Our staff travels the globe searching out hidden-gem inns and lodges, taste testing bistros, trattorias, and noodle stalls, and discovering the trails and plying the waterways of each remarkable destination. When we come home, we separate wheat from chaff, creating memorable adventures that will connect you with the very best qualities of each destination. Unique, award-winning itineraries. Our flexible, handcrafted journeys have received accolades from the world s most revered travel publications. Beginning from our appreciation for the world s most breathtaking and interesting destinations, we infuse our journeys with the elements of adventure and exploration that stimulate our souls and enliven our minds. Whether you are looking for a challenging physical expedition or a leisurely cultural exploration, Boundless Journeys has exceptional itineraries to match your sense of adventure. Insider connections. There is simply no substitute for traveling with a knowledgeable insider, and our expert local guides will open doors for you that other travelers miss, like dinner with their extended family in Peru s Sacred Valley, or meeting an art scholar in Florence. Relationships developed over many years allow you to experience our destinations through a well-connected friend. Small groups. Although the camaraderie of a group of likeminded travelers often enhances the journey, there can be too much of a good thing! We tread softly, and our average group size is just 8 10 guests, allowing us access to opportunities that would be unthinkable with a larger group. Flexibility to suit your travel style. We offer both scheduled, small-group departures and custom journeys so that you can choose which works best for you. Not finding exactly what you are looking for? Let us customize a journey to fulfill your travel dreams. Customer service that goes the extra mile. Having trouble finding flights that work for you? Want to surprise your traveling companion with a bottle of champagne at a tented camp in the Serengeti to celebrate an important milestone? There is no request that is too big or too small for our staff to handle. From your first call, we guide you through choosing your trip, provide advice on preparing for your adventure, and hold your hand until you return home. Greenland UNTAMED HIKING ADVENTURE Thank you for your interest in this bold and rewarding Arctic adventure in Greenland. We have hand-crafted this tour from our own experience and hope you fall in love with the area as we have! THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS JOURNEY A short flight from Iceland and we find ourselves in a new world one in which roads are the exception and nature is practically untouched. This adventure provides the perfect introduction to Greenland s untamed landscape. We ll begin to understand the raw power of nature while exploring ancient glaciers, kayaking among glistening icebergs, walking the windswept interior, and traveling through fjords via Zodiac boat. Greenland may seem like an inhospitable place, but we ll visit idyllic villages and Inuit towns to meet local Greenlanders who eke out a living in this harsh climate. And no visit to Greenland is complete without seeing the Viking ruins of explorer Erik the Red. From Viking history to Inuit culture, and from blue-tinged ice to grassy valleys, after each adventurous day, we ll relax in comfortable (and warm) hotels before peeking outside to see if the Northern Lights have made an appearance. A couple of days in Greenland will challenge your assumptions, but 8 days will shatter your expectations completely. THE JOURNEY DAY 1: Fly from Iceland to Greenland Our flight from Iceland provides dramatic views of the icefields of Greenland and a glimpse of the adventures that await. Upon our late afternoon arrival at the Narsarsuaq airport, we are met by our local guide. The mighty nature that surrounds Narsarsuaq fjord waters spotted with turquoise icebergs and the deep valley that points directly toward the Greenland Ice Sheet beckons to be explored. We transfer to our hotel to check-in and have a briefing of what lies ahead. Settle in to your room, or stretch your legs with a short walk around this small community before our welcome dinner, where we ll toast the grand Greenlandic adventure ahead. Accommodation: Hotel Narsarsuaq, Narsarsuaq Meals: D Day 2: Qassiarsuk Village and Iceberg Bay Activity Overview: Walking and sea kayaking Activity Level: Easy Activity Length: 1-2 hours walking; 1-2 hours kayaking A short water transfer takes us across the Tunulliarfik Fjord to the small village of Qassiarsuk, founded in 1924. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017, this area is the most comprehensive and rich example of both Viking and Greenlandic farming histories. Several large, cattle-based Viking farms and numerous other sites can be found here, and it continues to be the core farming area for modern Greenlanders. We will walk through the village of about 50 inhabitants, mostly farmers, before arriving at Brattahlid, capital of Viking Greenland, where we will visit the ruins of the settlement founded by Erik the Red in the year 985. We ll hear about medieval farms and sagas of exploration while standing in the same spots that Erik the Red and Viking settlers stood over a millennium ago. After our Viking experience, we ll travel by 4x4 to the beautiful Tasiusaq farm. Here, just seven people live in relative isolation next to Sermilik Fjord, which is almost always blocked by icebergs coming from the Eqaloruutsit Glacier. We enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the windswept landscape before an optional kayak excursion in Iceberg Bay. This 2-hour adventure is suitable for all levels and brings us up-close to the magnificent icebergs that fill the bay. We will return to Narsarsuaq in the afternoon with time to relax or take a short walk around this small community. Accommodation: Hotel Narsarsuaq, Narsarsuaq Meals: B, L, D DAY 3: Qaqortoq Activity Overview: Walking Activity Level: Easy to moderate Activity Length: 1-2 hours We begin the day traveling from Narsarsuaq to Qaqortoq via speed boat, navigating the complex system of fjords and passing numerous icebergs, admiring the beauty of their vertical ice walls. Be on the lookout for eagles and hawks overhead and playful seals on the shore or in the water. Qaqortoq, founded in 1775, is the capital of South Greenland and home to more than 3,000 residents. It is often described as the most charming and attractive town in all Greenland, 6 Boundless Journeys 2018

and on a guided city tour, we will discover the beauty of its colorful buildings, awe-inspiring landscapes, and some of the thirty rock sculptures spread over the town. We will also visit the museum, the traditional kayak club, the church, and the only fountain in the country. In the afternoon, we have free time to relax or for further exploration. Dinner is on your own this evening, and you may choose to enjoy a drink at the local bar! Accommodations: Hotel Qaqortoq, Qaqortoq Meals: B, L DAY 4: Hvalsoy and Boat transfer to Narsaq Activity Overview: Hiking Activity Level: Easy Activity Length: 1-2 hours This morning we depart by boat for Hvalsoy or Whale Island. This island is known for the ruins of the 14th-century Hvalsoy Church, the best-preserved Greenland church and the site of the last written record in the ancient Greenlandic Norse language. The stunning fells and surrounding fjord have changed little over the centuries, and it s easy to see why the site was chosen for a church. After returning to Qaqortoq, and as South Greenland is dominated by its coast, we once again board a boat for a water transfer to Narsaq, considered a sub-arctic Riviera. Narsaq is one of the most striking agricultural towns in Greenland and situated in a fjord system known for hiking, mineral deposits, and cowboy history. Accommodations: Hotel Narsaq, Narsaq Meals: B, D DAY 5: Glacier Walk Activity Overview: Hiking with crampons Activity Level: Moderate Activity Length: 1-2 hours This morning, we set off towards Greenland s ice cap for our glacier excursion. We ll navigate along the glacier fronts by speed boat, where we can admire the beauty of their ice walls and the tremendous ice field that extends more than 6 miles into the sea. Upon arrival, we disembark on a sandy beach to meet our expert mountain guide and learn how to use crampons for our walk on the glacier. Our ice walk is suitable for all, and no experience is necessary. Our guide ensures the safety of the group during the trip while he shares with us his knowledge about the special characteristics of the glaciers in the south of Greenland. Using our crampons, we traverse one of the oldest masses of ice on the planet, exploring crevasses, drains, seracs, and other ice formations that give this glacier an amazing labyrinthine characteristic. This is a truly unique and unforgettable experience and is consistently a highlight for visitors to Greenland. Depending on the weather, we enjoy a picnic lunch near the glacier or on the beach. In the afternoon, we return to Narsaq. Accommodations: Hotel Narsaq, Narsaq Meals: B, L, D 800.941.8010 www.boundlessjourneys.com 7

DAY 6: Narsaq and Igaliku Activity Overview: Walking Activity Level: Easy to moderate Activity Length: 2-3 hours With about 1,500 inhabitants, Narsaq is the third-most populated town in South Greenland. During the morning, we ll have some free time to stroll around the city and discover the beauty of its colorful buildings. Options include a visit to the local market, fur shops, hunters harbor, or the Greenlandic Museum. Following lunch on your own, we voyage again by boat to Itilleq. Upon arrival, we start an easy hike to cross the Kongevejen, or Path of the Kings. Our destination is idyllic Igaliku, a small Inuit hamlet inhabited by 40 people and considered the most beautiful settlement in Greenland. Home to the country s the oldest sheep farming community, summer brings rolling valleys lush with flowers, grazing sheep, and tall grass all surrounded by snow-peaked mountains. A collection of sandstone houses, so different from the very distinctive wooden houses in Greenland, draw a portrait of a traditional settlement with an ancient history. Here, we ll delve a bit further into Greenland s culture and history, meandering among the ruins of Gardar, once the religious capital of Viking Greenland and the seat of the bishop, who owned the largest farm in the country. We learn about Anders Olsen, a Norwegian who settled and founded Igaliku in the 1700s, and see the unique Igaliku houses. Accommodations: Igaliku Country Hotel, Igaliku (shared bathroom) Meals: B, L, D DAY 7: Igaliku and Qooroq Ice Fjord Activity Overview: Hiking Activity Level: Easy to moderate Activity Length: 3-4 hours Early risers can enjoy the morning light on the Einars fjord and the quiet stillness of this remote environment. After breakfast, we walk through the village and explore rugged surroundings and the lush valley. We then hike back to Itilleq for a boat trip to Qooroq Fjord, what may be the most active and spectacular glacier in South Greenland. The power of nature is awe-inspiring as we are caught in the chaotic ice floating around us. We maneuver among these oversized ice cubes until the density becomes too great to continue and we must turn around to continue back to Narsarsuaq. After returning to the hotel where we began our journey, there is time to relax or walk around town. We recommend visiting the Narsarsuaq Museum, which focuses on the history of Viking settlers and tells the story of a little-known American airbase that operated during World War II. It s a tidy museum that showcases the town s history from ancient times. For those wishing for something active, a short hike from behind our hotel brings us to a view point where we can admire the fjord, Narsarsuag Plain, and Kiattut Glacier. We ll gather tonight for a farewell dinner to toast our successful journey together. Accommodation: Hotel Narsarsuaq, Narsarsuaq Meals: B, L, D 8 Boundless Journeys 2018

DAY 8: Hike the Flower Valley; Departure Activity Overview: Hiking Activity Level: Easy to moderate Activity Length: 3-4 hours We have saved what is perhaps the best hike, and certainly the most famous, for last the Flower Valley. The valley was formed by a retreating glacier and subsequent glacial sedimentation that was left in its wake. This spectacular hike among an abundance of wildflowers offers remarkable views of the Kiattut Glacier the perfect backdrop for our last photos of this extraordinary country. We return to Narsarsuaq and have time for a few last photos before our flights back to Iceland. Meals: B, L PLEASE NOTE: This is a typical itinerary, and actual activities may vary to take advantage of weather conditions, local events and to allow serendipity to play a hand in your experience. Accommodations are as outlined in the itinerary, although we reserve the right to change these should the need arise. See our booking terms and conditions for more information about our change policy. 800.941.8010 www.boundlessjourneys.com 9

WHAT TO EXPECT GREENLAND TRAVEL Travel in Greenland can be quite different from other destinations and requires a flexible attitude. While we do our best to adhere to the activities and visits listed in our itinerary, please note that our days are full, plans don t always run on time, and a firm schedule cannot be guaranteed. Our itinerary is subject to change so that we can adapt the journey to accommodate weather conditions, sea conditions, or technical complications. Greenland is the wildest country in the northern hemisphere; infrastructure is almost non-existent, and logistics can be challenging. Some activities may be cancelled because of weather or ice conditions. As they say in Greenland, the weather is boss. Roads are almost non-existen in Greenland, even in towns. Much of our travel will therefore be by 4x4 jeep and Rigid Inflatable Boat, which is safe, fast, and open air to fully appreciate the surrounding landscape. You will be provided with a special parka for water travel. TRIP RATING Boundless Journeys trips are designed for energetic and flexible individuals who like to be active and have a spirit of adventure and a positive attitude. Greenland: Untamed Hiking Adventure is rated 2, easy to moderate, on a scale of 1-5 (with 5 being the most strenuous). The walks and hikes on this trip are easy to moderate day hikes. Hikes generally are from 2-4 hours in length with minimal vehicle support. The terrain we cover is incredibly varied. We ll enjoy some gentle hikes, glacier hiking, and kayaking. Please be aware that hikes and/or activities may be changed last-minute due to climate conditions, which are highly unpredictable in Greenland. PREPARING FOR THIS TRIP It is very important that you realistically assess your physical condition with regard to the demands of this trip. The more well-prepared you are for the activities, the more you will enjoy yourself. As a general guideline, we suggest that you engage in easy to moderate aerobic activities (such as walking, hiking, jogging, or cycling) for at least 30-45 minutes several times a week for 4-6 weeks before the trip. If you live in a flat area, try to incorporate some stairs into your workout, or use a treadmill with varying incline capability (consult your doctor before undertaking any new fitness program). Please contact us if you have any doubts regarding your physical match with this tour. ACCOMMODATIONS Greenland s accommodations tend to be simple, but clean and comfortable. The hotels and inns we have selected for this trip are the best available, offering a sense of place and the necessary amenities. However, the accommodations on this trip are not typical of the Boundless Journeys experience, and even the nicest properties in Greenland do not come close to equaling the accommodations on other trips. There is one night in our itinerary that has shared bathroom facilities. THE GLACIER WALK A half-day glacier walk is included, weather permitting. All necessary equipment is provided, including crampons and ice axes. Your hiking boots will suffice. The mountain guides we hike with are experienced mountaineers with a great deal of knowledge about glaciers and safety procedures. After being fitted with gear and a safety briefing, we will head onto the ice itself for a unique perspective on the 800.941.8010 www.boundlessjourneys.com 11

importance and beauty of glaciers. If the weather makes this adventure unsafe, a traditional hike will be offered instead. TRAVELER S RESPONSIBILITY Trip participants have certain responsibilities to both Boundless Journeys and your fellow travelers. This includes understanding the conditions described in the trip itinerary and making sure it is appropriate for your interests and abilities, based on a review of the trip ratings, consultation with Boundless Journeys staff, and perhaps your doctor. In addition, trip participants are responsible for preparing for a trip by undertaking the proper fitness training. At the guide s discretion, a participant may be asked to leave the trip if the guide feels that the person s further participation may be detrimental to the individual or to other trip participants. If you have any questions about the difficulty level of the trip you have chosen, please contact Boundless Journeys to speak with one of our Destination Managers. SMALL GROUP TRAVEL Small group travel affords us the opportunity to seek out the most remote and exotic destinations on the planet. Often we are exploring these locales with just 8-12 guests. The nature of active group travel is such that not all participants have the same ability level or interests. Traveling at a pace that is comfortable for the entire group, with a spirit of flexibility and adventure, are all part of this shared experience. DRINKS WITH MEALS At Boundless Journeys we believe group dinners are a time to celebrate our day, while enjoying the best of local cuisine, and good company. In keeping with this spirit, we typically include local beer and wine with group dinners. If you prefer premium wine, or liquor, please feel free to order what you like, and you may settle your tab at the end of the meal. DRINKING WATER We provide purified or bottled water on all trips; however, in an effort to reduce waste, we strongly encourage you to bring a water bottle to refill where safe to do so. This will be the case in much of Europe, as well as a few other destinations, where tap water is safe to drink (please review Immunizations & Health Concerns for more information). In parts of the world where water must be purified, bottled water may be our only option. Here, we do our best to provide purified water from larger containers to refill your bottles, rather than using many small single-use bottles throughout your trip. This is just one small way we strive to travel more responsibly and we appreciate your efforts in helping us to protect the extraordinary places we visit. Boundless Journeys has taken the Travelers Against Plastic company pledge to promote sustainable travel and encourage travelers to avoid buying bottled water when they travel. You can take the pledge, too, and learn more about TAP s efforts at www.travelersagainstplastic.org. CUISINE Most restaurants in Greenland serve food similar to what is found in Denmark and other Nordic countries. Prices are on par with those in Denmark, and French fries often accompany generous main dishes. There are also a surprising number of Thai restaurants in Greenland, but no matter what type of cuisine is offered, most restaurants will feature reindeer, whale, and other traditional favorites on their menus. Please note: While the food in Greenland is healthy and nourishing, it is simple and may not live up to the international standards that you expect. Supplies are often hard to obtain, and restaurants may close unexpectedly requiring us to find last minute alternatives. If you travel to Greenland with this in mind, you may be pleasantly surprised. Vegetarians can be accommodated with advance notice, though choices tend to be more limited. Please inform us of specific dietary restrictions by completing your Guest Questionnaire. OUR GUIDES With a Boundless Journeys guide, your experience is that of friend and local adventurer. We believe strongly in working with local guides, experts in the areas to which we travel, and they hold the keys to unlocking the hidden delights of your chosen destination. Although you will never know they are at work the mark of a truly great leader our guides make magical things happen and add a dimension to your trip that you could not experience on your own. Over the years we have forged bonds with some of the best guides in the world, and we typically work with a small team of guides in each region. You will be informed of the guide for your trip one month prior to your departure. 12 Boundless Journeys 2018

BOUNDLESS BEYOND RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL At Boundless Journeys we are committed to exploring the world in a responsible way and continually seek ways to tread lightly across the unique landscapes and diverse cultures on this planet. Here are just some of the ways we aim to travel responsibly: MAKING CONNECTIONS On some of our trips, our guests have the opportunity to visit organizations working to protect the environment and improve the livelihoods of local communities. Whether it is bathing elephants at a conservation center in Myanmar, or enjoying a farm-fresh meal at a family-owned organic farm in Costa Rica, our guests form meaningful connections with the people and places they visit. GOING LOCAL Whenever possible, we use small, locally operated hotels that have sound environmental practices; groups dine at restaurants that feature fresh and authentic regional cuisine; we choose partners that strive for the highest standard of responsible practices; and we employ local guides and support local economies. CONSERVING WILD PLACES On many of our trips, we explore stunning natural landscapes where conservation is of the utmost importance. As visitors, we not only tread lightly, but actively contribute to the conservation of parks and protected areas. LOOKING FOR INSPIRATION? Here are just a few examples - one more involved, and one quite simple - of how our travelers give back to the places they have explored with us: The Botswana School Project was created in 2012 by Boundless Journeys guests who saw that there was a need for books, supplies, and computers in schools they visited in northern Botswana. A Bhutan guest donated baby outfits to families she met on mountain trails and in rural communities and schools. Two sisters who traveled to Peru donated school supply kits to a local school we visit on our Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu tour.
