CENTRAL STUDIO TECHNICAL INFORMATION Revised September 2008 GENERAL Originally opened in 1978 Central Studio, based on the grounds of Queen Mary's College, was re-launched in 1999 following substantial refurbishment made possible by a National Lottery grant. The centre regularly programs small scale touring theatre and dance, children's theatre and live music including blues, jazz, folk, rock and world. Central Studio also provides a base for the colleges performing art department's activities. In addition to this Central Studio also runs several youth theatre and dance groups for 8-18 years olds. Facilities include; Studio theatre, recording studio, dance studios and fully licensed bar. All of which are available for public hire. Location. Central Studio (Cliddesden Road) is about one mile outside the town centre on the grounds of Queen Mary's College (See attached map). Rail. Nearest station, 20 minutes walk. Road. M3 Junction 6 to Basingstoke. At Black Dam turn left, at Hackwood Road turn left, at Venture turn right, at Golden Lion turn right into Cliddesden Road. Parking. There is free parking on the college grounds right next to the Studio. Access. Access to the stage is made easy by a direct flat floor from outside the scene dock straight onto the stage. Dressing Rooms. There are two dressing rooms each equipped with shower (but please bring your own soap and towel), toilet and makeup mirrors. Show relay is fed to the dressing rooms. We also have an Iron and board and the scene dock has a washing machine and tumble dryer. Performance Space. The studio theatre has a maximum capacity of 130 with retractable seating banks on the three sides of the performance space. Tables and chairs can also be added as a 'cabaret' style for music and comedy events. Length of stage - 10,500mm (34'5") Width of stage - 5,800mm (19'1") Height to bottom of rig - 6,600mm (21'8") Flooring and Rostra. The floor consists of black vinyl set on concrete. We have 6 no's of 2440mm by 1220mm (8' by 4') sections of steel deck. These sections can come with 305mm (1') or 793mm (2'6") legs. These also come with a set of two treads. The steel deck is mainly used for music and comedy events. Drapes. The back wall has a black serge backcloth on curtain tracks or alternatively these can be opened and the painted white wall behind can be used as a cyclorama. PAGE 2
LIGHTING The studio has a 48mm barrel fixed rig with 96 no's of internally wired 15A circuits including 12 no's of dip sockets located around the stage floor. Access to the rig is by a Genie Scissor Lift, operated by the theatre technicians. Control 96 ETC Express 48 / 96 lighting desk. The Express has 48 channels or 96 wide, 24 programmable scene master faders and timed memory. Dimmers. 3 no's of ETC Smartrack dimmers. The dimmers are positioned on the gallery near to the lighting control position. There is also an additional 63A SingleØ on ceeform socket situated in the scene dock. There is a petrol station at the end of the road for quick snacks and below is a short list of alternatives in the nearby area.
