AIP HKNW AD 2-7 KENYA 26 JUL 2012 HKNW AD 2.20 -LOCAL TRAFFIC REGULATIONS 1. Airport Regulations 1.1 At Nairobi Wilson Airport, a number of local regulations apply. a) All departing/arriving aircraft must report to Customs/Immigrations building before departure and after landing for formalities. b) In an effort to enhance safety at the main departure/arrival terminal area, all helicopters will proceed to the grass rehabilitated area between the control tower and taxiway C, directly opposite the AMREF /Flying doctor services hangar. This area will be a security check spot, separating helicopters from fixed wing aircraft. Note: When a local regulation is of importance for the safe operation of aircraft on the apron, the information will be given to each aircraft by the TWR over the RT.. 2 Ground Operations Service a) Aircraft shall contact tower on FREQ. 118.1 MHz for crossing of RWY and TWY clearance. Marshaller assistance available. b) A ground operations service has been introduced to cater for all aircraft operating in the manoeuvring areas except the runways. All ground movements including aircraft, vehicles and personnel intending to operate in the manoeuvring area shall contact tower ground. Coordination of aircraft emergencies between fire services and tower, works within the airport and environs shall be authorized by tower ground. The call sign is Wilson Tower Ground and the frequency 121.9MHz. 3. Parking Area for Small Aircraft - (General Aviation) Parking area available and as directed by marshaller. 4. School and Training Flights - Technical Test Flights and Use of Runways a) Runway 07 (Right hand Circuit) Circuit Training Aircraft: Take off Runway 07 Turn Cross Wind - After passing Belle Vue Drive in Cinema. Turn Base Leg - Game Park Dam. b) Training flights to maintain 6300 feet in the Circuit. Maximum numbers of training flights allowed in the circuit at one time are five (5) during day and 4 during night. c) Training flights on a special VFR authorization are permitted in the immediate vicinity but no aircraft is permitted to leave the Aerodrome pattern without permission. 7.1 Night flying training facilities Facilities for civil night flying training for a maximum of four aircraft at any one time will be available until 1730 UTC daily on request to aerodrome control Wilson. 8. Helicopter Traffic -Limitations No taxi hovering for helicopters. Helicopters to maintain a left hand circuit at 5900 feet on all Runways except on Runway 25 and 32. Obstacles of flood light masts approximately 15m in height have been erected on the apron. An aerial mast is also erected near the Customs Immigration/building. HKNW AD 2-8 AIP 23 JUL 2015 KENYA HKNW AD 2.21 - NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURES Pilots making an approach to runway 14 shall cross the area of the Forces Memorial Hospital Complex not below 5900 feet QNH (245 feet above the highest building) and are also reminded of prohibited area over state house and are requested to avoid flying over the parliament buildings and hospitals adjacent to the aerodrome. HKNW AD 2.22 - FLIGHT PROCEDURES 1. General 1.1 At Wilson Aerodrome, right hand circuits are in force except for runway 25 and 32. Maximum Circuit Speed is 115 knots and pilots are required to conform to the circuit pattern. Circuits will be made at 6300 feet QNH by day and by night. For helicopters, operations on the contra wise circuit at 5900 feet QNH are in force. a) Runway 07 (Right Hand Circuit). i) Circuit Training Aircraft Take off RWY 07 Turn Base Leg AIRAC AMDT NO. 12 turn cross wind-after passing Belle Vue Drive in Cinema Game Park Dam ii)aircraft joining from the North East including NE Access Lane join overhead or downwind for the same circuit as training aircraft. iii)aircraft joining from the West and North West join via the KBC Masts then to position 3 NM final 6500 feet QNH unless otherwise instructed by ATC. iv)aircraft joining from other Directions unless otherwise instructed by ATC,join Right OR Left Base Leg to position 3nm final at 6500 feet QNH. NOTE: 3 nm is abeam St. Aquinas Seminary Langata. This position is designated MONASTERY FINAL. 1.2 Pilots flying a circuit of the aerodrome shall keep as close as possible to the Southern and Eastern boundaries of the aerodrome. 1.3 Pilots making an approach to Runway 14 shall cross the area of the forces Memorial Hospital Complex not below 5900ft QNH (245ft above the highest building) 1.4 Pilots crossing the approach path RWY 06 of Jomo Kenyatta Airport on initial approach or departure to/from Wilson aerodrome shall do so over or to the west of the visual marker beacon, coloured in alternate black and white horizontal strips, situated approximately 4.6NM from Wilson aerodrome on a bearing of 197 (M). The beacon is surrounded by a white circle 100 feet in diameter marked on the ground. Aircraft shall cross the beacon at an altitude of not more than 6500 feet QNH. 1.5 Aircraft operating into and from Wilson aerodrome must use Jomo Kenyatta airport QNH whilst within the control zone and outside the Wilson Aerodrome Traffic Zone. 1.6 State house departure For Pilots to avoid airspace around Nairobi state house (HKP3) IFR flights from Nairobi Wilson to the North, North West, and North East shall fly heading 290 or less from Wilson airport for 4NM or until passing 9000 feet. 2. VFR Routes 2.1 North East Access Lane 2.1.1 Pilots of VFR aircraft operating to or from the East of Wilson Aerodrome are permitted, with approval of Nairobi Approach or Radar to fly between Eastlegh Aerodrome and Jomo Kenyatta from overhead Nairobi Wilson Airport until overhead the National Cereals and Produce Board grain storage silos designated as Silos Marker Position 011820S 0365310E and then on a track of 055 o MAG to the control zone boundary. Outbound aircraft will maintain an altitude of 6200ft while inbound will maintain 6500ft. Pilots are advised to remain in contact with Nairobi Radar or Approach. 2.1.2 To assist the pilot to route clear of Danger Area HKD13 and align with North East access lane, the roof of a building on the Ndula Estate has been painted black and white squares and designated as Ndula Marker position 010230S 0371400E, 25.5NM from abeam the threshold runway 06 of HKJK on a bearing of 055 MAG.

Note 2: Pilots are advised to be aware of departures/arrivals using JKIA RWY 06/24 respectively. Note 3: NEAL flights crossing the take off path of RWY 06 or Approach path RWY 24 JKIA are to do so not above 6500ft unless authorised by Nairobi Radar/Approach Control. 2.2 South east Access Lane 2.2.1 A lane Southeast of Wilson airport on a track of 324 MAG from the twin Bridges Marker position 013430S 0365532E (South Bridge painted black and white) to the "Visual Marker", 4.6 NM from Wilson Airport Nazarene University position S012400.01 E0364721.41 on a bearing of 196 MAG at a height not above 6200 feet when outbound and 6500 feet when inbound Wilson Airport. In respect of access lanes listed above Nairobi Approach will issue clearances to operate along the lanes and will pass traffic information on known traffic. When special application of IFR is in force in the access lanes, Special VFR authorizations will be issued and only one aircraft at a time will be permitted in a lane. Aircraft departing from Wilson Airport from runways 07 and 14 to operate in or through Area II must adhere to the Wilson Standard circuit pattern until abeam the threshold or runway 07, before setting course on 096 MAG or greater. This will ensure that aircraft remain clear of Area III. Pilots of VFR flights arriving and departing from Wilson Airport routing via the Visual Marker to and from Area II and crossing the extended centre line of runway 06 of Jomo Kenyatta Airport are required to comply with the following procedures: a) Remain clear of Area III by tracking over or to the West of the Visual Marker b) In-bound flights to maintain 6500ft until North of the Visual Marker. c) Outbound flights to maintain 6200 feet until 3 NM, beyond the Visual Marker. 2.2.2 VFR aircraft flying in Area II must note that terrain Clearance is not provided throughout the Area. 2.2.3 VFR aircraft are not permitted to practice holding procedure or operate in the holding area of the STONY and NGONG VORs unless prior permission is obtained from Nairobi Approach. 2.2.4 During the time when Wilson Airport is closed, the control of Area I and II will revert to Nairobi Approach. 2.2.5 Clearance request to operate on the Access Lane should be made to Nairobi Radar frequency 122.3 MHz. 2.2.6 Significant turning point on to final for landing runway 14 is at Shadrack Kimalel Primary School. No straight in approach or downwind extension shall be granted. Pilots to adhere strictly to control tower instructions. 2.2.7 All aircraft operating along the South east access lane should adhere to the following; a) Avoid Olooitikosh Aerodrome (013452S, E0364806) circuit pattern. b) Monitor frequency 118.0 MHZ for the activities at Oloitikosh and c) Ensure that their landing lights are on during transit (to alert the training flights Olooitikosh aerodrome See VFR Routes Chart: HKNW AD 2-12 HKNW AD 2.23 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. 1. All aircraft arriving at or departing from Wilson Airport are subject to security check and are therefore required to proceed to the terminal building or in front of Air Kenya building upon arrival or prior departure. 2. Flight plans for flights operating between Nairobi JKIA and Nairobi Wilson Flight plans filed on RT are allowed for Kenyan registered aircraft operating between Nairobi JKIA and Nairobi Wilson, under the Following conditions:- i) The request is made on the operational frequency, and the pilot allows the controller reasonable time of at least 10 minutes to prepare the necessary flight plan details for the purposes of provision of safe departure clearance. ii) The flight is carried out between Nairobi iii) JKIA and Nairobi Wilson only. The flight plan is deemed expired once the flight lands either Nairobi JKIA or Nairobi Wilson. 3. Caution is advised to pilots due to structures and buildings around the airport.
