The Worldwide Network of Port Cities PARTNERSHIP PROPOSAL Sponsors and Exhibitors
Celebrated for its rich architectural heritage and impeccably preserved historic district, Québec Canada s founding city is something of a rare gem in North America. Port activities literally take place at the foot of Old Québec, the first urban center north of Mexico to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Port of Québec is a natural deep-water harbor strategically located on the St. Lawrence Great Lakes Trade Corridor and a central hub for Canadian foreign trade. The Port is a continental gateway that has trade relations with over 60 countries. Québec City s maritime hub generates 7,964 direct and indirect jobs in the immediate area and some 13,252 direct and indirect jobs across Canada. Maritime and port activities produce $1.35 billion in direct, indirect, and induced economic impacts for Canada. Using best practices in City Port relations is an integral part of the Port of Québec s daily activities. That s why the Québec Port Authority (APQ) is a highly active member of AIVP s global network of nearly 2,000 members in over 50 countries. The APQ proudly invites the entire AIVP family to discover all the charm and potential of a city that provides a remarkable environment for port operations and boasts a rich history as the birthplace of French North America. As AIVP turns 30, let s come together to celebrate an international organization that has built an exceptional reputation on every continent. APQ is delighted to invite you to attend and team up with the 16th World Conference Cities and Ports, which runs June 11 14, 2018, at the Québec City Convention Centre. Some 400 participants from 50 countries are expected to attend. It s an opportunity to share the international port community s collective intelligence on City Port relations, with the added presence of the urban and maritime communities from along the St. Lawrence River.
WHAT IS THE AIVP WORLD CONFERENCE? Attended by hundreds of stakeholders, the AIVP biennial world conference is a major event for port and city decision makers, researchers and academics, and the economic and institutional partners who play a role in port development. The many theme-based talks and work sessions are aimed at: Sharing and developing best practices for City Port relations as well as underlying expertise Fostering constructive and inspiring dialogue between international peers by presenting projects related to daily port operations Sharing experiences and concerns among port and municipal decision makers and other economic and social actors, whether directly or indirectly involved in port community development Illustrating the value of ports to institutions and government authorities and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue between various decision-makers to spark new forms of concerted action AIVP, which turns 30 next year, is the only global network of port and port city decision-makers and partners. The organization has an inside view of the transformations experienced by ports and port cities around the world and helps its members implement new strategies to better manage changes that impact the spatial, economic, social, and environmental development of port cities. CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES The specific themes and objectives of the 2018 World Conference will be finalized and shared with you in the coming months. An in-depth discussion of the realities that govern industry, port, and city development and cohabitation in Québec and Canada will of course be on the program. The social acceptability of projects and of ports themselves will also be top-of-mind as we organize this major international gathering. QUESTIONS ABOUT BECOMING A PARTNER OR EHIBITOR?
