SELF-DRIVE GENERAL INFORMATION: You are responsible for all required paperwork and relevant costs. Please ensure that your mobile phones are set up with International Roaming from your country of origin (to both dial out and to receive calls or texts) to facilitate ease of communications in the event of an emergency, while travelling in South Africa. Should you choose to purchase and use a local SIM card within your mobile phone, this will not apply. All directions provided are correct to the best of our knowledge. Due to circumstances beyond our control, signage may disappear, and roads may become damaged, resulting in unforeseen detours or delays. Prior to departing on safari, please provide Maputaland Travel with the relevant arrival and departure details, as well as a contact number. Should you not arrive at Rocktail Camp due to losing your way, becoming stranded or experiencing technical difficulties with your vehicle, it is not the responsibility of Maputaland Travel to recover or search for you. We will do everything possible to facilitate the hiring of someone to recover and/or assist you. All costs incurred will be for your own account and Maputaland Travel cannot be held liable for any delays or missed services. Maputaland Travel will not accept any liability, responsibility or claim for compensation, for any incident or accident involving you, your vehicle and/or any third party. If hiring a car, requirements may vary depending on country and/or car-hire company. We highly recommend that you are covered by comprehensive travel insurance as per our booking terms and conditions. IMPORTANT ACCESS INFORMATION: Coastal Cashews is the meeting/parking point for all guests requiring transfers to and from the camp. From here it is an approximately 40-minute drive to the Manzengwenya park access gate into the Maputaland Coastal Forest Reserve and Rocktail Camp. This gate opens at 06h00 and closes at 18h00 it is not possible to enter the Reserve, nor exit from the Reserve, outside of these operating hours. This gate is under stringent control by the National Parks Board and Rocktail Camp has no control over this access point. Due to park regulations, there can be no movement of vehicles (transfer vehicles or self-drive vehicles) outside of these times. The scheduled complimentary transfers from Coastal Cashews to Rocktail Camp are at the following times: 10h30, 13h00 & 15h00. If making use of a private transfer (costs apply), the latest transfer departure from Coastal Cashews is at 17h00.

Should you be travelling on a self-drive basis to either the camp (4x4 vehicles) or to the Coastal Cashews pick-up point (2x4 vehicles), you need to have reached Pongola by 15h30 and Hluhluwe or Jozini by 16h00 at the latest, as it is an approximate 2.5 and 2 hour drive respectively to the park gate. Should you be delayed for any reason or reach Pongola after 15h30 and Hluhluwe/Jozini after 16h00, there will be insufficient time to reach the park gate and the only option is to turn back and arrange alternative accommodation for the night. For Pongola please contact the White Elephant Lodge (Tel: 034 413 2489), for Hluhluwe the Protea Hotel Hluhluwe & Safaris (Tel: 035 562 4000) and for Jozini the Jozini Tiger Lodge (Tel: 035 572 1020). Please note that the vehicle at the Coastal Cashews pick-up point will wait for approximately 15 minutes. If the camp has not been contacted regarding a late arrival, the camp vehicle will depart.
