A Member of The Bonsai Federation of Australia Inc. Association of Australian Bonsai Clubs Ltd. Garden Clubs of Australia Inc. Mini Newsletter No:98 July.August 2017 Meetings held on the 4 th Saturday of the month at Forest Community Arts Centre, Darley Street, Forestville, commencing 1.00pm President s Report Asuccessful AGM was held in June with the election of a new committee. 18 members were present and 7 apologies were received. Our president and vice-president Glenda and Evelyn stood down after a busy two years and Irene, who has filled in as treasurer after Eddie s resignation following illness, also stood down. We thank and congratulate them on a job well done. Our annual Bonsai Show this year will be a small one to be held in our usual meeting room at the Forestville Arts Centre on 19 th August from 10 am to 4 pm We hope you will support this by bringing your tree on the morning of the show between 8.30 and 9.30 and picking up again in the afternoon between 4 and 4.30. There will be a demonstration table and hope to encourage local folks to call in and see our bonsais and to spread the interest in Bonsai in the area. Volunteers will be needed as usual to help set up from 8 am and to clear up before 5, also to supervise the trees during the day and to give information to interested folk. I agreed to stand for president and Barry Reeve who has been a wonderful helper in our club in the last few years agreed to stand for vice president. Glenda agreed to do the books for us and Alex Bennett remained as Secretary. We have a supporting committee of Ross as Newsletter Editor, Valerie Bray, Di Cox and Irene Galvin. Millie Hawley volunteered to help as Membership Secretary. With the ongoing support of all you members we will endeavour to maintain our club so that we can all enjoy our informative and social club meetings and continue to learn and develop our bonsais as we would like. Our aim in the coming year is to increase our membership especially among younger and more energetic enthusiasts of bonsai. It was decided at the meeting that future AGMs will be held in November prior to our Christmas party. This is to give an incoming committee time to prepare for our annual show. This year we will be holding a small show free to the public in our usual meeting room. This will be on Saturday 19 th August as the room is not available on the 4 th Saturday and will be used to promote our club in the area. We hope you will choose a suitable tree to exhibit and join in the days activities. Our next meeting on July 22 nd will be an opportunity to bring along a tree to work on for the show. At this meeting we will also see some slides and hear a talk from the members of our club who accompanied Megumi on the trip to the World Bonsai Convention in Japan. Prior to the AGM Steve Reeve (Barry s son) from the Central Coast Bonsai club presented us with a very informative but scientific aspect of what our bonsai need and why. I think we all learned something new and enjoyed Steve s dry wit as he presented his ideas from a more scientific point of view. Please feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have any ideas for our club to pass on. Look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting. Thank you Jacki Gracey Bonsai Society of Sydney -www.bonsaisocietysydney.org.au Newsletter 98-Page 1
