Workforce Development and the Peruvian Mining Sector Downing Teal Study 2011, projected demand for mining professionals in the following 10 years Peru: 90,200 Austrade report 2013 In 2012, Peruvian mining sector directly employed 200,000 mining professionals Next 2 years, Peruvian mining sector will demand 40,000 professionals For every engineer, 4 mid-level technicians and 10 operators will be required 13 What are some of the mining skills gaps in Peru? What are some of the challenges that Peru is facing? 600 mining engineers graduate each year but only 50 find a job immediately. The remainder need further training before they are employable. Why?
