Row, Row, Row your Canoe - It's Float Trip Time This is one of the OKC Ski Clubs most popular Summer activity and you do not want to miss out. If you have never been to Beavers Bend State Park, you are missing one of Oklahoma s great jewels. The Country is beautiful and the river is equally as beautiful. Beavers Bend is about a 4 hour drive from OKC. We will be on the river, Saturday, July 16, 2016, around 8:30am. The second half of the trip is mostly calm water and some paddling is required. Because this trip is very popular, reservations are required and must be made by July 2, 2016. Families are welcome. The cost of this year s trip is only $70.00 per person and this includes the canoe trip, Friday evening get together and a great cookout after the float (Kayaks are an additional $10.00). Camping or motel fees are extra and are up to you to make your own arrangements. Contact Barry Campbell for more information: 405-824-4040 paintboothsrus@cox.net I will be very happy to send you a trip letter. Captain Barry The first part of the river is swift. Well, swift for an Oklahoma river! Because this river is dam regulated, the river flows well and takes an amount of maneuvering. So, this is not just a sit back and float river. So you might get wet and might have to swim a little, but hey that s what it s all about.
Final Ski Trip...A Trip to Remember Snowmass,Colorado...April 1- April 6, 2016 We left the remote parking lot at the airport right on time. We had five folks from Texas drive up to join us and they were at the bus plenty early. We also had one fellow fly into Denver and drive into Snowmass to meet up with us. This was a smaller group than usual, so we could spread out a bit on the bus. It turned out that all but two of the single guys got a bunk to their selves. Don t get used to it guys, this was an unusual circumstance. The weather was nice all the way to Snowmass. We arrived around 7:30 am on Saturday at the Enclave Condominiums. A few of the condos were ready, we thought we would have a couple of change rooms for the rest of us but as long as it took us scurrying around getting our luggage together, the staff had the rest of the rooms ready for us. Wow, that was a treat! Folks got in their rooms and got changed into Ski Clothes and hit the slopes. That first day we all stayed at Snowmass, but the next three days some went to Aspen Highlands, some to Aspen Mountain (Ajax) and some stayed at Snowmass. We were steps or a shuttle ride away from the restaurants and lifts. Each day the snow was different. We had lovely conditions the 1st two days, then the snow got tricky due to it being cold at night and warm during the day. We made it work, no one complained, we just skied and snow boarded with what was dealt to us. We had a fantastic fun condo party on Sunday eve, we all got to tell our snow stories and got to know everyone much better. Some of us skied a couple of hours on Tuesday and others enjoyed the morning and prepared for the journey home. The staff of the Enclave got all our gear down to the parking lot and ready to load the bus when we got there. The trip home was quite interesting. The plan was to get pizza in Denver to feed this hungry group. It started snowing on us as we loaded the bus, we did not know what to expect. We got on the road and made it to Vail Pass. Chains had to be put on the bus (thank you to all the guys who helped the bus driver get this accomplished). As we got started back on the road, reports came in that accidents ahead of us were in bad conditions, we knew the weather was putting us on hold for a few hours. After much studying of the routes, we back tracked and went south through Leadville and beyond. The most beautiful drive a person could ever see. Our bus Driver, Doug Williams, was awesome, he took great care of us. We picked up Subway sandwiches in a little town along the way. We got home about 9:30 am Wednesday morning. All was well that ends well! This was a great group of folks that enjoyed each other and took all in stride.
