Principal Activities During the year, the principal continuing activities of the consolidated entity consisted of higher education, research, consultancy and other commercial operations supporting or ancillary to University activities. Review of Operations The University reported a consolidated operating result of $32.2 million for the year (2007: $32.7 million), which was supported by continued growth in student numbers and strong research performance. A summary of the University s fi nancial performance can be found in Part 1 of the Annual Report. Significant Changes in the State of Affairs In the opinion of the Members of Council, there were no signifi cant changes in the state of affairs of the consolidated entity during the fi nancial year under review. Matters Subsequent to the End of the Financial Year There were no events subsequent to the reporting date that have a material effect on the fi nancial statements for the reporting period. FS 7 Likely Developments and Expected Result of Operations The consolidated entity will continue to pursue its primary activities of higher education and research while maintaining its fi nancial sustainability. It is currently undertaking a sustainable program of works to enhance the University infrastructure and the student campus experience. Environmental Regulation The Group s operations are subject to various environmental regulations under both Commonwealth and State legislation, which sets the minimum requirement the Group entity must meet. The University has adopted a Sustainability Policy and has various committees that consider compliance with relevant environmental regulations as part of their responsibilities, including the Sustainability Working Party, University Health and Safety Committee and Major Projects Steering Committee. Insurance of Officers The University maintains a comprehensive insurance program, which is reviewed and renewed annually. The insurance program includes Directors and Offi cers Liability insurance for members of Council, members of committees of Council and directors and offi cers of the University and controlled entities of the University. This report is made in accordance with a resolution of the members of the Council.
