Abut Oakcrest Infrmatin fr Campers and Parents www.akcrestcamp.rg Oakcrest is an LDS girls' camp nestled in the beautiful Kamas Valley. Thusands f 7 th grade girls have attended Oakcrest each summer. Established in 1958, Oakcrest nw serves ver 90 Salt Lake valley stakes and is pen t yung wmen wh have cmpleted the 7th grade. The camp runs fr 10 weeks f the summer with 10 t 11 stakes attending each week. Activities include: archery, zip line, giant swing, target shting, crafts, hiking, bstacle curse, fam slide, spiritual classes, and mre. Meals are served in the large main ldge, and there are 13 cabins with bunk beds where the girls and their cunselrs sleep. The gal f all Oakcrest activities is t prvide spiritual grwth, whlesme fun, meaningful experiences, and imprved scial skills. Oakcrest prvides a wnderful setting away frm the wrld where the standards f the Church f Jesus Christ f Latter-day Saints are emphasized. Attendance & Eligibility: Yung wmen are invited t attend Oakcrest during the summer fllwing their 7 th grade year. This is a ne-time pprtunity fr girls wh have just cmpleted the 7 th grade and will be entering 8 th grade. Exceptins will nt be made fr thse wh have been accelerated r held back a year in schl fr any reasn, including disability r illness. Age is nly cnsidered as an eligibility factr fr girls wh are hme schled. In this case, hme-schled yung wmen can use birth dates t determine grade level. Fr Oakcrest 2018, the yung wman s birth date must be between September 1, 2004, and August 31, 2005. Oakcrest is an LDS girls camp and LDS dctrine will be taught. Yung wmen f ther faiths are welcme t attend. We encurage campers t cme fr the entire week f Oakcrest. Campers shuld nt plan n cming late t camp, leaving early, r cming and ging during the week. Campers wh cannt attend the entire week their stake is scheduled are welcme t register thrugh pen enrllment fr anther week. Open weeks will be psted n the website by April 1 st. Shuld an emergency arise which wuld require the camper t g hme early r arrive late, arrangements need t be made with the camp thrugh the stake leader (see Release Frms sectin). If a yung wman finds that she is unable t attend Oakcrest during her assigned week after registering with her stake, she may chse t g anther week if space is available. A camper wh desires t switch weeks shuld cntact her stake leader wh will then cntact Oakcrest t make arrangements. All changes must be made n later than tw weeks befre the week the camper is scheduled t attend with her stake. A registered camper wh finds she cannt attend at any time during summer can find anther eligible yung wman t g in her place; hwever, Oakcrest must receive the camper s registratin card n later than tw weeks befre the week f camp. In this case, payments fr replacements shuld be wrked ut at the stake level r between the families invlved, whichever is applicable. Oakcrest des nt take respnsibility fr making sure that the replacement camper reimburses the yung wman wh can n lnger attend. Oakcrest will nt accept last minute registratins r replacements n busing day. Oakcrest des nt issue refunds. Bullying and Disrespectful Behavir: Oakcrest has a n tlerance bullying plicy. Shuld a camper feel teased r bullied in any way, she is encuraged t talk t her cunselr wh will then address the cncern with all parties invlved. Bullying and disrespect that is nt reslved after discussins with Oakcrest staff will be grunds fr being sent hme. In this case, Oakcrest will cntact the invlved parent(s) wh will be asked t cme and get their camper(s). Oakcrest als des nt allw camp pranks r jkes n ther campers r cunselrs.

Camp Leadership: A 17-member Wmen s Cmmittee and a Priesthd Executive Cmmittee, wh reprts t a member f the Seventy, versee Oakcrest. Each year the Wmen's Cmmittee hires a staff f amazing yungadult wmen t lead and direct the camp. Campers will be under the supervisin f a cunselr at all times. Tw full-time service missinary cuples live n the premises t ensure the safety f the campers and the cntinuity f the camp. Chapernes: Female chapernes will be needed frm each stake t ride with the campers n the bus t and frm camp. Please ntify yur stake leader if yu are interested in being a chaperne. Cmmunicatin with Campers: Cell phnes are NOT allwed at Oakcrest Camp. T ensure the best pssible Oakcrest experience, persnal phne calls and persnal visits are nt allwed at camp. Campers lve t receive mail frm hme, s we encurage parents t write t their daughters. Please allw 3-4 days fr mail t arrive. Please send mail addressed t them c/ Oakcrest LDS Girls Camp, 5850 East Bench Creek Rad, Kamas, UT 84036. Parents will be called if their camper is ill, terribly hmesick, r if there are any ther majr prblems. If there is an emergency at hme, parents shuld cntact the stake leader fr help in cntacting their daughter at camp. The stake leader will then pass n the infrmatin t a member f the Oakcrest Wmen s Cmmittee. Please nte that emails sent thrugh the Oakcrest website are received by a Wmen s Cmmittee member in the valley and nt by the camp itself. COPE Activities: Campers will be participating in Challenging, Outdr, Physical Experiences while at Oakcrest. These include an bstacle curse, giant swing, zip line, target shting, fam slide, and hike. If a camper is unable t d ne r mre f these activities, please make a nte under Health Cncerns n page 2 f the registratin frm and explain why. Dress Cde: Mdesty and safety are taken seriusly at Oakcrest. Campers shuld nly bring clthes that fit the fllwing guidelines: Shirts shuld cmpletely cver cleavage, the midriff, and shulder, and shuld nt be tight. T prtect against tick bites, pants must be lng and withut hles (n shrts r capris). Shes must cver the entire ft (n sandals r flip-flps), and scks need t be wrn at all times. Lng scks must be wrn n the hike are encuraged at all ther times t prevent tick bites. In additin, campers are expected t fllw the dress and behavir guidelines listed in the Fr the Strength f Yuth pamphlet. Campers wh are nt dressed accrding t these standards when they arrive at the busing lcatin n their first day f camp will be asked t change befre barding their bus. Early Release/Late Arrival: Althugh discuraged, a yung wman may leave camp early r cme late if necessary. Campers will nt be allwed t check in r ut mre than nce during the week. Fr safety reasns, an Early Release Frm needs t be filled ut and signed by the parent if the camper is being picked up early. This frm can be btained frm her stake leader. The frm needs t be given t the stake leader by the Mnday mrning f camp. Campers will nly be released t the persn listed n the frm after they shw picture identificatin. Campers arriving late will need t let their stake leader knw the date and time they will be arriving s that she can alert camp leaders. Camp gates clse each night at 9:30 pm.

Electrnics: NO CELL PHONES r any ther electrnic devices shuld be brught t camp. Oakcrest is a wnderful place where girls can get away frm the wrld and fcus n spiritual and persnal grwth. In rder t maintain this spirit, the Directr will cllect all unauthrized electrnic devices and hld them until the end f the week. Digital cameras are allwed, but be aware that many cameras are lst each summer, s PLEASE LABEL THEM! Dispsable cameras are available fr purchase at the camp Trading Pst. Epipen Frm: The Oakcrest Epipen Frm is included in the camper s registratin packet. If yur daughter is bringing an epipen t camp, please fill ut this frm and attach it t her registratin card. Epipens are nt prvided at camp Health Cncerns: Dietary Needs and/r Fd Allergies: The Oakcrest staff can assist thse with special dietary needs (such as diabetes, lactse intlerance, celiac disease, nut allergy, r vegetarian preferences), but yur help is needed. It is crucial that parents write dwn any fd allergies and dietary cncerns n the registratin card. Parents whse daughters have dietary needs r fd allergies will receive phne calls r emails prir t camp t determine if special arrangements need t be made. Menus will be made available t parents upn request. If the camper has severe restrictins, the parents will need t send fd with their daughter t camp where it will be stred in the kitchen. The kitchen staff will prepare this fd fr her. Parents can send this fd in a small cler r bag that is labeled with the camper s name. All fd must be labeled as well. Clers and/r bags f fd shuld be taken t the pen enrllment table n busing day. Please see the website fr camp prcedures and plicies regarding fd cncerns. If a camper will be bringing an epipen t camp, the Oakcrest Epipen Frm must be filled ut by a parent and attached t the registratin card. Hmesickness: Hmesickness is a prblem fr sme campers. Our plicy is t help hmesick campers stay at camp fr as lng as pssible, s we d nt cntact parents until Tuesday. We deal with extreme circumstances n an individual basis. Please prepare yur camper t be away frm hme. Assure her that hmesick feelings are nrmal and felt by almst everyne, but sme feel them mre strngly than thers. Hmesickness can create bth emtinal and physical symptms. Discuss in advance what she can d t address hmesick feelings r symptms, such as fcusing n the fun things t d at camp, trying t help anther camper wh feels hmesick t, r praying fr Heavenly Father s help even befre she cmes t camp. Equip yur camper with the emtinal tls t deal with predictable hmesick feelings and physical symptms. Yu may cnsider arranging fr her t receive a priesthd blessing as part f her preparatin fr camp. Medical/Emtinal Cncerns: Fr the safety f the camper, it is imprtant that all medical and emtinal infrmatin be filled ut cmpletely and specifically. This is fund n the secnd page f the Oakcrest registratin frm. In mderate t severe cases, a member f the Oakcrest Wmen s Cmmittee will cntact the parent prir t camp in rder t gain a better understanding f these issues. Medical Emergencies: Shuld a camper require medical treatment at a clinic r hspital, a parent wuld be cntacted immediately. Oakcrest staff will make sure the camper is transprted t the clinic/hspital immediately, but a parent r ther adult family member will be required t meet the camper at the clinic/hspital. Once a family member arrives, the camper will be turned ver t his/her care. Oakcrest cntact infrmatin will be given t the parent r ther family member, s that he/she can cntact the camp and infrm them as t the camper s cnditin and whether r nt the camper will be returning t Oakcrest. If the medical prblem is reslved in time fr the camper t finish her stay at Oakcrest, she is welcme t return, but the family must prvide transprtatin.

Medicatin/Shts: Fr safety reasns, all medicatin (including ver-the-cunter items) must cme t camp in the riginal cntainer(s) labeled with dsage instructins. All prescriptin medicatin cntainers shuld be placed tgether in a Ziplc bag alng with a small card listing the camper s name and instructins fr each medicatin (dsage and time f day t be taken). A separate Ziplc bag (with instructins) fr ver the cunter medicatins can be sent as well. Oakcrest staff can nly remind campers t take their medicatins, but by law cannt actually administer them r frce girls t take them. Parents shuld review all medicatins and instructins with their daughters s they can take their medicatins n their wn. Prescriptin medicatin bags will be securely stred in the first aid ffice fr girls t cme and take there. The first aid staff will list prescriptin medicatins n a schedule spreadsheet and remind campers t take their medicatins based n the instructins sent. Over-the-cunter medicatins can be kept with their cunselr in their cabin fr easier access. Campers must be willing and able t give their wn injectins, as there is nt a registered nurse n the premises. Camper s insulin can be kept in a refrigeratr in the first aid ffice. New Medical Infrmatin: If a yung wman s medical situatin changes after her registratin card has been turned in, her parent needs t fill ut a New Medical Infrmatin frm and return it t her stake leader befre camp. This frm can be btained frm yur stake leader. Special Needs r Limitatins: Oakcrest des nt have wheelchair-accessible cabins r bathrms and uneven terrain and distance between activities make the use f crutches at camp very wearisme fr campers. Yung wmen with uncntrlled diabetes r ther severe physical, emtinal, r mental disabilities that prhibit full participatin are encuraged t cnsider stake camp r special needs camp instead f Oakcrest. Lcal stake/ward leaders d nt attend Oakcrest with their campers, and hired Oakcrest cunselrs are nt trained t handle severe disabilities. Campers wh cme t Oakcrest are expected t functin independently and be self-care. Sme yung wmen with physical r mental needs that require nly a little individual help can cme with a Laurel-age buddy. Any limitatins, even minr nes, need must be nted n the registratin card. Laurel-age Buddies: Campers with disabilities and/r special needs wh require a little individual help shuld attend Oakcrest with a Laurel-age buddy. Laurel-age buddies are nt charged a registratin fee. Parents and stake leaders shuld wrk tgether in selecting a buddy wh will facilitate the best experience fr the camper. Laurel-age buddies need t fill ut a Buddy Registratin frm. They shuld be listed separately frm the campers n the Stake Registratin List. The primary respnsibility f a buddy is t aid her assigned camper. She may nt be able t participate in all camp activities, depending n the needs f her camper and whether r nt there is sufficient time. Laurel buddies and the parents f the camper requiring a buddy must read and sign the Laurel Buddy Agreement. This agreement must be attached t the buddy s registratin frm. Lst and Fund: Mst items left withut a name will be kept fr three weeks and then taken t Deseret Industries. Valuable items, such as cameras, will be kept fr three mnths. Items labeled with yur stake s assigned clred duct tape will be returned t the apprpriate stake leader. Check with her first t find yur items. Luggage: Because luggage space is limited n the buses, campers are nly allwed fur luggage items: ne large duffle bag OR medium suitcase, ne warm sleeping bag, ne schl size backpack, and ne pillw. Each stake shuld distribute duct tape in their assigned clr either prir t camp r at the

busing lcatin n Mnday mrning. All luggage, backpacks, sleeping bags, pillws, and cameras must be marked with the camper s full name and parent s cell phne number n the clred tape. New clthes r valuable items shuld be left at hme. Meals and Snacks: Oakcrest ffers delicius, well-balanced meals three times a day. Several chices are ffered thrugh ht entrees, a salad bar, and a cereal bar. Campers are welcme t bring their wn snacks, especially thse wh may be picky eaters. Refrigeratrs and freezers are nt available t campers unless they have specific dietary needs. Persnal snacks shuld be labeled and will be kept in a sealed, critterprf cntainer. Snacks can als be purchased at the Trading Pst. Nut-Free Cabin: Fr thse campers wh are severely allergic t nuts f any kind, ldging is available in a cabin that is kept nut aware thrughut the summer. Campers and their rmmates wh wish t stay in this cabin shuld indicate this n their registratin cards under Fd Cncerns. All campers in this cabin (even rmmates withut allergies) will need t bring nly nut-free snacks and will be required t fllw allergy-aware guidelines, such as nt sharing snacks with each ther and always washing hands after eating. Questins and Cncerns: Please direct yur questins and cncerns t the stake leader listed at the end f this frm. If necessary, she can cntact a member f the Oakcrest Wmen s Cmmittee fr further assistance. Refunds: Because many f the camp expenses are paid mnths befre camp begins, Oakcrest is unable t prvide refunds. If a yung wman is unable t attend camp after she has registered, the stake leader may be able t help her find a replacement. She may als elect t cme n anther pen week. All changes and replacements must be made n later than tw weeks befre the beginning f her scheduled week. Oakcrest will nt accept last minute registratins r replacements n busing day. Registratin Infrmatin: Registratin Cards: All campers (including Laurel-age buddies) attending camp need t have a registratin card crrectly and cmpletely filled ut. Each card must have three signatures: camper, parent/guardian, and bishp. Please make sure each line n the card is filled ut legibly and cmpletely. Registratin cards with missing infrmatin will be returned t the stake leader wh will wrk with the ward leader r parent until all infrmatin is cmplete. Buddy registratin cards must have a cmpleted Laurel Buddy Agreement attached. Campers bringing epipens must have a cmpleted Oakcrest Epipen Frm attached. Each registratin card has a detachable bus ticket at the bttm. Please fill ut the bus ticket but DO NOT detach. Stake leaders will detach the bus tickets fr use n busing day. Registratin Fee: The registratin fee fr each girl frm a participating Oakcrest stake is $125. This fee cvers ldging, meals, transprtatin, staff salaries, and all ther camp expenses. Girls wh reside utside f an Oakcrest participating stake need t register thrugh Open Enrllment beginning April 1. The fee fr campers frm nn-participating stakes is $150. The registratin fee is nnrefundable.

Respect fr Camp Prperty: Campers will be respnsible fr their persnal cleanliness, as well as the cleanliness f their rm and their camp area. All campers will participate in daily husekeeping duties. Campers are expected t respect the natural envirnment by taking prper care f the camp and surrunding areas and keeping the grunds clean and free frm litter. Natinal frest regulatins are bserved at all times. Graffiti f any kind is nt allwed at Oakcrest. Rmmates: At Oakcrest, girls are assigned t cunselr grups where they have the pprtunity t get t knw ther yung wmen frm utside their stakes. Many yung wmen decide t cme alne t make new friends. Other campers like the security f having a friend in their grup. If a camper wuld like t rm with a friend, bth friends must have each ther s names clearly written under the Rmmate sectin n their registratin cards. N mre than tw girls may sign up tgether. Threesmes and fursmes will be split up. Shuld a change be necessary after the registratin cards are turned in, please cntact yur stake leader. She will need t make sure that the girls invlved and their parents apprve all changes. She will then cntact a member f the Wmen s Cmmittee t request the change. All changes must be requested by tw weeks prir t yur camp date. Please address any rmmate cncerns with yur stake leader as she is the ne respnsible fr hnring the girls rmmate requests. Shwers: We are frtunate at Oakcrest t be able t ffer ur campers ne shwer per week after their hike. Spending Mney: Suggested spending mney is $20 $40.
