PLACE OF THE CONFERENCE The 1979 EPS International Conference on High Energy Physics will take place at the International Conference Centre (C1CG), 15 rué de Varembé, Geneva (see sketch map on the back of this Bulletin). 2. PROGRAMME A summary of the programme of the Conference is attached as Annex I. The final programme will be given in detail in the Conference booklet which will be despatched to all partícipants towards the end of May. This booklet will also contain the titles and authors of the contributed papers selected for presentation at the Conference. 3. REGISTRAT1ON Participants may register at the International Conference Centre between 14.00 hours and 21.00 hours on Tuesday 26 June and as from 07.30 hours on Wednesday 27 June. In view of the large numbers involved, there will be no formal registration as such. Participants are requested to collect their own badges (two: one for wearing and one for the document case), the document case, badge holder, book of abstracts, list of participants and tourist literature about Geneva, on a self-service basis from the appropriate desks which will be clearly indicated. The fact that the badges nave been taken will be regarded as "registration" of the participant concerned. Those participants who have paid in advance for their lunch tickets (see attached questionnaire to be completed by all participants) may obtain them from a special desk reserved for this purpose. Those who wish to buy tickets on the spot for one or more days (SF 15.- per day, the reduction for all six days being applicable only to those who have paid in advance), should do so from a sepárate desk which will also be clearly indicated. There will be a General Information desk (tel. nos. Geneva (022) 99 23 30 and 99 23 32) immediately inside the main entrance to the International Conference Centre. In addition, Conference Secretariat staff will be available to answer queries. Please note that all questions concerning hotels and travel reservations, as well as reservations for the special evening excursions and for the Key Tours excursions, should be addressed to the desk of Wagon-lits Tourisme (see U, 12 and 13). Special transport will be available to and from the International Conference Centre for registration on Tuesday 26 June (see 5), and for the subsequent days of the Conference.

t. HOTEL ACCOMMODATION Hotel accommodation for the participants at the Coníerence will be arranged by Wagon-lits Tourisme. A questionnaire is enclosed, which gives some indication oí the cost oí hotel rooms in Geneva; it should be completed and returned directly to U'agon-lits Tourisme at the address given on the form as soon as possible and in any case before 1 May 1979. Please note that ah subsequent correspondence concerning hotel accommodation shouid be sent to Wagon-lits Tourisme and not to the Secretariat oí the EPS International High Energy Conference. 5. HOVt' TO REACH THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE BY SPECIAL TRANSPORT To enable participants to register on Tuesday 26 June, buses clearly marked "EPS Conference" will opérate a shuttle service between 13.^5 hours and 20.15 hours from Place Cornavin (see attached map), outside the Agency Auderset-Dubois (opposite the main entrance to the Cornavin railway station) and from the main Coach Terminus oí the city situated in Place Dorciére near the lake and easily found behind the Englísh Church on the rué du Mont-Blanc. between On Wednesday morning 27 June, a similar bus service will opérate 7.15 hours and 9.00 hours from the same departure points. From then on, special arrangements will be available daily throughout the Conference, full details of which will be given in the Conference booklet. 6. HOW TO REACH THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT The International Conference Centre (Centre International de Conféi onférences de Geneve), also known by the abbreviation CICG, is located near to the Place des Nations and the United Nations Building (UN), as own on the sketch map already menttoned. It is adjacent to the rué de Vermont, near its junction with the rué de Montbrillant. (a) (b) To reach the city centre from Cointrin Airport, participants may take the direct Swissair bus to the Swissair terminus at Cornavin railway station. These buses run every 20 minutes and the cost is SF 3.50. Alternatively, the No. 33 trolleybus from its terminus on the west side of the Airport adjacent to the restaurant building also goes to Cornavin railway station and continúes nto the centre of Ceneva and beyond (place Bel-Air, Champel). The cost of the ticket to Cornavin is SF 1.-. Bus tickets for pubüc transport must n ajl cases be purchased BEFORE entering the bus from the automatic ticket machines which are located at every bus stop, and for which coins are requíred. A taxi from the Airport to the centre of Geneva is rather expensive as the Airport lies outside the city zone. To reach the CICC from the city centre, there is a frequent public bus service run by the "Transports Publics Genevois" (TPG), from Place Cornavin ( n íront of Cornavin railway station), Bus "0", marked "Place des Nations - OMS", which follows rué Baulacre, rué Vidollet and rué de Vermont to the Place des Nations and the World Health Organization. The bus stop for the International Conference Centre is directly opposite to it and is called "Tour de Vermont". The cost of this journey is SF I.-. There is also an "F" bus service from Place Cornavin to the Place des Nations, Grand-Saconnex and then on to Ferney-Voltaire (France) which passes alone the rué de Montbrillant. In this case the stop needed is "Varembe" and t is a request stop, sítuated about 300 m from the Conference Centre. The cost is again SF 1.-. "CERN DAY" On 29 September 195<f the Convention establishing the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) entered into forcé. To mark the 25th Anniversary of CERN the morning session of the Conference on Saturday 30 June will be devoted to two special lectures given by L. Van Hove - "Highlights of 25 years of Physics at CERN" and by B. Wiik (DESY) - "Prospects in High Energy Physics". The Chairman will be Víctor F, weísskopf (M1T). In the afternoon, a guided tour of CERN will be arranged for those who wish to visit the Laboratory. Participants are asked to indícate on the enclosed questionnaire whether or not they would like to take part in this tour. Since the visit will cross into France, participants are requested to carry their passports. PROCEEDINGS It was stated in Bulletin No. 1 for the Conference that the Proceedings of the Conference would be published in two volumes. This arrangement has now been revised, and the Proceedings will be published as a single volume. It is hoped that they will be available in early December. Each invited participant to the Conference will receive one copy free of charge.

JCO Nationals oí the íollowing countries require visas to enter Switzerland: Bulgaria, China, Czechoslovakia, Egypt, the Germán Democratic Republic, Hungary, India, Pakistán, Poland, Romanía, Yugoslavia and the USSR. Citizens oí these countries attending the Conference must appiy to their nearest Swiss Embassy or Consulate for a visa. The Coníerence organizers will facilítate the issue oí visas by informing the Swiss authorities oí those who will require them, provided that full ñames and exact date of birth have been given on the questionnaire enclosed with this Bulletin, which must be returned to the address given on it by all participants since it concerns matters in addition to visa requirements. 10. LUNCH ARRANGEMENTS A self-service buffet lunch will be available at the International Conference Centre on Wednesday 27, Thursday 28, Friday 29 June and on Monday 2, Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 July. The cost is SF 15.- per day or SF 80.- for the six days if paíd in advance (see questionnaire attached). This charge comprises one hot dish and a wide choíce of cold meats and salads, a dessert and 3 decilitres of red or white wine, or a bottle of beer or mineral water, which will already be available on the dining tables. Lunch tickets should be placed in the special boxes which will be on the serving tables. There are a number of restaurants near the Conference Centre which will be listed in the Conference booklet. Participants should note, however, that the cost of a normal meal, including drinks and service, in an outside restaurant, is likely to be between SF 15.- and SF 25.-, or even more, depending on the main dish chosen. On Saturday 30 June, those participants who wish to do so may take lunch at Restaurant No. 1 at CERN (see aiso 7 "CERN Day"). 11. CONCERT TO COMMEMORATE THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF CERN All participants are invited to an Anniversary Concert given by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande at the Victoria Hall, Geneva, at 19.45 hours on the evening of Friday 29 June. The concert is offered by the City and Cantón of Geneva and the Swiss Confederation. The Orchestra will be conducted by Horst Stein and the programme is as follows:

Vibert (especially commissioned to commemorate the 25th Anníversary of CERN) Concertó No. 4 en sol majeur pour piano et orchestre, by L. van Beethoven (soloist R. Buchbinder) Rhapsodie espagnole, by M. Ravel Daphnis et Chloé: Suite No. 2, extrait du ballet, by M. Ravel.. Numbered seats, which must be oceupied by \9A5 hours at the very latest, have becn reserved for all those who wish attend the Concert. For planning purposes, and since the Concort will also be open to the general publie, free of charge, participants are asked to indícate on the attached questionnaire whether or not they plan to go to the Concert. Entry tickets will be available írom a special (clearjy indicated) desk at the International Conference Centre írom the time of registration on Tuesday 26 June until 19.00 hours on Thursday 28 June. Special transport will be arranged to take participants and their family members to the Victoria Hall. Full details will be given in the Conference Bookiet. 12. SOCIAL PROGRAMME CERN will offer a Welcome Cocktail at the International Conference Centre from 18.00-19.00 hours on Wednesday 27 June to Conference participants and their accompanying family members. There will be a special bus leaving at 17.30 hours from outside the travel ageney Auderset-Dubois, 16 Place Cornavin fopposite the main entrance to the Cornavin railway station) to bring the accompanying family members of participants to the Conference Centre for the cocktail. Return transport to the city centre will be provided at 19.00 hours. The íollowing optional evening excursions, of which details will be given in the Conference bookiet, have been arranged: Thursday 28 June 18.00 hours - 20.00 hours approx. No. 1 Visit to the Porcelain Museum at Nyon, with commentary in English. Cost: SF 15.- per person. No. 2 Visit to a wine "cave" in the Genevese countryside. Cost: SF 20.- per person including wine tasting.

Monday 2 3uly No. 3 Visit to the Bodmer Collection 18.00 hours - oí books and manuscripts in 20.00 hours approx. Geneva, with commentary in EngJísh. Cost: SF 18.- per person. No. t Visit to the University oí Geneva Observatory at Versoix with a talk and a film ín English. Cost: SF 15.- per person. Tuesday 3.luly No. 5 Visit to Watch Museum in Geneva 18.00 hours - with commentary in English. 20.00 hours approx. Cost: SF 15.- per person. No. f> Visit to the "Commanderie des Chevaliers de Malte" at Saconnex d'arve, with commentary in English. Cost: SF 15.- per person. For planning purposes, participants are asked to indícate on the attached qucstionnaire those excursions in which they would be interested. Forma! reservations may later be made at the desk of Wagons-lits Tourisme at the Conference Centre from registration on Tuesday 26 June until 18.00 hours on the day of each excursión. Further detaíls will be given in the Conference booklet. 13. EXCUUSIONS FOR ACCOMPANYINC FAMILY MEMBERS Two outings accompanjed by CERN wives will be arranged privately for the fa mili es of participants to the Conference. One will be a tour on foot oí the Oíd Town of Geneva on the morning of Friday 29 3une and the second a full-day outing to Aigle on Tuesday 3 3uly, includíng a visit to the Castle and lunch. Further details will be found on the attached informatíon sheet. Furthermore, half-day or full-day excursions into the countryside around Lake Geneva, or longer trips into the surrounding mountains, can be arranged by Wagons-lits Tourisme, agents for Key Tours. The Key Tours brochure is enclosed with this Bulletin. Enquiñes and reservations for these excursions may be made with Wagons-üts Tourisme, 4 rué du Mont-Blanc, Geneva, who will also have a special desk at the Conference Centre for the duration of the Conference or via the Porter of the larger hotels. Please note that a number of Key Tours excursions enter France, for which a Frenen visa is also necessary for those nationals mentioned in 9,
