This is an annual blanket staff request, to ensure that all upcoming event road closings have City Commission approval. J. Memorandum from Parks & Recreati.on Director 2. Li st of road closings for special events Several of the special events that are private, co-sponsored or produced by the City of Dunedin, require temporary road closings, which must be approved by the City Commission. In some cases, parts of State roads must be closed for events, which requires a permit from the Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT). In such cases, FDOT may request copies of the minutes of the City Commission meetings at which the closings were approved. All special event road closures are handled in consultation and with the approval of the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office. 1\. list of events and road closings is attached for the remainder of calendar year 20 11 and through July 20 12. The City Commission has historically preferred to address all of the closings at one time, rather than deal with them one by one throughout the year. City staft recommends approval of the attached 20 I 1-2012 Special Event road closures.
MEMORANDUM Robert DiSpirito, City Manager.. J\ ~ Vince Gizzi, Parks & Recreation Director~ July 25, 2011 SPECIAL EVENTS ROAD CLOSINGS The C ity of Dunedin directly sponsors or co-sponsors numerous special events throughout the year, several of which involve City Commission-approved road closings. Some of the events also involve the partial closure of state roads, which require Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT) approval. Road closure approval from FDOT takes approximately six weeks and involves submitting an application that includes the minutes from the City Commission meeting at which the road closure was approved locally. Each year, staff submits all road closure requests for the year to the City Commission as a single agenda item. Thi s is more effi cient than bringing all road closure requests to the Commission individually. All special event road closures are handled in consul tation and with the approval of the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office. Please find attached a list of special events that involve road closings to be considered for approval by the City Commission. YG/ck attachment pc: Sgt.
