Delicious vegetarian meals are prepared in the beautiful onsite kitchen by professional chefs who use the food grown on the property. Basic Hula Class Learning the art of hula takes years of practice and dedication to the culture. Basic Hula will give you knowledge of coordination and balance. Kumu Mike Matsu will introduce you to the five basic hula steps, hand & foot coordination, and fun basic hula. GUIDELINES FOR BEING HERE (from Hawaii Island Retreat Center) In keeping in harmony with this sacred land, this is a non-smoking property. Guests can walk over to the public access trail or down by the ocean to smoke. The group organizer will inform all guests that smoking will be confined only to the smoking tent or access trail. Evidence of smoking in the guest rooms will incur an additional cleaning fee of $300. Beer and wine in moderation may be enjoyed at meal times. We can offer you beer and wine with dinner. For additional consumption of drinks, there are bars and restaurants in the towns of Hawi and Kapaau, each 1 ½ mile drive from the lodge. To honor each person s opportunity to appreciate and enjoy quiet and serenity, 10:30 pm will be lights-out in public areas. We strongly encourage you to use your little key flashlight to take night walks and revel at all the stars. You may also choose to bring a flashlight. We are truly sustainable and green, growing much of our own food, creating our own power and water. Here is an opportunity to come and live lightly on the earth. There is plenty for use and nothing to waste. To help honor our sustainability, please turn off lights, fans, computers when you are not using them. Since we are organic, we do not use harmful pesticides. It is best to keep food and food scraps out of rooms as they invite insects and rodents. If you have snacks in your room, ask us for zip loc bags for safe storage. Maid service is available upon request in the guest rooms. Please contact us for additional towels.. Rooms that have been abused or are excessively dirty will incur an added cleaning fee of $200 per affected room. There will be a $15 fee for any lost room keys or gate openers. DIRECTIONS TO HAWAII ISLAND RETREAT From Kona International Airport, turn left onto Hwy. 19 and drive north toward Waimea. After about 30 minutes, turn left at the T on Kawaihae Road toward Kawaihae Harbor Drive one mile, and then turn right at the sign for Hawi on Hwy. 270 Continue north on Hwy. 270 for 22 miles until you reach Hawi Drive through Hawi town and continue for 1.6 miles toward Kapa au Pass the Aloha Gas Station on the left side At the end of the white fence, look for Fig s Mixed Plate on your left Just after Fig s Mixed Plate, past the guard rails, turn left at Maluhia Road it is a graveled road and there will be Shoreline Public Access and Hawaii Island Retreat signs at the turn. Follow these signs. Turn left at the T through the tunnel of trees, then turn right. Continue on for another half mile. Bear right when the road splits and enter the Porte Cochere. You have arrived
