolished! I also saw some metal fencing around the field. Tuesday 16 th April The next day I saw a colossal hole in the ground where the swimming pool used to be. Next to the swimming pool hole there was a pile of mud. Wednesday 17 th April On Wednesday we saw a path leading around the field. It was for vehicles to go to and fro. By David and Maha Thursday 18 th April On Thursday when we came to school in the morning we saw that piles of mud had appeared, because the builders were digging up our pool where they were going to put a new hall. Friday 19 th April Today the builders put a path down so vehicles can pass through, because if the vehicles drive in the mud they might get stuck. Every time a big vehicle goes past, our interactive white board wobbles. It s making us feel seasick! By Shaan and Jamaldin
Monday 22 nd April On Monday when I came to school is saw the builders cutting all trees in forest school to make a path for the new car park. By Nia Tuesday 23rd April On Tuesday the builders started making the shape of the new hall. Everyone was excited of how it looked, it also made lots of noise. By Caitlyn Wednesday 24th April On Wednesday the builders started flattening the new hall. By Aryan Thursday 25th April and Friday 26th April On Thursday the mud piles disappeared and the builders were shaping the classrooms. Because they were 4 new classes, they did the same on Friday. There were lots of BANG! And SMASH! Sounds and the ground kept shaking. But we were confident and kept going. By Nisha
Monday 29 th April 2013 We heard some noises and in assembly we still heard them. In the afternoon they were pouring in some concrete where the hall was getting built. On Tuesday 30 th April 2013 the concrete was solid. What a surprise! By Ainul Wednesday 1 st May 2013 In the morning the workers were cutting wood from the sides and the edges. By Hamza Thursday 2 nd and Friday 3 rd May 2013 We saw them preparing to put the concrete on the classrooms They made the ground flat. I wonder if they will pour the concrete on the ground on Tuesday? By Sabiha
Monday 6 th May On Monday it was a Bank Holiday so we and the builders had an extra day off. Tuesday 7th May On Tuesday the builders put the concrete on the floor for the new classrooms. In the afternoon me and Maha had a drink and we saw a builders was sunbathing and eating a sandwich! It must have been his lunch break. By Tia Wednesday 8th May On Wednesday the builders started to dig the ground. When they finished digging the ground there was a lump of mud beside the building site. Thursday 9th and Friday 10th May On Thursday and Friday they flattened the ground and put a plastic fence around it. By Ola

By Oliwier Thursday 16 th and Friday 17th May The builders were screwing the steel frame together. By Julianne
Monday 20 th May Today the builders were putting up scaffolding. They were putting it on the sides and facing forward. All the children were looking at it. Tuesday 21st May Today they were putting scaffolding on the new hall. Giraffes were looking at it. By Mohammad Wednesday 22nd May Today they put on the nets over the top of the steel frames. Thursday 23rd May Today they were digging holes for the pipes. By Barun Friday 24th May The workers haven t done much today. (It is very wet today!) Monday 3 rd June Today when we came back from half term, all of our class went and looked through the window, and on the balcony. I couldn t see. When everyone went and sat on the floor I went looked outside. There were new temporary building, oh my goodness, they were blocking our view! But they put the roof on the new hall. They were using a blowtorch to melt the felts onto the roof. By Mohammad Tuesday 4th June Today the builders started to put the roof on the classrooms. They were lots of noises like bangs and crashes and it was very annoying! Wednesday 5 th and Thursday 6 th June On Wednesday and Thursday they continued doing the roof on the classrooms. We didn t see much because we were busy learning, but we heard bangs and clatters! They were annoying like Tuesday s and we kept saying Can you keep it down? We re trying to learn! We looked at the car park. Diggers were digging up the ground where Forest School used to be. It was very sad for us. By NIsha Friday 7th June Today there was more digging by the car park. We noticed there s been deliveries we ve seen metal poles, for the new hall and we saw insulation (I call it white stuff), etc. Also we saw the classroom roof, it was done and there were holes in it! We think it s going to be skylights. Skylights are windows on the roof which you can open and close. By Shaan
