May 2014 Traveling in the Past and Present Tallahassee Region Antique Automobile Club of America Madison Down Home Days Car Show Submitted by Craig McCollum Only 27 vehicles registered for the Madison Down Home Days car show on April 19th, 2014, likely due to the rain and cool weather. Pictures prove that at least some of our TRAACA members are a hardy bunch. The rain let up for the parade and show but no sun. Most members drove in the parade. Two members each won a $50 cash prize. Can't give their names due to a non-discloser agreement. Every entry won a prize. I saw our members with umbrellas, model trucks, oil change certificate, tools, etc. I plan to donate my prize to the 7th Annual Wally Bentley Memorial Watermelon Festival car show. Photos follow. Page 2 Tallahassee Chassee May 2014 TALLAHASSEE REGION, AACA at 7:30 AM on April 18 th. MEETING MINUTES March 08, 2014 Tallahassee Antique Car Museum (Old Location) There were approximately 46 members present. With two guests from Wal-Mart; Greg and Kim. Opening Prayer: Ed Shuler Welcome: Don Pumphrey Don welcomed everyone. 50/50 Drawing: Lori Forster The winner was Sue Aigotti. Announcements & Reports: Don Pumphrey 1. Don told about Jim and Jean Healy having Club shirts and caps available for members. 2. Don introduced Kim Shaw representing the North Thomasville Road Wal-Mart store. Last year, Wal-Mart sponsored a car show at the store with proceeds going to a charity. The show was not very well presented and they were here to ask for our assistance about how to put on a show and when would be a good date for this year. We determined that May 17 th would be suitable for us and them. Norm had earlier set a short meeting after this meeting for the Monticello Watermelon Festival committee and invited them to join in. We have made no commitment to do any more than just to participate on an individual basis. Their charity this year will be the Children s Miracle Network at Shands Hospital. 3. Craig Brown noted that the Thomasville Rose Show will have a car show as part of their festivities on April 26 th. 4. Garage Saturday will be held April 12 th and 26 th at Neal Davis shop in Quincy. Project will be to install a new wiring harness in Dennis Tober s 1940 LaSalle beginning at 8:30 AM. Show Committee: Norm Madsen Norm distributed flyers for the Monticello Watermelon Festival Open Car Show on Saturday, June 21, 2014. There was a short planning meeting on this after our club meeting. Other Committees: No reports. Coming Events: Breakfast at the Cracker Barrel Friday, April 11, 2014 at 8:30 AM. Quincy Gulf Station Friday, April 11, 2014 at Noon. See our website at http://traaca.org for more events. Click on Club News and Calendar Also, visit the National website for National AACA activities at www.aaca.org. Old Business: None. New Business: Don Pumphrey The Executive Board met on March 6 th and recommended that the club should look into the cost and availability of buying a wireless microphone that could be used with our existing sound equipment. This would be of the type that clips on clothing and would not have to be held. The club approved this last month. Don found a unit that is compatible with our existing amplifier and put it in use today..program: Gary Edwards Gary presented an excellent program describing the cars of the Floyd Garret Muscle Car Museum in Sevierville, Tennessee. He gave an overview of the muscle cars of the sixty s. He even spoke about non-pontiac cars! Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 beginning at 6:00 pm at the OLD Tallahassee Antique Automobile Museum Committee Reports: Sunshine: Pam Pumphrey. Page 4 Tallahassee Chassee May 2014 From your Reporters in the field: Ramblings and Roving's of Junkyard Dog & Fluffy - with Stray Dogs This guy had "stuff" in his dad's garage By Jack Hanbury When the dogs get that call or hear of a place we need to see, that's when we "Gotta go!" The "stuff" this time was south of Tallahassee. Remember what "stuff" is? This guy had his "stuff" in his dad's garage. There were Chevy motors, doors, fenders, tail gates and many more parts. In his main shop we found a 1965 Chevy pick-up. It was in the process of being put back together. Probably using some of the parts mentioned before. There were many working tools, jacks and an old machine for checking old electrical things. I think it was called a diagnostic machine. It had not been used for many years. Anyway, always remember, wherever you go, there you are! Keep on sniffing. The Dogs; now and always.
