(D) UNITED FLIGHT GROUP (up to 83 seats total) By 9:45am Arrive at San Francisco International Airport meet one of your World Projects Tour Managers (who will accompany the group) and check-in with United Airlines for your flight to Washington-Dulles. A $20 cash handout will be distributed to purchase dinner to eat during the flight. 1:00pm Depart San Francisco for Washington-Dulles on United Flight #727. 9:15pm Arrive into Washington-Dulles International Airport collect baggage and board the buses. Transfer to the National 4H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, MD (just north of Washington D.C.) ~11:15pm Arrive at the National 4H Conference Center and check-in time to settle into rooms. DAY TWO: Tuesday, April 4, 2017 WASHINGTON D.C. (B) 10:00am-11:00am Breakfast at the conference center. Morning Possible rehearsal at the 4H Conference Center. Afternoon Board the coaches and transfer to Arlington National Cemetery. Possible Wreath-Laying Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery (subject to approval from ANC). Time to visit Arlington National Cemetery. Late Afternoon Transfer to nearby Alexandria. Enjoy free time to explore charming colonial-area downtown Alexandria and have dinner on own. Evening Return to the 4H Conference Center.
DAY THREE: Wednesday, April 5, 2017 WASHINGTON D.C. (B,D) Performance 7:30am-8:30am Breakfast at the conference center. 9:00am Assemble in the lobby of the hotel in performance uniform with instruments. Load the coaches and transfer to the WW II Memorial. ~10:00am Arrive at the WW II Memorial and set-up for performance. 10:30am-11:00am Stand-up PERFORMANCE (~30 minutes) at the World War II Memorial on the National Mall. Afterwards, pack-up instruments and change clothes on the bus or nearby restrooms. ~12:00n Transfer to drop-off point TBD along the National Mall. Afternoon Enjoy time to explore the museum of your choice on the National Mall (possibilities include the National Air & Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art, the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of the American Indian, etc.) Lunch on own at the museum of choice or along the National Mall. 3:30pm Board the coaches at designated area and return to the conference center to get ready for this evening. ~4:30pm Arrive back at the conference center time to get ready for this evening. 5:45pm Meet in the lobby and board the coaches - transfer to the Washington, DC Docks. 6:45pm Arrive at the Washington Docks and board your boat. 7:30pm-10:00pm Enjoy a dinner-dance cruise along the Potomac River. Afterwards, board coaches at the dock and return to the conference center for the evening. ~11:00pm Arrive back at the conference center. DAY FOUR: Thursday, April 6, 2017 WASHINGTON D.C. (B,D) Performance Morning Breakfast at the conference center. Check-out of the conference center and load baggage and instruments on to the coaches. Transfer to military base TBD (possibly the Marine Barracks, Ft. Myer, Bolling Field, or the Navy Yard). Activities at military band location TBD (dependent on availability) possibly watch a rehearsal/performance and/or enjoy a workshop with members of a US military band. Afternoon Lunch on own at location TBD. This afternoon, transfer to tonight s concert location, the Schlesinger Concert Hall in Alexandria. 2:00pm-4:00pm Group rehearsals at concert venue. Afterwards the rehearsals, transfer the Hyatt Regency Crystal City (official hotel for all marching groups) check-in upon arrival and time to get ready for this evening. Evening Dinner as a group (possibly at the Schlesinger Concert Hall). 7:30pm-9:30pm PERFORMANCE at the Schlesinger Concert Hall in Alexandria this concert will be shared with an ensemble from California (College Park HS) as well as a local ensemble (possibly from a local military band or university). DAY FIVE: Friday, April 7, 2017 WASHINGTON D.C. (B,D) Performance 7:00am-8:00am Breakfast at the hotel. 8:15am Assemble in the lobby of the hotel with instruments and performance attire. Board coaches and transfer to Mt. Vernon home of George Washington. ~9:00am Arrive at Mt. Vernon and get ready for the performance. 9:45am-10:15am Stand-up PERFORMANCE at Mt. Vernon. Afterwards, return instruments to the coaches and change clothes on the coaches. Enjoy time to tour the house and grounds of Mt. Vernon. Afternoon Transfer to the Pentagon City Mall - lunch on own. Transfer to the National Mall. Enjoy time to explore a 2 nd museum of your choice on the National Mall (possibilities include the National Air & Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art, the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of the American Indian, etc.) Evening Dinner as a group. Transfer to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and take seats. 8:00pm Enjoy a performance of the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center - program to include Shostakovich s 5 th Symphony, Britten s Four Sea Interludes from Perter Grimes, and Prokofiev s 1 st Piano Concerto. After the concert, return to the hotel. DAY SIX: Saturday, April 8, 2017 WASHINGTON D.C. (B,L,D) Performance Morning Breakfast at the hotel. Assemble in the lobby of the hotel with instruments and in performance attire. Transfer to the parade staging site. 10:00am-12:00n CHERRY BLOSSOM PARADE in Washington, DC. Marching PERFORMANCE (~45 minutes) as part the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. Afternoon After the parade, return to the coaches and transfer to the hotel to change clothes and put away instruments. Enjoy a box lunch. This afternoon, enjoy a visit to the National Archives (time permitting). 5:00pm-6:30pm Farewell dinner as a group at Carmine s. After finishing dinner, load your coaches and depart on a guided Monuments after Dark Tour. Afterwards, return to the hotel. Enjoy a night tour of Washington, DC including stops at the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and Iwo Jima Memorial. You will also drive by the White House and the US Capitol Building.
DAY SEVEN: Sunday, April 9, 2017 WASHINGTON D.C. SF BAY AREA (B) 8:00am-9:00am Breakfast at the hotel. 9:30am Check-out of the hotel and load the coaches - transfer to the National Air & Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center (near Dulles International Airport). 10:30am-12:30pm Enjoy a visit to the National Air & Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center (home of the Space Shuttle Discovery and a Concorde, among other spacecraft and aircraft). Afterwards, transfer to nearby Reston Town Center. 1:00pm-3:00pm ~3:30pm Lunch and shopping time on own at Reston Town Center. Afterwards, transfer to Washington-Dulles International Airport. Arrive at Washington-Dulles International Airport. VIRGIN AMERICA FLIGHT GROUP (up to 55 seats total) Check-in with Virgin America for your flight to San Francisco.
