Neighborhood Watch... 2 Please be sure to pile leaves by raking them to the edge of your lawn and create mounds at the curb of your home. If you have a huge pile of leaves, please be sure to disperse them throughout the entire curb. Do not put leaves in the road. If you have a commercial lawn service, please be sure to notify them of the schedule and rules. Brookfield: The Place to Live... 4 Do not put leaves in leaf bags as CSTD can not pick them up due to the equipment used for leaf collection. Be sure only leaves are in the pile. Stones, sticks, yard debris, toys, plastic bags etc. slow down the collection process and may damage our equipment. If brush and leaves are not out on scheduled pick up dates, we will not be able to make a special pick up. If the dates are missed or you don t want to wait for CSTD to collect your leaves and/or brush, The Brookfield Residential Yard Refuse Disposal Center is located on Pocono Road between Town Hall and the Fire House. A Big Thank You to the Community During the months of July through August, the entire community underwent a road transformation. The new roads are fiber-coated to protect the roads underneath for the next 6-10 years. This procedure was completed on all the roads except for Candlewood Shores Road. The cost to complete this project was a fraction of the cost of asphalting all the roads. This is the same process that Candlewood Lake Road underwent last year and came highly recommended by the Brookfield Public Works Department. The Board wanted to give a big shout out to the community to thank everyone for their understanding and their flexibility during this time. One resident stated During the road paving project people were asked to move their cars off the roads. In the past weeks it has been noticeable how many fewer cars are on the streets. It has been so nice being able to drive around without having to dodge cars. Let s see if we can keep that up! In the past week it's been noticeable how many fewer cars are on the streets and it's been so nice driving around without having to dodge cars. - Anonymous Speed Humps to be Installed You may have been taking a walk or a drive around the neighborhood and wondered what those orange posts were on the side of the roads. Those posts represent where CSTD would like to place speed humps and post signs. Before signs can be posted and speed humps installed, Call Before You Dig needs to assess the locations. The speed humps will now be permanent and on the roads year round. They will be placed in the locations that had speed humps previously and then there will be additional ones placed on various roads throughout the community. The placement of these speed humps has already been determined by the CSTD Board and Safety Committee based on community input. 2 Neighborhood Watch Candlewood Shores residents have always been the neighborhood watch dogs for the community. By being alert and reporting any suspicious activity, you ensure the security of all our residents. The more reports that are made to the Brookfield Police Department, the more likely we are at having more police presence in the community. Living in this community, you should always watch for suspicious activities on not only your property, but your neighbors as well. Let s watch out for each other. Keep an eye out for strange vehicles, loitering, alarms sounding, breaking glass or even a barking dog. Be sure to get descriptions of people and cars if you are able. As always, be sure car doors are locked, even if they are in your driveway, and that homes are also kept locked. Please report any suspicious activity to Brookfield, Police Department at (203)775-2575. It is better to be safe then sorry!

Halloween Spooktacular Get ready for Pumpkin Painting, Witch Hat Ring Toss, Eyeball Spoon Races, Monster Mash Dance Party and lots more fun, games, and activities. This year, CSTD s Halloween Party will be held on Sunday, October, 15th from 1-3pm. Costumes are encouraged and welcomed! The party is set to take place on the ball field. If the weather does not cooperate, it will be held in the community room. Light snacks, juice and water will be served. Please bring your favorite spooky treat to share with everyone. The Recreation Committee is also encouraging individuals to bring a nonperishable item for the Brookfield Food Pantry. Hope to see you there! It will be a Spooktacular time! Candlewood Shores Festivities Tag Sale with a Twist This year s fall tag sale is going to be a little different. In an effort to attract more people, the Recreation Committee decided to give it a little boost. It will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 9am 3pm. With a rain date of Sunday, October 8th from 9am 3pm. To make things easier for residents, there will be a donation truck coming to the ball field at 3:00pm, so whatever you don t sell can be donated and there is no carting it back home. We are also inviting all people who have goods to sell to set up a table. Whether you crochet, make bird houses or would like to do some face painting you are encouraged to bring a table to the ball field. If you own an at home business, come set up a display! Please, however, do not bring FOOD items as we need special permitting for that. To entice customers from outside Candlewood Shores, we have invited Roxanne s Gourmet Food Truck to serve breakfast sandwiches and lunch. We are hoping to get an ice cream truck and another food truck for lunch. So even if you aren t involved in the tag sale in some way, join us for breakfast or lunch! See you at the sale! Holiday Events Let s have some fun! Every year, CSTD Recreation Committee puts on a holiday lighting contest. This year it may be put on hold due to lack of involvement. Let s all come together and get decorating so we don t have to cancel this! As an added bonus, Santa Claus will be coming around on the firetruck with a special treat for the children. The Santa visit will take place on a date TBD. The annual cookie swap will also be taking place on a date to TBD, so stay tuned! So lets grab your lights and whisks and get into that holiday spirit! 3

Reminders Please refrain from placing grass clippings in the roads, as they cause a mess and can potentially cause weeds to grow on the curb lines. Please be sure dogs are leashed when they are outside and do not leave them unsupervised. Please be considerate of all and pick up your pet waste. Brookfield: The Place to Live Recently an article was written in the New York Times regarding all the things Brookfield has to offer; lakeside living, good schools, and soon their very own Town Center. The exciting part of this article is the mention of Candlewood Shores! One of our very own residents was interviewed for this. The link to the right will provide you with the full article: Happy reading! https://www.google.com/amp/s/ mobile.nytimes.com/2017/08/02/ realestate/brookfield-conn-lakesidehomes-good-schools-and-soon-atown-center.amp.html A Little Levity The Cynical Philosopher I read that 4,153, 237 people got married last year, shouldn t that be an even number? Relationships are a lot like algebra. Have you ever looked at your X and wondered Y? Money talks...but all mine ever says is good-bye. If you think nobody cares whether you re alive, try missing a couple payments. Today a man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation towards the local swimming pool. I gave him a glass of water. Makeover Moment CSTD is looking to update the amenities they have to keep the community looking great. So far, the basketball court has undergone a little bit of a transformation. A new basketball hoop was added to the court thanks to a generous donation from one of our residents! There is will also be more to come. We are looking to have the court re-asphalted and lines put on it. Come down and take a look. While your there, maybe play some ball. We hope you enjoy! Other updating projects are in the works. Stay tuned! 4

CSTD Welcome Packet Stay in Touch For up to date events and happenings visit us on our website: www.candlewoodshores.com CSTD Office: (203)775-1172 Cstdoffice@scalzoproperty.co m Scalzo Property Management: For community Related Issues call Travis Hyatt or Katie Book at (203)790-6888. For Tax and Water related issues call Lizz Finneran at (203)731-2403. To contact the CSTD Board go to www.candlewoodshores.com and click on the Board tab to find contact info for individual Board members. Suggestions were being made that new homeowners in Candlewood Shores should receive information about CSTD when they purchase a new home. Those suggestions were heard, so CSTD came up with their very own Welcome Packet to introduce new residents to the community. The packet contains a welcome letter, background information about CSTD and the Water Department and also CSTD Ordinances. Along with these things, we teamed up with BJ s Wholesale Club and are offering discounted rates on a membership to BJ s. Not only are new residents eligible for this offer, but so are current residents, even if you already have a membership! How exciting! If you are a current resident and are interested in taking advantage of this please stop by CSTD office to pick up the application. And let s not forget to give our new residents a BIG welcome! Winter Parking Regulations Winter months are headed our way, so it is important to keep in mind the CSTD rules and regulations for parking on the streets. This will allow our roads to be plowed in full and in a timely manner. Please abide by the following: All CSTD Roads - No parking is permitted during a snow emergency. Please park your car(s) in the driveway or at the recreation area parking if a storm is predicted. Clearview Drive South (1-53) - A Winter Parking Ban is in effect from November 15th - April 15th. No parking is allowed on the even number side of the street during this time. 5
