The physical location is astride the Ruipa River in Kilombero valley, the project site is situated along TAZARA Railway approximately 360 km South East of Dar-es-salaam. Also accessible by 360 km tarmac road from Dar to Kidatu, followed by 100 km all weather road from Kidatu to Ifakara, and linked by 50 km of murrum road from Ifakara to Ruipa. Sugarcane to be cultivated from 13,950 hectares fields (including smallholder growers farms). The area has high irrigation potential from the Ruipa and Londo Rivers and other water sources. Sugar project with a sugar mill having potential of producing 100,000 tons sugar per annum expandable to 200,000 tons per annum. The factory to produce raw and white sugar, bio-ethanol and surplus electricity to grid. BENEFITS End products: Raw Sugar, Plantation White Sugar, IndustrialSugar, Molasses and Bioethanol The project is vital for sugar supply to the local Tanzania market with potential to supply in East Africa Community and Great Lakes region with population estimated at 300 million. The existing natural gas processing and transportation infrastructures in Mnazi Bay Gas field poses as an added advantage on the rapid development of any gas discovered in the area. BENEFITS: Supply gas to local, regional and international market through the nearby Madimba Gas Processing Plant linked to 542 km pipeline to Dar Es Salaam. Shared financial and operational risks between the Government and Strategic Partner to monetize the resource. Relatively available rich resource for enhancing Government and Partners return on Investment. Accessing the field is easy through the Mtwara Port. 5 NAME: Dar Es Salaam Ring Main Project City gas Distribution network IMPLEMENTING AUTHORITY: LOCATION: SHORT DESCRIPTION: Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) and Strategic Partner(s) Dar Es Salaam The project aims to construct gas distribution network in Dar Es Salaam with intention to connect approximately 30,000 households and convert about 8,000 vehicles to use CNG. Parallel to this, project also involves the construction of 3 main track line of approximately 65km and construction of 3 Mother CNG stations and 12 Daughter CNG stations. All these connections will be implemented into phases. Currently the project is under review where TPDC plan is to form 4 economic zones and franchise 75% of the business zones would be open to interested investor. BENEFITS: The business will expedite natural gas connection process and increase supply of gas to household, industries and institutions that will allow indigenous use of natural resources which is safe and environmental friendly energy Shared value creation including revenue to the Government and the interested investors Reduce the use of foreign currency for purchase of alternative fuels COST ESTIMATES: Investment worth US$ 118MM STATUS: Feasibility study and Detailed Engineering Design has been completed and currently the project is under review that will include franchise options that will create opportunities for investors. 7 NAME: Itweli Permanent Tented Camp IMPLEMENTNG AUTHORITY: LOCATION: SHORT DESCRIPTION: Tanzania National Parks Kitulo National Park Kitulo National Park is also known as The Garden of God because of its spectacular floral plains. It is a botanical heaven where more than 350 species of vascular plants which include 45 varieties of terrestrial orchids bloom especially in the rainy season of late November to April. The park is located on the peaks of Kipengere, Poroto and Livingstone Mountains. The park is also a watershed for the Great Ruaha River. The park has has a few species of big game but occasionally reedbuck and eland can be spotted. The park is great for landcsape and flower lovers. Witnits orchids and other flowers like the yellow-orange red-hot poker, aloes, proteas, geraniums, giant lobelias, lilies and aster daisies, of which more than 30 species are endemic to southern Tanzania cover the landscapes of Kitulo. Endemic birds and butterfly, frogs, lizards and chameleons are also found in the park. The park has great hiking trails and walking safaris are an enjoyable activity at this park. The walking trails are connected to the beautiful Matema beach on Lake Nyasa. Horseback riding is in the process of being introduced at this park. The park is accessible by road and by air from Mbeya from Songwe airport. NAME: IMPLEMENTING AUTHORITY: LOCATION: SHORT DESCRIPTION: Wamweru Lodge Tanzania National Parks Katavi National Park Katavi National Park provides a unique experience where one enjoys the true wilderness of Africa and great game viewing especially along the Katuma and Katisunga rivers, Lakes Katavi and Chada and at the paradise plains. Katavi has a high population of hippos and an estimated number of 4,000 elephants, some 1000 buffalo as well as other animals like giraffe, zebra, impala, reedbuck, lions and spotted hyena with a high number of bird species as well. Tourism activities taking place at Katavi National include game viewing, walking safaris, camping, picnics as well as bush meals. Cultural tourism is also popular at the park where near Lake Katavi one can visit the tamarind tree where the locals believe it is inhabited by the spirit of the legendary hunter Katabi (for whom the park is named) and offerings are still left by locals seeking the spirit s blessings. Katavi can be reached through chartered flights from Dar Es Salaam or Arusha and also by road. The project will comprise three integrated main investments components namely:- i) Feedlots and back grounding ranches ii) Slaughter houses, iii) Packaging and distribution. In all the three regions identified labor at location is not a problem. Development Corporation (NDC) in Joint Venture with a Strategic investor Arusha, Dodoma and Coast Region It is estimated that the project will generate USD 74.6 million per annum and provide employment to 630 individuals Size of land proposed for each project is 20,000 Ha. In total land size set for this project is 60,000 Ha. Feasibility Study in Place NDC is looking for investors to partner with in implementation of the project under Joint Venture. S/No ITEM REMARKS 10 NAME TIRDO INDUSTRIAL/ SME PARK IMPLEMENTING Tanzania Industrial Research and Development Organisation (Tirdo) AUTHORITY LOCATION Kimweri Avenue in Msasani, Kinondoni district, in Dar es Salaam SHORT DESCRIPTION BENEFITS STATUS `FINANCING MODE SIZE TIRDO needs, to stimulate the budding off of industrial development in the country. Such endeavors will be possible through the establishment of commercial ventures and development of entrepreneurs schemes. The schemes will be developed through the establishment of incubators for development and adopting various relevant technologies. The technologies will be both locally developed or the imported ones. The development of technology is expected to be done through the use of incubators and industrial parks among others. The incubators will also provide a forum for developing scientist and personnel with skill necessary for fostering industrial development or technologies. The industrial park incubators will be the sources of revenue for TIRDO apart from being the platform for promoting industrial development in the country. The project consists of four blocks each with four levels for incubation space and offices. The first three blocks to provide facilities for agro-processing, renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, metallurgy, NDT and leather and textiles. The fourth block will be for wood technologies. To TIRDO: the project will provide a long term intellectual/academic related basis, show casing, supporting facilities, agro processing, electronics technology and other industrial products. Also wood, leather and textile products. Key stakeholders: Provision of additional employment opportunities for people surrounding TIRDO compound. To the government: the government will be free to use the released share of the budget which was supposed to go to TIRDO for other government development plans. it will also accelerate industrial development as spearheaded by the government. The project has been approved by Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Treasury Registrar. 11 NAME: ATCL Maintenance & Engineering Services IMPLEMENTI G AUTHORITY: LOCATION: SHORT DESCRIPTION: AIR Tanzania Company Limited Kilimanjaro Maintenance Facility (KIMAFA) Kia Aircraft Maintenance Facility; is a premises whereby overhaul, repair, inspection or modification of an aircraft or aircraft component. Maintenance may include such tasks as ensuring compliance with Airworthiness Directives or Service Bulletins. ATCL is acquiring long haul jets and the current maintenance facility which is located at JNIA terminal 1 cannot accommodate such kind of aircrafts. Therefore the company in planning to have a maintenance facility which will have the capacity to handle such kind of equipment s.
